  • Warranty?

    • -8

This question has been asked tonnes of times, just people are too lazy to check the web site: https://www.eglobalcentralau.com/warranty

      • +1

        So no then :P

    • +4

      Yeah basically no warranty

    • Even though one or more countries may be mentioned herein, this Warranty is only applicable in the country where the Product was purchased through Manufacturer’s authorised sales channels, provided that the Product was intended for sale in that country (“Covered Country”).

As such Hong Kong warranty applies.

12 months as far as I can see.

  • +5

Can use coupon 'WELCOME' to reduce the price by $6

  • +5
    • is this the dual-sim variant though? that would be an absolutely incredible deal if the price match could be pulled off.

      • +1

        Not dual Sim

        • +1

The OW site says it doesn't have dual sim but, from what I can see, it looks like it's the exact same model as on the eglobal site. Is there an Australian variation without dual sim?

Edit: Turns out Australian variant has no dual sim.

          • @Theycott: But does it still have the expandable memory? Or does that go in the second sim spot?

            • @TrafalgarSean: It does have expandable memory but it must be through a microsd slot.

    • officeworks won't price match grey imports.

Android Pie (9) is coming, most likely in November.

My Nokia 7+ updated on Friday and apart from the google search box at the bottom mostly positive experience.

    • Thanks and nice to know. I have Android 9 (pixel experience) running on my OP2. The so called adaptive brightness is just annoying. What did you think of this?

  • +2

Specs say 700MHZ, hopefully that's our band 28 , if so very good catch

    • Good question. I wonder. Anyway we can found out.

  • This vs moto G6? I'm thinking this but if someone can confirm my thinking. I've been at the pub all afternoon and feel an impulse buy coming on.

    • +8

      Definitely Nokia 8.

      • +4

Thanks for confirming this as a good intoxicated purchase. Got one.

    • +3

this has ois, and a much faster processor

    • -1

      Much smaller screen though

    • Similarly - This or a Nokia 6.1?

  • +2

$10 more at catch.com.au, but "sold and delivered by techwarehouse.".
… Which is a front for DWI .

Does either company include gst and tax invoice for TRS ? Better warranty?

    • In that case, if Catch gift cards work with Catch Marketplace purchase, then it can potentially be $314.82 if you pay with 10% discounted gift cards.

      • Can confirm that GCs works for marketplace purchases

    • +2

You won't get GST Tax Invoice from either company.

I bought from both websites in the past.

  • +1

Just purchased but unfortunately shipping jumped to $48 in cart after purchase…

    • This is the mob that advertises the lowest price on everything then adds stupendous postage. I'm surprised it wasn't $148 for postage.

      • +3

Just ordered, total $333 includng shipping. Checked shipping options after reading ur comments. But no option costing $48..

    • +1

      Remote? Upsold to insured priority?

      • +2

Looks like despite having clicked economy shipping, it has defaulted up to express shipping and I'm in a remote area.

        • +1

          Yep, same boat as you.

Not really remote but regional NSW ( less than 50 Klm each way from large city centres on the North Coast ) and they always try to charge me around $48 for regular shipping, even to outer Brisbane suburb/edge of Sunshine Coast too.

That's why I have often been tempted to buy cheaply from here, but stopped myself because of my high shipping costs.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Perhaps get it shipped to a friend/relative. Even if they stuck it in an express satchel and sent it on it would still be cheaper.

    • Just purchased one and got charged $339.

You sure you selected the right postage type?

    • +1

It's hitting me with the $48 shipping too. I'm regional but in no way (profanity) nowhere regional.

      • Maybe I didn’t hit the wrong one then. Bizarre. I’m in Tasmania but still, hardly regional to justify the extra cost.

Worked out $349 from here with free shipping.

      • Me too, see above comment.

      • *There will be a fixed surcharge of AU$33.9 for remote areas defined by couriers.
I'm thinking of buying it but unsure about this. Where did it show the shipping price for you?
I live in Tassie, on my cart it says Economy Express Shipping and is only charging $15.

      • Darwin suburban is also $48.

    • Yeah that's non-metro essentially I think. I can get it delivered to work for $15 or home for $48.

  • +5

geez that's an awesome price for a phone with SD835!! i mean it's similar price to the nokia 6.1 with a SD630
    only problems are:
    1) it has capacitive buttons and bezels that remind me of phones from 5 years ago;
    2) there are reports of issues with the screen

long term review here is anyone's interested:
    https://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_8_long_term-review-1718.php

  • +1

"Lots of people are shopping with us at the moment so we will ask you wait briefly"

    Sums it up

    • +1

surely that must be a marketing gimmick, even on ozb theres only a few hundred clicks

      • +1

yeah ive gotten that message everytime i visit the store since i discovered the site

    • +4

      It’s cloudflare ddos protection.

  • +1
    • DWI i believe is the same seller as this.

      So the price?

      OP's deal is cheaper

      • Er pardon….

The price is $318.25 including post, eglobalcentralau want $15 postage

        • +4

          DWI: $318.25 + GST.

      • In my case, since I got the 10% discounted eBay gift cards:

        $351 * 0.9 = $315 + 1% cashback = $312.74.

        :)

  • Any one owned new Nokia phones can shed some light on its overall performance

    • +4

I bought a Nokia 7 plus recently. Nokia is known for very well built, sturdy phones and their new models are no exception. Software wise, they could use some improvement.

They recently rolled out Android Pie and it is full of minor bugs. Stuff like the status bar flashing sometimes when unlocking, the custom lock-screen text not showing up and certain developer options not being able to be toggled.

The Nokia OZO audio is really impressive in the main camera app, however it can only be used there. All other applications are not optimised for the microphone setup and end up defaulting to the phone call microphone at the bottom of the phone. This mic is comparatively very quiet and results in recordings in Snapchat and other third party camera/audio apps being very soft.

I've also found the headphone jack to be unreliable to the point that I am considering buying a usb-c adapter. Sometimes it sounds fine, sometimes the audio quality drops and it sounds quite bad.

I've heard many instances of people having Bluetooth connection issues, but mine has been fine so far.

Other than these issues, my phone has been fantastic so far and I certainly don't regret my purchase.

      • The headphone jack seems to be a common issue with the Nokia phones. How bad is the problem? This would almost be a deal breaker for me as I listen to music off the phone a lot

        • I've discovered it's not actually a hardware issue with the headphone jack, but rather a software issue. I updated to Pie almost straight after getting the phone, so I'm not sure if the issue was introduced with the update or whether it was also on Oreo.

I initially thought it was a bug caused by my extensive use of Google Text to Speech for listening to books. Text to speech uses a low audio quality/bit rate mode which I thought was getting stuck on and was affecting audio through other apps hours later, making them sound low quality/fuzzy. However, it seems to be a more general audio management issue, maybe due to prioritising audio streams.

If you use MX Player for watching videos, you can see what I am talking about in action by switching the decoder between HW, HW+ and SW. Seemingly randomly, some settings will sound fine and others will sound bad.

If my music player sounds bad, I've found unplugging my headphones and force-stopping the app fixes it. It also doesn't start sounding bad on its own, it only happens when I am switching between multiple apps that play music/audio.

I've record some audio samples if you want more of an idea of how it sounds. I used a cheap adaptor to record it to PC so it sounds better in person. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16H6LUwAy4_X2_h_aJJ-j…

          • @wishcresp: Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to pricematch it with Officeworks and if I do have a problem then I can take it back

    • This is for the Nokia 6.1

Hmm it's sort easy to press the speaker on button with your ear especially when you use other apps during a call.

WiFi Hotspot will go off automatically when not used for a period but will still show it being on. You have to unlock the phone before the Hotspot returns.

Also it got really hot whilst charging enough for the phone to shutdown. Only occurred once so maybe it was a random bug. Or maybe don't rest the phone on top of a battery bank when charging.

  • Great phone. Had mine 10 months. Grey import.
Just had to buy an Aussie QC3 charger, got a Blitzwolf one.

    • So it doesn't come with a qc3 charger? Or the one included just had a us plug?

      • QC3 charger included when I bought my grey import. Just not Aussie plug which I needed an adaptor.

        • This. I don't like the adapters, the plug tends to hang out from the wall too far.

        • Is it a US plug? If so that works in my favour as im sending this phone overseas as a gift.

      • Had a non-Aus plug on the genuine charger and supplied with a cheap adapter.

    • +1

      what the camera like?

      • want to know about the camera too

        • +1

Good with enough light, not so good with low light. I would say better than average 2017 released phones but certainly not as good as Samsung flagship S and Notes.

          • @WHL: Thanks for that mate.

Been running a few comparisons between this and a few other phones. Exactly what you said, seems liek its only slightly behind most 2017 phones but half the price. I think I'll get it.

            • @kmish: Also it's great to be getting all the updates from Google. Every month I receive a security update.
Currently on Oreo (Android 8), with Pie (9) arriving in November.

      • +1

Here's an image I took at a party a few weeks ago.
        https://ibb.co/e6E4mL

I don't think it's amazing, but I don't expect much from a phone. Phones will never compare to an SLR.

        • Thanks man. Buying it to upgrade the missus's phone from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, doubt she will be disappointed!

  • Can anyone comment on the camera quality, other than the reviews above? Coming from a LG G4, I'm curious if the camera would be a downgrade.

    • -1

      Camera is no good apparently

      • Sample pics I have seen look way better than anything in the price range.

    • LG G4's camera is not that great anyway, especially in low light. This Nokia 8 is certainly an upgrade. Nokia upgraded the camera's software a few months ago so it's now a lot better. Be aware of this when reading old comments on the web.

    • Here's a pic I took recently.
      https://ibb.co/e6E4mL

      • Pic looks decent.

      • is the the old camera app, or latest release.
        or GCAM app?

        • Updated camera app, took the photo about a month ago.
          All latest, stock software.

  • Can anyone comment if Google Pay and other payment method work on this phone? Usually oversea phone have problem with them.
    Thanks

    • I have tried plenty of overseas phones (10 or more), none had any problem with Tap and Pay. In fact, I only had problem with local unlocked Nokia 3 bought from Jbhifi.

  • +3

I bought this phone 6 months ago and have found it to be well worth the money. I paid more than this deal but still happy with the price. Screen is great in the sun and the camera takes good pictures. It has an issue with the screen when the phone is plugged in to charge. The touchscreen gets a bit wonky. Returns to normal when not charging. I got a grey import that came with a UK plug. No issues, just bought a travel adapter and fast charge works well. Google pay works fine. Used tap and pay in plenty of shops in Oz.

    • any case recommendations

      • I bought a thin silicone case on eBay. Makes it easier to pick up and hold with confidence.

  • It doesn't seem to come with Android One. Otherwise it would be a nobrainer for me

    • +1

But a post above indicates pie is coming. That'll do me.

    • I thought all Nokia phones (that are more capable than Android Go requirement) are part of Android One, as per this report. But looking into the Nokia 8 spec page doesn't show it has Android One, which 8 Sirocco has. Nokia 8 doesn't receive pie beta AFAIK. Maybe that indicate it's not Android One (yet?).

Anyway, speaking on Android One, I expected better. I thought stock means more timely OS update, due to less bloatware to update. It turns out to be security update only though. Better than nothing I guess.

      • Android One wasn't around when Nokia 8 was made (I think). It comes with an almost stock version of Android. Get monthly updates and have been on Oreo for about 6 months, Pie coming in November.

  • +2

for a sub $400 phone, this or the Mi Mix 2?

    • -1

Personally I'd extend my budget by$100 and try to get a mix 2s for the camera. Or go sub$300 for a budget phone

      • Could you be more specific about your reasons why and give examples/links to Rival/Good sub $300 budget phones?

        • +1

I use my phone to take photos I want to keep sometimes. So i bought an htc 10. It was around $500 at the time. Good value for the camera.

$400 gets you what? If you want a clean android experience, get an android one cheapy. i think mi a2 is android one. Should be around $300.

$500 will get you a flagship from 2007. mi mix 2s has one of the best cameras in its price range. should be around $500.
