this has nfc and band 28 …… and the xiaomi has no band 28.

  • Any idea what variant this is? I'm after a phone to take to the UK, after something that works here and over there

  • Redmi note 3 to this would be upgrade or downgrade?

    • +1

I would say an upgrade in most specs.

  • +1

Can someone please confirm if VoLTE / WiFi Calling works on this model and (if yes) on which telco?

  • Need help please, Huawei mate 9 ($250) or Nokia 8 ($333) - both new

    • +1

Where is the mate 9 for $250?

    • Mate9 where?

    • friend is selling to me. Please help with the above question

    • +1

If Mate 9's new condition, I will get it at $250 without second thoughts as it's a previous gen flagship

    • +1

I would go for the Nokia when comparing the specs and it is newer phone.

      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8073&idPhone2…

      • For $250 I would pocket the change and get the mate 9. Also seems to support far more network bands, bigger screen . I loved my mate 7, would jump at a mate 9 for that price.

        • Bigger screen, but lower resolution. Hmmm ….

  • +6

OW did a price beat for my mum. Came to $322.05

    • +2

I'm assuming they matched it with their single-SIM stock?

    • -1

I would have given you $500 for your mum if she can cook also…

    • +1

Can I ask which OW this was? And if it's possible to upload the receipt. I just dropped my phone today and cheaper to buy a new phone at this price.

    • My local officeworks said no =(

  • +4

Price has dropped by $10 to $308 now!

    • yea must be trying to clear all stock

    • +2

Looks like my last purchase did not get through. So i tried with this price drop and added the code as well.

      Charged $317 delivered.

  • +2

It is a high end phone with top hardware at the time, but with a low price tag. Same chipset as the Samsung Galaxy S8. I've been using it for 10 months. Purchased for just under $500. I think it was cheap because Nokia was trying to lure back customers. It's their first batch of phones using Android.

Pros: Fast chipset. No lag when playing games. Does not heat up as much as other phones during intense heavy load usage.
Good screen, good resolution, nice display colour.
Nokia release new Android versions fast compare to Samsung, LG … etc
    Good value for money!

Cons: Photos taken by the phone are a bit dark. Colours are not as rich as Samsung flagships.
    Not water resistant.

I'm now buying one as spare! Probably won't buy another phone again till 5G network is widely available.

  • anyone have case/cover for this

    • Clear silicone back-case on mine, from eBay. Not bought for major drop protection, makes it a lot easier to pickup and hold.

  • How is the DAC?

    • Oh boy. Users are complaining about the poor audio quality. There seems to be a lot of static via headphone jack. Also, no aptx.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/Nokia/comments/8cwxqx/nokia_8_headp…

      • +1

I just received mine today. Not experiencing the static via headphone jack.

        Build quality is ok.
        Screen looks decent.
        Came with a case.
Included earphones though ok lacked bass but hey its cheap so wasnt expecting audiophile quality but its loud enough.

Just going through the myriad of updates.

  • apologies if this is a little late to the party but after googling the seller, i think i'll wait for another deal.
reviews are very hit and miss - items may arrive quickly, may take a lot longer than expected and/or require constant following up or may not arrive at all. warranty requires sending it back to HK at your own cost and may incur other fees as well.

hopefully those that bought have better luck than some of the buyers from the UK! oh and toby's deal au (which is approx 340 delivered) is the same site apparently.

    https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/eglobalcentraluk.com?langua…

    • Have you tried pricematching with Officeworks? Others have commented that it is possible

  • Can anyone comment on the headphone jack issue? Is this a widespread problem?

    • +1

I will more than happy to test it out when i get the one i bought.

  • Did the polish blue variant go up in price? Was just about to purchase hen I saw it was $400+ now.. :(

  • +2

mine arrived today comes with a clear case

    • +1

That's quick delivery. Can you give a quick review? Is everything working okay in Aus, considering it's a grey import? Is the clear case good enough to protect the phone, if paired with a screen protector?

    • +1

wow, waiting for a quick review before pull the trigger, please

      • +1

full reception on central coast seems to be working great
case is only a cheap hard shell it does not protect the screen
glass is flush with the case
updates took a while and there are multiple
the fast charger comes with a crappy adapter and can be plugged in reverse hard to tell if plugged in correctly would not use
good phone nice screen great price
would maybe be a better deal for those that got office works to price match
duel sim vs fast charger but still good

        • You can get a decent Blitzwolf QC3 dual charger for around $15 delivered, so many would prefer the dual sim.

  • +1

Well, both of my HTC EVO 10's have broken.

Now the process of having to find all the accessories and boxes to try and send back as they (E-Global) have said if not complete, no warranty will be carried out.

    WTF is that.

No more Chinese phones for me, only AU delivered.

    • Oh man, that's bad news. I got really close to pulling the trigger a few times on same Evo 10. What went wrong with them, overheating problem maybe with that SD810 ???

On a side note I went for a as new opened box stock local model ( Telstra unlocked ) HTC 10 through ebay for $200 and going great and has Oreo update since Feb.

If it was not for being happy still with the HTC 10 I would go for this Nokia 8 as it is a really decent phone that will get Android 9 and updates with stock Android for over a year to come still.

  • Thanks OP, was in the market for a Moto G6, so was happy to jump on this deal for what is a better phone (for me at least).

  • Anyone else get officeworks to price match. Tried a few stores but couldn't. One guy said it was not identical as aus stock isn't dual sim.

    • Aus stock is dual sim or sd
According to the Manusl in the box anyway

      • According to other comments here, the Australian version doesn't have a dual sim variant. The girl at OW was going to price match it, but then another staff came around and pretty much said it wasn't identical :(

        • Try a different store maybe. Not sure how it’s not. Instructions in it from officeworks have picture of 2 sims in manusl or 1 sim and sd

          • @taoz: I've managed to match mine today in QLD.
I used the catch of the day website though

Edit = sorry for the direct reply to you

  • +1

Thanks all, now have in my hands one of these phones (courtesy of a ow price match).

I must say for the price, absolute best value for $. With my short playing with this phone, it's great, powerful and a terrific camera. Loving the vanilla Android instead of the usual network rom and looking forward to pie coming soon.

    • +1

Which OW store did you try? I tried 3 and they wouldn't do it or had no stock. Can you upload a receipt? Cheers

      • Same comment here, recpt would be great.

      • QLD, North Lakes.

Thought I'd share my experience as well. Ordered on the 16th, delivered today (BNE). Phone is heavy (comparing this to a Xiaomi MI5), has a fairly large lip and chin. Took an hour or so to update all the security patches etc. The phone is very responsive, switching between apps is fast, the camera is decent (took a few HDR shots of words from a distance and they were all legible upon zooming in.Took a few HDR shots of random objects in the office and the results were quite good with good details and color) and restarts were quick. The speaker is clear and loud enough for ringtones and music sounds decent. The speaker is bottom firing and it is possible to completely block out the sound by covering the speaker grill. The fingerprint sensor is accurate and works well although it is slower than the MI5 to unlock which doesnt really bother me. I work in the CBD, so cant really comment on the reception as it is excellent with full bars(4G). Browsing the net and youtube were a breeze as well. Opened multiple pages and was able to switch between them with ease. I am quite pleased with the phone and my initial impression is, for the price point it is a very capable phone and my mum will hopefully like it too.
Also the price is now $300 before applying the code on the website.
    Thanks OP!

    • thanks, updated

    • thanks, it is 4G/4G or 4G/3G?

      • As far as I am aware, from what I've read about the phone it supports 4G+4G. I have not tried it yet though.

      • "The Nokia 8 TA-1052 is Dual SIM 3G/4G meaning that one SIM rests on 4G LTE whilst the second rests on 3G HSPA+. However, should a phone call come through, the Nokia 8 will lose the ability to use the inactive SIM while the call takes place."

        My full review is:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/412060

        • thanks for your full review.

    • Cheers….so all is better than the mi5? I've got a mi5s and on the fence at the moment.

      • +1

Do it. The nokia 8 has band 28. Bigger and better res screen. Expandable memory slot.

        Newer faster cpu.

Nokia is a year newer than mi5s.

Updates to android oreo. Will be getting android pie apparently.

      • +1

Can confidently say yes, it is better than the MI5 in terms of performance. Its just got a slightly larger screen and its heavier.

  • +1

Wow this just keeps getting cheaper. Now $288 after using code.

    • Even at the $317 price i got it for. This i would recommend even moreso now with the price drop.

      • I've been hesitating……I got a blue one for my wife before it went back up to $400 and she is really liking it so far. The screen looks good, the camera seems decent too for this price.

I was looking at getting an S8 or V30+ but this is now less than half the price. Don't think I can justify spending an extra $300 now.

        • I understand exactly how you feel. I pulled the trigger and got another one yesterday @ $309. Go for it mate. Its a decent phone at a very good price.

          • @meego: Agreed, just placed the order.

          • @meego: just pulled the trigger. XD.

            • @melcool: You wont be disappointed

              • @meego: Got the one I ordered on the 23rd, today!!! blazing quick delivery!

                • @meego: what? shipped from where? Mine is still in "pick up"

                  • @melcool: The label shows sender as 'Faster Success Ltd', looks like from Sydney. Toll express parcels

                  • @melcool: Ordered 23rd at around lunch time.
                    Toll website shows
Picked up 23rd 7:27pm Hong Kong
In Transit 26th Oct 6:53 am Brisbane Airport
Out for Delivery 26th Oct 6:56am
Delivered 26th Oct 10:45am Fortitude Valley

                    • @meego: thanks for your update. I think I will receive it next week.

                    • @meego: just got mine today, loved it, but it seems like battery usage is quite fast, maybe thats because lots of updates are running at the background.

  • Thanks OP. I pulled the trigger on $317 delivered. Ordered on 19th and received on 23rd. A descent delivery time. I received the TA-1052. All seems to be good coming from RedMi Note 3. Not sure if it has B28, I'm with Optus and now shows only 4G, in my old phone it usually shows LTE+. Other Sim is 3G only. I have downloaded the "Network Cell Info Lite", it always show as connected to B3.

Can you guys help me figure out if they have send the contract version to me?

    • Did the box come sealed? Thanks

      • Yes it was.

    • +1

      Nokia displays LTE as 4G.

Do a speedtest. I got 180 Mbps on Vodafone. Zero chance of that happening on 3G.

      • Thanks StrayfireX, I'm getting 60-85mbps with Optus. You could be right.

  • Back to $304 + Delivery now :(

    • Deal a good deal though

      • Haha,…the deal went from Good to better to great,…..and now back to really good lol.

  • Anyone know how to stop the sound it makes when plugging in the charger?? V

    • -1

      replace your charger?

      • Nope happens when plugging in cable

  • I was a bit ripped off. $325 delivered with insurance.

    • I would still be happy to get at that price. Its a heck of phone. Decent spec for the money. Even better when it gets android 9.

    • the good thing is you can get the blue one at the same price now.

  • anyone have issues with MMS?
on optus and MMS wont show up straight away and mostly error and wont show.
    reset setting multiple times
    have android 8.1
    any help would be appreciated!

    • Hey mate, I'm copy/pasting this from optus's website

      1. Access your mobile's 'Network', 'Carrier' or 'Cellular' selection settings
      2. When presented with a list of available mobile networks, manually select any network other than Optus
      3. After a few moments you'll receive an error stating something like "Can't connect to selected network". Your mobile is now fully 'logged off' from all connection sessions with the Optus Network.
      4. Once you've received the error: Reselect the original 'Automatic' or 'Default' network selection setting, don't manually reselect Optus' Network.
      5. Your mobile, after a few moments will 'log back in' to the Optus Network with a refreshed connection session
      6. To complete the session refresh, switch your mobile off then on again

      https://www.optus.com.au/shop/support/answer/cant-send-or-re…

      • Cheers I'll try that.
Called Optus who were of no help at all

  • If i Purchase this, can i use it to get tax back through Tourist Refund Scheme? Planning to go travelling in December.

    • only if it comes with a Tax Invoice showing the GST amount…. which it sounds like it does not.

  • No Band 19

  • Is it possible to insert two SIM cars and an SD card?
