Difference between the 3020 and the 3020i's?

  • +1

These are good speakers, I have them and vouch for them.
Little sad, I paid $399 for pair.

    • +12

Grab two more pairs @ $299 and you'll have paid on average $332/pr šŸ‘

      • I do need two more of these, just moved into new house and have a dedicated theatre room. But between buying the first pair and getting a new house, I now have a baby. So, these will have to wait. :(

        • +4

Quality Speakers -> Baby -> House

          'Priorities' achievement unlocked!

        • That is a great point thats been raised regarding price! If you do wait though, theres no guarantee that there will be the stock available, and it the colour you prefer. The sale is only on for 3 days or while stocks last so if you want them, now is the time to buy :)

  • What amp would suit?

    • +1

If you're after a stereo amplifier, we can recommend the AMC XIA30 or the AMC XIA50 stereo amplifier.
Otherwise we also have the Myryad Z240 amp at a really great price for only $399- 50W per channel and drives these speakers really smoothly. We have this set up with these speakers for demo in our Preston showroom.
Recommended power to these speakers is 25W to 75W :)

      • If I want to connect it to a HDMI source (TV or BluRay player) I will need more equipment?

        • If you're connecting a HDMI source then you'll probably need a receiver, unless you connect with RCA if your devices have that connection. We have the Onkyo TX-NR555 at $599 which is a great price for that unit. What type of set up have you got? Is it surround or stereo only?

      • +1

$650 delivered as a packaged deal sounds awesome

        • Unfortunately we cant go any lower on price. The Myryad amplifier RRP is $1199 and it's been reduced quite heavily. But $698 with free delivery is still a fantastic price for the amp and speakers!

        • Onkyo TX-NR555 is $565.25 delivered on eBay.

          • @Dave Id: Thanks but not looking at AV receivers.

  • I've got a Yamaha HTR-2071. Will these be considered upgrades for the surround and front speakers?

    • What are the current speakers that you have hooked up to this amp?

      • I should have been more specific. I have got the YHT-1840

        • The 3020 speakers have a bigger driver and higher sensitivity level so you should get more volume when playing both at the same level. I'd say its an upgrade. It's an award-winning speaker so you cant go wrong :)

          • @FunkyDan: Sounds good. The terminals look different though. Do I just need to change the terminals?

            • @dorian_gray: No need to change the terminals. Just hook up bare speaker cable to these by unscrewing the back of the terminal and place the speaker cable in through the side and screw it back on. Very easy to connect :)

              • @FunkyDan: I'm thinking of buying two pairs. Can you throw in some wall mounts because it seems they can't go on my wall (with nails)?

  • wow, these are tiny

    • Yes, they may be small in size but for the price and the quality of sound they should be worth more than what they're selling for :)

  • Is there a good way to hook these up to a smart device eg Echo Dot without an amp?

    • No. They're passive speakers.

      • Is there a good way

        • +1

          without an amp

    • No unfortunately they're a passive speaker.
You can wire them to a streaming amplifier if you want to be able to stream to them wirelessly (we have the iEAST AM160 or the iEAST soundstream Pro if you already have an amp) but cant get them to work without an amplifier

  • any deal for 2010i stand please?

    • We don't have any of these stands available unfortunately.

  • +1

Would these be good as side and rear surround sound speakers connected to a Pioneer VSX932?

    • +1

I don't have these but I'm running similar speakers (Tangent Evo E4 on stands) in side surround mode.

They are powered by a Pioneer SC-LX73 and they sound fine even though they're not tonally matched to the LCRs up front.

    • These speakers are great for surround and side speakers. Depending on your LCR speakers though, as iwearpants mentioned they may not match tonally.
But yes, they;re definitely a great speaker for what you're after.

      • Thanks rep, I've sent you a PM.

  • +1

Bought :) been eyeing up the 3020is but happy at this price

  • Silly question, but does it have 3.5mm jack to input from my computer? T.T

Been interested in the audioengine, but look like this is a better choice

    • +1

No, these are speakers only. You'll need something to power them.

  • I guess these are rear ported. You couldn't angle these to use as Atmos speakers?

    • They are rear ported speakers. Ideally you wouldnt be using these as atmos speakers. If you're able to do in-ceiling speakers, we have the Q Acoustics Qi65c in-ceiling speakers for only $249 a pair and you can definitely use those for atmos. We use them in most of our home theatre installations. :)

      • I can't do in-ceiling for this room unfortunately.

        • Could you do in-floor for the room above, maybe? :D

  • Would this be suitable for Karaoke system in the apartment unit? Thanks

    • +1

In an apartment I think the more important question is would your voice be suitable for karaoke? :D

    • As long as you can connect them up to an amplifier I don't see why not! :)

  • This one and Audioengine 2+, which one is better choice. I know need and amp to hook the 3020 to the computer

    • A bit of an unfair comparison as the Audioengines are an active speaker vs the 3020s which are a passive speaker. In saying that though when comparing the sound you're looking at an all in one speaker vs a proper stereo set up with the 3020s, so for sound you'd probably be better off going with the 3020s and a decent amp :)

      • you're right. I'm leaning to 3020 right now :D

Pair with this amp SMSL AD18 is a perfect choice?

        • Awesome!
Yep if you're after an amp with Bluetooth as well as the other input choices you have on that one and with 80W per channel you can't go wrong :)

        • +1

I have mine plugged into an SMSL Q5 Pro (plus a sub) and it's a fantastic combo.

          • @xdirex: Hi @xdirex,
I always wondered how do you hook up a subwoofer to these small speaker amps. Is there a separate sub out on these (like in av receivers)? Can you please explain what should I look if I am going for a small amp with subwoofer capability.

            • +1

@chimps: The SMSL Q5 Pro, and I'm almost certain the AD18 too, have a mono subwoofer line out on the back of the amp.

My Onkyo subwoofer is active (it has its own amplifier and level controls built in).

The SMSL amps a not capable of driving a passive subwoofer from this line out.

I looked around for months and believe these two to be the best choices in this category and price range. I got my Q5 Pro from TomTop for about $100, the only real difference for me being no Bluetooth (which I didn't need).

I'm really happy with it - super clean sound and better than my AVR and older dedicated stereo amp.

  • Hey Dan, how about a deal on the Q acoustic sub?

    • Hi!
We currently have the sub down to $499 ($200 off RRP) :)

  • Tossing between spending more money on these or getting cheaper Voll ( Micca MB42x ) …

    • Spending the extra money would be worth it when comaparing these to the Voll speakers. You have a larger woofer, higher sensitivity, and better frequency response. These are award-winning speakers and are definitely worth more than what you'd be paying. The only thing is that this deal has expired and they are now back to $399, however still a really great price for a pair of these.
