iPhone X 64GB $739 on $65 Plan (24 Mths, 45GB) @ JB Hi-Fi

101

Was looking for a iPhone X for a colleague when I came across this Whistleout article.

$65 Mobile BYO Plan (24 months) – Unlimited talk and text, 45GB data (40GB + 5GB bonus) and $500 Phone Credit towards outright phone purchase (where the full phone price is $999 or more).

Basically getting an extra $240 off towards the iPhone X.

From today until September 30, JB Hi-Fi is also offering $740 off the iPhone X 64GB (currently selling at JB Hi-Fi for $1,479) when you choose the $65 BYO plan. If you're in the market for an iPhone X, this may be your last chance to buy it from JB Hi-Fi, as the model has been discontinued by Apple in the wake of the iPhone XS launch earlier this month.

If you have your current mobile service with Belong and Boost Mobile (both Telstra MVNOs) you're also eligible to upgrade to the JB Hi-Fi exclusive Telstra plans. If you choose the $65 plan you'll get the $300 credit offer towards the purchase of your phone. But unfortunately Boost and Belong customers can't get the $200 gift card or the $500 phone credit offer with either plan. Bummer!

However, the JB Hi-Fi plans represent a reasonable saving for anyone who's been considering a BYO mobile plan with Telstra. The plans are $4 cheaper per month with an extra 5GB more than corresponding BYO phone plans sold through Telstra. However, Telstra's $89 BYO mobile plan with 60GB of full-speed data plus unlimited "peace of mind" data (capped at speeds of 1.5Mbps) is currently not available through JB Hi-Fi. Check out full details of Telstra's current BYO phone plans below.

Minimum cost $2299, for anyone wondering.

Wow for a year old phone with inferior camera to even ip8 and new ipxs, paying that much is crazy talk

      • +2

are u sure? I have all of them and ip8 camera is not on par with x, xs and xs max graphics power is not … as strong as the x FYI

        • +1

          I have all of them?

        • Many reviews and comparisons note this about the ipx. Many improvements for the xs over the X so not worth talking about. Just saying that if camera is important to you just take that into consideration, especially if you are upgrading from 8.

      • Pretty sure the iPhone 8 have inferior cameras than the X.

        • -1

No they don't. I was pretty surprised. Many comparisons online.

          • @onlinepred: I tried looking but can only find comparisons between the Plus model and the X. Even then X came on top.

Care to share where you read it from?

So just to reword the deal.
The deal is $95 a month for an Iphone X 64gb with 45GB a month on Telstra.
But you pay for half the handset up front for $739 to bring the monthly repayments to $65.

  • +13

    $65 x 24 = $1560 + $739 (iphone X) = $2299

Saw iphone X for $1299 outright on ozbargain recently https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/404250

So if you take total $2299 - $1299 = $1000 then divide 24 months = $41.66 you can use for a byo plan? or go with a cheaper month by month or 12 month plan

  • If you were travelling overseas in 60 days time, how much GST could you claim at the border?

I assume it's the GST applicable on the $1479 phone?

    • -1

I don’t think that will work the way you want it to.

Customs need to see a receipt showing the gst on the transaction. Bit hard to do that with a monthly contract (unless you buy the handset outright).

You will then have to pay back some/all of the GST refund when you return with the phone to Australia.

      • I thought you enter into the Telstra contract for the per month paymnet and they give you $500 gift card to go buy phone?

Therefore you walk out of store with fully paid off phone with GST recipet of $1499?

      • It should work because you are buying the phone. If it follows previous deal the phone should scan as $1,479, and then they apply store voucher of $740 to bring it down to $739.

Monthly contract is for the service plan and not for the phone payment.

        • It does work, I did this deal with S9+ in July, the receipt shows full retail price and you get the GST back on full retail price.

          • @Nalar: But you’ll still need to declare the phone when you come back into the country, no?

            • @YellowDieselGolf: no, TRS is designed for product that aren't coming back. Mine was gift for Sister in law

  • Not really worth it to be locked into a $65 BYO for 24 months

  • +16

Still almost $100 a month. Not worth it for a year old phone o a lock-in contract, sorry.

    • -1

Can you provide a better deal for this phone? And you can't reference lease contracts

  • +2

Outdated phone + pricey plan. No, thanks!

  • Wow so we're heading for mobile phone planes like in US, pay cash advance and stuck for 2 years on a terrible and expensive plan, or even worse leasing it :///

  • +1

I feel title is not clear enough.
    739$ + 65$(per month for 24 months) iPhone X(64 GB)

    • Yeah that is more correct I think
You enter into $65 month contact for 24 months as to get $500 off the phone immediately.

  • With the noted reception problems of the Xs I think the X will be highly sought after for a while. If I were not already with Telstra I think I'd jump on this and sell the X to bring the costs down to $41.66 as per stridingcloud12. I have a 10% alumni discount so it'd be about $35ish for 45GB with Telstra. Pretty damn good.

If you've got a way to talk JBHIFI into some other kind of plan discount or Telstra into a % off this could be the perfect storm for quite a few people out there. Makes me think I should port away from Telstra for a while so I don't miss the next opportunity for something like this.

I was lucky enough to swap the google phone for an IPhonex via gumtree when the F&F $59 deal was on. Bloody ripper !
