First Rave- Rave Gear What to Wear - Need Honest Advice

Hi guys!

Looking to attend my first rave next month! I don't know what I should wear, what I have in mind is a white shirt, black shorts and black free runs.

Does anyone have any experience on what I should wear for a first timer? What should I expect from my first event?

Thanks all

    Wear clothes. Expect drugs.

      Wear nothing. expect police.

I don't think they will play "Roxanne" at a rave

        • +1

They are now playing Baby Shark in clubs, so expect everything…

          • @kickling: Had a chuckle at that… The ages they are attending these days might as well speed up hot potato and they can dance to that

            • @Archi: If I had to choose one it would defo be Hot Potato!

    • Wear clothes

I'm not sure you've seen what kids are wearing (or not wearing) to raves these days.

Expect to be surrounded by drug affected numbskulls?

    • +1

If the people around you look like numbskulls, then you haven't had enough of the good stuff :p

  • Empty plastic container for water. A few wads of toilet paper. Opal card. Cap.

Anything featured in this video will see you right.

    • LOL was hoping someone would post this!

I was kind of hoping for this one but I thoroughly enjoyed yours.

    • There is a lot of drugs in that video

  • Phat pants

  • A chastity belt - whether you are a male or female

  • Choose Life t-shirt

    • Takes me back. What about Frankie?

What you are thinking of sounds good. Make sure it is comfy, it gets hot and sweaty if you are all dancing together and you need the freedom to move and dance. I would also recommend not wearing your best clothes cuz they kind of get ruined. I had a nice shirt stretched out to oblivion. If it goes into the night 100% bring a jacket for later. You get really hot at the rave, then unbelievably cold after.
Depends on your friends group but I think most people/raves are just there for a sweet fun time and aren’t gunna judge harshly, if that is what you are worried about.
If you have more q’s feel free to PM or comment. Have fun OP!

  • Try get an out pass, tell them your friend has your phone, you need to ring it, Where's the nearest phone box. Give the phone to your friend just incase they check. Don't take the risk or go real late which u miss half the fun. Enjoy.

High-cut aesthetic shorts and a sleeve tattoo.

Wear running shorts or short swimshorts, you're going to get wet. Wear a g-string or no undies unless you enjoy wedgies. Bring a cheap jacket and track pants from Kmart, you might lose them so better take ones you're not attached to. You don't really need a top but you could wear a tank if you're self-conscious.

Wear trainers in any colour but white, because they won't be white in the morning.

Optionally bring: A water bottle, earplugs, sunnies, a mask, hair extensions, candy, beads, ribbons, stickers, zinc sticks, leg warmers, wrist bands, glow sticks, whiz fizz, Vicks inhalers, sweet and sour lollipops, gum, a toothbrush, a bumbag and a good attitude.

  • Glow sticks and Vuvuzela. But seriously it depends on type of music, day vs night, indoor/outdoor, weather conditions and whether you're a boy or girl. Some people really dress up in all sorts of stuff but just go in shorts and t shirt.

Please make every second drink water!

    • +1

Actually you can drink too much water. 500ml per hour should be enough even if it's a sweatbox.

  • @OP - what rave are you attending?

You can pretty much wear whatever you like, unless your going for a specific look.

If it's at a licensed club, unless you know the security / bouncers, you'll want to stick to the documented dress code.

If it's a festival / less structured gig, you can probably wear whatever you like, but may need to comply with "restricted entry items", as listed on documents like this - https://www.electricgardens.com.au/terms-conditions-entry/

And lastly, if you want to be internet famous whilst your gurning off your head, dress like the guys in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzP1XC51kro&t=21s

many variables to deciding - as Drj55 pointed out as depending on where it is and, kind of music could make a difference to your end decision. Try find out as much info you can about location / time of day and potential variables (weather) to make an informed decision.
michelle181 summed it up perfectly as I too wouldn't immediately suggest wearing clothes you are super fond of as they will tend to get trashed. btw wearing a white tshirt you will be glowing when the black light/neons hit so keep that in mind if you want to stand out and be spun out over your shirt ;)
my 2c is ultimately dress comfortably in what makes you feel your best :) i.e. you see the end product of your choice and you feel as awesome as you look ;) As if its a true rave a large percentage of the other punters there wont care what anyone else is wearing as they are there to rave and be free as its not a fashion parade. so if people are standing around judging - they truly don't understand PLUR and should go back to their respective nightclubs
Way back when if we didn't make our own clothes or be wearing a tee of the DJ or record label we would end up with sports tees (e.g drifit/climacool or similar [they all the same pretty much]) as with all the dancing and sweating sports tops tend to breathe better than cotton - easier to clean too imo
When it comes to what to expect; honestly expect the unexpected. As mentioned if this is a rave to rave people are just going to be going for it and letting loose so be prepared to see stuff you may not have before so keep your mind & opinions open as one persons normal is another persons shocked.. Either way, be safe, keep hydrated [water] and always keep an eye out for your friends and your group. Enjoy!

This is a video of my girlfriend (at the time) Samantha singing a typical Old Skool rave song in 1990 in London.
The guys dancing with her are wearing typical rave gear of the time.

    • Your girlfriend was hot ;)

    • Your girlfriend was Saffron??

  • Dupe

  • Wear your school uniform, and you won't need to change next morning.

  • Do a Google search for "techno viking" and watch his video for how to dance. You'll be right.
