Great for all the Kogan 32GB 30 Day Prepaid Mobile Voucher.

    Unlocked?

    • +2 votes

Most likely locked to Vodafone. According to this comment, the Pocket Wifi is unlocked, but requires you to change some settings.

Works with Kogan SIM, since it runs on Vodafone Network.

I can confirm these are unlocked I have 3 and have used a range of data sims here and o/s.

Any point using these instead of portable hotspot on your phone? Am I missing something?

    • +1 vote

Chewing through phone battery is one but also the fact that if you go out of rangs you lose WiFi connectivity which is problematic for work use. For casual or ad hoc use tethering is absolute fine.

      •

Grab a xiaomi repeater, enough coverage for a small-medium house.

if you go out of rangs you lose WiFi connectivity which is problematic for work use

        Can you please clarify?

        •

Oh, I think it means - if you lose pocket wifi range, then the pocket wifi switches off and you can't reconnect until you switch the pocket wifi back on. Right?

Still doesn't make sense. You carry it. Or you don't go out of range if it's important work.

          •

@pizzaguy: I mean more along the lines of - if you take your phone with you somewhere that is out of range from your laptop, your laptop will lose connectivity and need to re-connect and apps will need to establish connection again.

A pocket wi-fi can be left with your phone if you are going to lunch, bathroom or just roaming around the office. Those who are in this scenario know that tethering can be a pain, and those who don't needn't worry :)

    Just the right time, thanks

How does this work? Does it require a sim card?

    • +1 vote

      yes, takes a sim card.
works like when you hotspot your phone.

    • +1 vote

Your own private hotspot; each comes with a wifi code you must enter in amy device that wants to use the data. (Usually only have to enter wifi code once unless you do a master reset on connected devices). Yes, it needs an activated sim card. Portable. Has an internal battery that will run down if not recharged. Can also charge it using usb charger in car or laptop etc.

Anyone using one of these with a ROOter system?

    • +1 vote

I use a different modem with a router with Rooter installed, fairly easy plug and play. This one should be no different. My modem takes all sims and get a okay signal at my place for all of them, and my internet costs have been quite cheap for a long while.

Thanks for the feedback, my prob is the R216 does not identify as a network device via USB. weird as people seem to have success using them this way.

  •

Will it work with Optus Sim?

    •

      Vodafone says they are unlocked.

Yep, but doesn't have band 28 (700mhz) so might not be A1 coverage but works well on Optus where I am. Works with Telstra, too, but the lack of band 28 might be more problematic, depending on the towers you connect to.

  •

Any experience with using the pocket wifi device overseas? Looking for something to use when travelling and from a quick search $29 for 4G capable seems not bad.

  •

Anyone know what model number this is?

Anyone know if I can connect it to router using USB port and use the SIMs 4G date? Thanks.

    •

yes, hook it on your computer and install the program that comes with it, done.

      •

Can you explain further how to set it up please? Sorry complete noob here but interested to know how to do it as a home internet alternative. Thanks in advance!

  • +2 votes

So tempting but can't justify this against 49 cents for 32gb data. Any way to get just the device without the data and cheaper? Want.

  •

Anyone know if it has b28?

  • +1 vote

I drove around and got one on my third store. I can't wait to test it out

  •

    Unavailable in my local store.

  •

it is possible to connect this to a home DVR system so i can view my cctv remotely?

    • +2 votes

I suggest you ask this question on a forum for your CCTV system.
Can you view your CCTVs from your local network?
Can you port forward the appropriate ports in the internet router to be able to connect to your CCTV server remotely?

If the answer to both of the above questions is 'yes', then I would expect you would be able to view the CCTV from your mobile phone.

This gives device gives you mobile phone data, shared over wifi.

FYI, just checked North Sydney Coles - at least 4 in stock.

Drove to 3 stores and called over 10. All out of stock and everyone's too busy… Not much luck here in Victoria.
(ie. Clayton, oakeleigh, pinewood, burwood, glen, Brandon park, forrest hill, Vermont, spring vale…)

Both Adelaide CBD stores (Rundle Mall and Grote St) ran out. Will update if I find one elsewhere…

  •

Bugger. Got the pocket wifi but the Kogan $1 voucher has sold out

  •

Mango Hill, QLD still has stock

  •

Got one of those, and seems only works on vofa sim, tried optus card and showing disconnected… Anyone know how to change the setting or unlock?

Login to settings via the Pocket Wifi mobile app (or 192.168.0.1 in a browser on your computer) - password admin. Under Mobile Broadband > Connection > Account type choose Custom. Set APN: connect and put *99# for mobile number, then save. For Telstra, APN: telstra.internet
