Hi Frugal Folks of OB,

Had been waiting for the release of the Lenovo Smart Display one for a while. Google Assistant's first device with a display.

Lenovo's website currently displays a banner for pre-order which appears when you click the [SHOP NOW] tab advertising a BONUS Google Home Mini.

Banner says While stocks last and it doesn't appear that you need to apply any code - "Google mini will be delivered separate from the Smart Display. An email confirmation will be sent with details of the Google Mini Delivery"

Pre-orders to be dispatched on Oct 19th.

Presumably the standard 4% off via Cash rewards with Lenovo also applies.

  Google Home Hub to be announced tonight. Better option if you want more frequent updates, being pure Google.

      Announced at $219 retail AU. No camera as expected. With a 20% off ebay Good Guys might pick one up.

      What i really want to know are what are the differences in usability and function. software the same?

  Agree it's pretty sketch that google suddenly decides uses a new OS for their own device that essentially does the same thing, but pleased to see at least that there is/was a commitment to update the software used for this and all Android Things devices for at least the next three years.

  For others' reference, I had pulled the trigger on this deal on the date of post and promptly gotten for order of the Smart Display but still not yet the Google Home Mini. Cashrewards also came through but there was a pretty heavy typo on the amount of the purchase and cash back to come :P

        Haha, i mean they charge you the correct amount (which they will if they Lenovo email says so), but CR still sends through that much Cashback. Of course they won't cos they are reading this thread right now spying on us and our shopping habits to sell to the Russian mafia.
