How Many People Are Interested in Watching The News Involving The English Royal Family ?

Just wanted to get a feel of other peoples opinion of the non stop bombardment of news about the Royal family

I am personally not a bit interested and flick the channel immediately as my BP goes up the moment I see anyone from the Royal family,

I do not see them making any contribution to anyone's life

Not interested even in the slightest.

    • +13

Neither am I interested in Rugby League.

Which is why I read the news rather than watch it. Who even watches live TV now that there are excellent ad-free alternatives?

      • +2

Out of interest what are the good ad free alternatives? I assume you are talking about news websites but be buggered if I can find one nowadays that isn't riddled with clickbait, ads or those F$%ked up sponsored links masquerading as stories.

  • +4

I'm interested in seeing a poll up.

  • +1

    Which Royals? British/Sudanese/Austrian?

    • +27

      Nigerian.

    • +1

Sudan and Austria don't have any.
There are plenty of countries that do, why choose ones who don't?

      • +13

Unbeknownst to you, I am both the Archduke of Austria and Sultan of Sudan.

Good sir, I request your urgent assistance in shipping gold to pay for the construction of an orphanage in Sudan.

  • +7

It is of interest to me, but most of that supposed 'news' on the commercial stations is not actual news, which is more annoying to me.

The social initiatives / charities that are supported by the visit are worthy IMO.

    • +7

Yep not too keen on gossip articles but I enjoy reading about their charitable work as they bring awareness.

For eg the recent cookbook launch by Duchess of Sussex. To some it may be just a cookbook with recipes from various cultures.

However, it is an opportunity for her to use her position in society/media to bring awareness to the survivors of the Grenfell tower block fire. There is a story behind each recipe/family and the proceeds will provide funding for a community that has suffered a terrible tragedy.

It's definitely making a difference, not only to someone's life but for a whole community.

      • Grenfell tower block fire awareness?
That place was a den of fraudulent sub letting, illegal immigrants and many questions remain about the start of the fire. The criminals convicted of post fire fraud total 10 or 11 so far with a total fraud bill to date of a lazy -£486k, with more to come.

        Abdelkarim Rekaya-£88,183.70
        Yonatan Eyob-£86,831.56
        Elaine Douglas-£67,125.35
        Jenny McDonagh-£62,000
        Tommy Brooks-£58,396.89
        Antonio Gouveia-£53,456.76
        Derrick Peters-£38,784
        Joyce Msokeri-£19,000
        An Nguyen-£11,270
        Mohammad Ali Gamoota-£1,784

        But yeah cookbook.

        • +7

I stated - SURVIVORS of the Grenfell tower block fire.

The criminals you listed should be punished and they probably didn't stay at Grenfell Tower, a social housing complex.

72 people died and this includes a stillborn, a 6mth old baby and many children. Innocent lives were lost and it doesn't matter whether they are illegal immigrants or living there because of fraudulent subletting. The fact is that people died and numerous families are affected.

We can't change the world overnight and there's way too much negativity in society. If a cookbook is going to bring some love, hope and compassion and provide funding for a community kitchen, then it is definitely a worthy cause IMO.

        • +5

The real villians are the people who put the cladding on the building when it was completely unsuitable. The people you listed are a drop in the ocean compared to the millions ripped off by people who try to save a few bucks by putting up fire traps. Illegal subletting is not what caused the fire nor what caused it to burn quickly out of control.

However, I do think a cookbook is a tad "insensitive" to commemorate a bunch of people who burned to death. A bit like the Harold Holt memorial swimming pool.

          • +1

            @try2bhelpful:

A bit like the Harold Holt memorial swimming pool.

            Fake news!

More like the Harold Holt submarine sandwich shop.

          • +1

@try2bhelpful: Abdelkarim Rekaya (http://www.thejournal.ie/man-grenfell-tower-fraud-guilty-424…) - just a despicable criminal claiming to be a victim of the fire and claimed £88,183.70 in hotel accommodation and financial support.

A few women were looking for a place to cook for their families after the fire as their flats were destroyed. The Hubb Community Kitchen is where they get to cook for the community and it gives them a place to grieve and support one another. The cookbook shares their recipes and stories and raise funds for the community kitchen.

            • @littleburrito: The real despicable criminals are the ones who put the cladding on the building. I don’t agree with what this guy has done but there are more important people tp prosecute and bigger issues to deal with, including in Melbourne where unsuitable cladding has also been used.

Every fortnight the Queen deposits money into my bank account [my pay] for services rendered.

    Do not upset the queen

  • +5

    You watch T.V?

  • +3

Oh, look. The Royal's throwing a ball. NOT newsworthy.

  • +9

I am personally not a bit interested and flick the channel immediately

I think I found your problem - you still watch what's on the telly.

  • +7

not nearly as annoying as wannabe celebrities from trashy reality TV shows, and tabloids reporting on them as is they are the biggest celebrity in town… contestants from married at first sight come to mind as well as the block, bachelor, bachelorette, bachelor in paradise.

  • I can’t seem to click “No” on the poll option…

    • +5

Oh, nope, turns out I can only click it once…

  • +1

Im not interested in posts asking me how interested i am

    • Please indicate how interested you are in participating in future interest based surveys by marking a line across the line spanning from Not at all interested to Extremely interested:

Not at all interested |——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————| Extremely interested

      • i should change my opinion and say im always waiting for queen betty to say something horribly racist or homophobic officially. She's got it in her, its an elderly woman adored in treasures thing to do

        • +1

I'd love it. I mean, if the bloody Queen of England says it, it can't possibly be political incorrect anymore and we can finally get over this over-sensitive outrage culture epidemic.

          • +2

@HighAndDry: I wonder if she wipes from the front or back. Hopefully I'll get over there to ask before she croaks.

      • Slider does not work. Just FYI.

        • Oh it works, I think the slider is just at the far "Not at all interested" end, so it's hard to tell from the edge on that side, and it couldn't possibly need moving so I think it works fine.

        • -1

Slider does not work. Just FYI.

Have you tried printing it out?

  • +1

I don't watch the news. Don't have time to be wasting my time like that.

    • +2

      Amen brother.

It holds a drug like effect on many of it's consumers and leaves the viewer misinformed about the world.

      • Amen sister.

  • +3

    None.

I was so happy that Markle left Suits.

Hopefully we will much more of the better character Katrina Bennett.

    • Me not understand you.

    • +1

Just wish Donna would leave now.

They are simply more grist for the global gossip machine, if they weren't filthy rich and over powerful I would have more sympathy for them. All you can do is stop giving your money to gossip-merchants in the hope that they will go broke. That goes for ALL gossip and not just that involving the royals. Money and fame does not make anyone more interesting or worth wasting my time reading about.

  • Who are they anyway ?

  • I DGAF about the royals, half of the people who do are prob associated with charities funded by said royals, (or benefiting in some way) and half are old timers who still revered their "Queen, Prince and Princesses"

  • +2

What pisses me off is the ABC does large amounts of coverage.

Taxpayer dollars being spent on gossiping as if paying for flying the pigs out here for morons to flock to wasn't bad enough use of my money.

Every time someone brings up the homeless there's this amazing "HOW WILL WE PAY THAT ARE YOU INSANE? HOUSING THE HOMELESS??" and yet nothing is said about spending half a billion dollars on flying pigs out here.

    • +5

bad enough use of my money.

do you actually pay significant amount of income tax lel
you do realise some people are homeless because its very difficult to assist them, they have issues that makes them hostile, unstable, or some other factors
you cant solve this problem by just throwing money at it and putting people in free houses (and have them thrashing said house and annoying/stealing from the neighbours). Its never that simple. Real life Australia isn't the fairytale utopian society people are taught to believe during their formative years.

  • Can we put the age break down on people who answer Yes :)

  • (profanity) no

  • +1

only when Phil says something stupid.

  • +2

    YES

Only if they are in bikinis.

    • +1

you want to see a ninety-two year old woman in a bikini
      username checks out

  • It's well scripted and acted. When is the next season being released?

    • when they pump out another tax-sucking baby. they've had 3 babies seasons so far right?

  • +3

They are just a waste of space

  • Your blood pressure goes up when you see Megan Markle?

    • +5

Which head are you talking about?

  • They do more than politicians lul, I don't mind.

  • I am interested in this next wedding coming up on Friday because I know some people who are involved. But I was never interested in the other ones.

You're probably watching too much stuff from the US, they've become very interested lately because an American is in the family now.

  • +1

    Just leave them alone.

  • +5

Sports, politics and the life of the royal family are a bore fest on the news. My mind actually tunes out during these segments. I am much more interested in the crime news - car accidents, fires, carjackings, robberies, assaults, etc.

  • +1

I'm interested. But I change the channel when anything NRL or AFL related is on as I have no interest in them. Thankfully most of my TV is recorded and I can zip through the bits I don't want to watch.

  • +1

This is a very good question posed by the OP because I would like to know why the Australian media is obsessed by what happens in the UK even to the extent of having a daily report from London, which mainly consists of just a load of trivia.

Important events I can understand but the extent to which the Australian media goes too beggars belief reporting as it does on events that UK TV doesn't consider newsworthy.

    • The same reason catchy but poorly written songs are on the radio - lots of people actually like them. Consumers should share the blame.

    • The media is trying brainwash us like propaganda

      • I don't happen to think that attempts to brainwash stops solely with the media.

  • The Crown is one of the best shows on TV at the moment. But as for what brand of dress Megan is wearing - no thanks

  • feck no. i switched channel no more than 2seconds after i realise its the royals. fortunately i dun watch tv news much

  • +1

An irrelevant, occulted power that is fast crumbling.

  • +2

I'd gladly never hear anything about them ever again.

  • +1

I do not see them making any contribution to anyone's life

You could argue that actors, athletes, musicians, etc don't contribute to people's lives other than entertainment.
If people find the Royal Family interesting, well I don't find it any worse than people idolising any of the above.

  • Irrelevant to me so does reality shows

  • +4

I am personally not a bit interested and flick the channel immediately as my BP goes up the moment I see anyone from the Royal family,

There is your problem. Stop watching the news. Seriously. I uninstalled all of the news apps from my phone and stopped visiting news sites about 6 months ago and I cannot exaggerate how much better I feel. Don't fall for the old "but you need to stay informed" line, the news exists to either outrage or terrify you, they make money off of you having an emotional reaction - usually negative - so just stop participating.

  • so you would prefer President Scomo instead

  • +1

You're asking the question on the wrong platform. There's plenty of people who find this interesting and care about it, just like there are people who follow celebrities and music artists. Its just one of the many different ways people entertain their lives.

Ask those same people if they're interested in bargains on rechargeable batteries and sensor lights. They'll thing you're the weird one wasting your life.

  • +1

Who watches tv nowadays? Last time I watched TV it was when Barnaby Joyce resigned.

  • I haven't owned a tv in years. I assume I would have heard if the queen was dead. I know there's been some weddings and babies but couldn't name them.

  • When will Harry and Meghan make it into ColourTube?

  • +1

The media is just really sick and they trying brainwash us into worshipping people who got historically rich by sipping cups of teas while they had there soldiers out stealing from foriegn countries. Sort of like propaganda

  • I dont mind but certainly do not agree with invasion of privacy they do on others…
i think majourity of last generation or before that are still interested to know about RF. I dont see a reason why it would make someone so mad about it though…

  • I literally do not have a TV so I don't have to hear anything about anyone. My entertainment is hobbies and also flicking through this forum occasionally as it forms a good cross section of middle class australia and contains a variety of perspectives and varying degrees of shit talk to read through.

  • Watching The News Involving The English Royal Family

What's wrong with "Keeping Up with the Kardashians"?

    • if only the royal princesses have same 'asset' sizes as Kim, eh?

  • Meghan closed a car door, recently. Impressive. No?
    www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-45650976/meghan-closes-a-car-door

Do you not want Harry and Meghan to one day visit Christchurch, OP?
    Harsh.

In other Royal News - pursuant to pyramid, by way of Baysew and blaircam, this, and the emails, certainly lead me to worry about the location and wellbeing of the Nigerian Royals.
    Philanthropic Angels. :(

  • During Meghan and Harry's wedding a friend of mine was so much obsessed with it that she did not leave the BBC channel watching the broadcast. I honestly was quite frustrated. Good for them they got married, let them be happy, go home and do whatever they want to.
