Excellent post. Some nice, chunky designs there.

      Excellent post.

      Isn't it just?

  • +3

Momentum has a good reputation in this price bracket.

    Excellent post OP.

  • WatchNerd, nerding since 2011.

  • +1

Thankyou. Never have to check your recommendations for a deal (unlike most of mine). I bought a steelix black - very nice :)

    • +1

No worries, I like the date window on those because you can still figure out the date if one of the hands is on 3 o'clock.
I hope you remembered 10% Cashrewards.

      • +1

Yes, I liked the date window too. No; I'll haven't joined cashrewards yet; 10% is worthwhile

  • What is the appeal of a watch that goes to 200m?

    • +1

these don't actually go down to 200m. I think you can snorkel with them, or maybe normal scuba - usually around 30m.

  • +1

I've had a Momentum 1M-SP74B7G Steelix Green for ~ a year now. The brushed finish is attractive, the hands and numerals clear and distinct, and the lume isn't too shabby at all.
It's already 15 seconds slow, but other than that…

    • +1

Because of the 2 "nerds", I have a little collection of watches now. I have to reset them at the end of non 31 day months; any small discrepancies in correct time get fixed. It's really amazing how accurate watches are. I think quartz watches are amazing; that they keep time using the frequency from a quartz crystal, and they can be made so cheaply and mass produced.

"200 Meter Tested". Meaningless nonsense. Don't be fooled into thinking this cheap watch is certified ISO 6425 [divers watch standard] and definitely don't use it for diving.

    • -1

Momentum Watches has specialized in high quality, legible, dive watches for over 35 years. Each watch is assembled by hand and waterproof tested to specification before leaving our facility.

      • -6

You obviously don't understand what ISO 6425 certified means or its relevance to a 'divers watch'. Probably best that you not mislead people.

        • +1

          "200 Meter Tested". Meaningless nonsense.

Do you have evidence that Momentum don't actually test their watches? Not trying to be rude but you have just made your 9th comment on here so it's probably best to back up your statement with some kind of proof.

Nobody is claiming that these watches are ISO 6425 certified. Just because they are called "Dive Watches" doesn't automatically mean they should have that certification.

The term "Dive Watches" is commonly used in the watch industry and on watch forum websites to describe a style of watch. Watchuseek even have a whole themed forum devoted to Dive Watches.
Maybe you should tell everyone on there they are wrong.

          • -5

@WatchNerd: The onus of proof is on you. I'm not disseminating the claims made by a company selling $99 watches. If the process of testing each individual watch is a simple matter then all watch companies who churn out cheap 'divers watches' would do it and make the same claim. So please, offer the good people who are considering spending their money on this watch some proof that this company conducts comprehensive and meaningful 200+m depth tests on every divers watch they sell and then offer them an explanation why they are not ISO 6425 certified.

            • +4

@[Deactivated]: The onus of proof is not on me at all. I'm just an Ozbargainer who likes watches, so I can say whatever I want in my deal descriptions.

If I say something that's wrong then members are entitled to call me out in the comments as you have done, then other members will work out who is right or wrong by voting on those comments I guess. You can also report me to the moderators.

              • -5

@WatchNerd: So you're comfortable cutting and pasting misleading nonsense from a company because you didn't write the misleading nonsense. Got it.

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: OP is neither vendor nor Associated and he quoted the Manufacturer's website.

              Your statement that it's …

              Meaningless nonsense.

… remains unsubstantiated and the onus of proof for that remark is solely yours.

A 100M rated watch with a screw-down crown is well suited for almost any water sports or diving. We actually test our higher rated watches to the stated depths, so to withstand the pressure, a 500M rated watch needs thicker, stronger case walls, a thicker, stronger case back and a thicker crystal (glass). This means that higher-rated watches have a heavier construction and will withstand really hard knocks and impacts better , BUT they are also thicker and heavier on the wrist. So, if you are really tough on your watch, a higher rating is recommended; but for normal underwater use, a 100M or 200M rated watch will be easily up to the job.

The crown must be fully screwed down before immersion, and no buttons may be pushed underwater.

The onus of proof is on you.

              WTF.

That's what the manufacturer's spec sheet is for. Momentum never mentioned they are ISO certified. Plenty of watches well over 200m WR don't claim to be ISO because 99% of people don't care. If Momentum lied, they wouldn't still exist today.

Perhap's WatchNerd should buy one (although I'm sure he already has) and test it - in his secret underwater lair.

              • -5

@ilikeit: 99% of people. Did you just make that up? That would be a lie then and no one cares. Some will even upvote your lie if it serves their position. See how lying works? It's fairly easy.

@[Deactivated]: As a new member to this site, you definitely aren't endearing yourself to the community.

It's obvious you are passionate about watches or horology or whatever…but so are many here. Of course, we are able to dodge and weave the false claims and exaggerations (mostly Chinese mushroom brands) and see through their lies. I suggest you chill and not get caught up in semantics.

I'll bow out now. I'm off to polish my 'Perlative Ceronometer.'

                  • -2

@ilikeit: If perpetuating obvious false claims from a manufacturer or not questioning them when I see them is 'endearing myself to the community' I'll pass, thanks.

                  @[Deactivated]:

99% of people. Did you just make that up?

OzBargain's 217,259 users awarded this deal 1,068 clicks and only you complained about ISO 6425. What percentage do you make that?

        • +3

You are incorrect; I definitely comprehend ISO 6425 certification and neither OP nor I have mentioned it. Quoting the manufacturer's website is not misleading.

          • +3

@PJC: As always in the world, its caveat emptor.

The hill I would die on doesnt include $99 microbrands.

If ISO certification is so important to some people then buy a Seiko Padi.

Its not the job of anyone here to pump up or disprove a manufacturer.

Just a heads up - the 10% Cashrewards ends tonight & will revert back to 6%.

    Awesome, thank you!

My momentum steelix arrived today. Beautiful watch. It has the best screw down crown of all my watches (it actually screws quite a way). I can read the date easily (can't on the others). Nato strap, which I like better than the various other straps I have (and if you lose a strap pin the watch still stays attached). And the crown is properly protected by the watch frame. It's my favorite watch out of five now :)

    • By the power vested in me it is my solemn duty to hereby absolve you of all blame and any residual guilt concerning the essential acquisition of this premium exquisite horological masterpiece.
