Calling out All Audi Q3 Owners - How Many Kms Does Your Car Do on a Full Tank?

I was wondering if Audi Q3 owners (2.0 TFSI Quattro 125KW) would be kind enough to vote on average how many Kms does your car do on a full tank.

Don't imagine you will find too many people who own this car on Ozbargain…

Asks for fuel consumption figures, gives tank range options.

average fuel consumption on a full tank.

"I average a full tank's worth of fuel consumption on a full tank" is what I think OP's after. Maybe they have a fuel leak?

    • I can understand the confusion. I've changed the question.

What if it's less that the poll options?

change it to average L per 100km and walah

It should be km/l like the rest of the world.

      • And the rest of the world is exactly where?:))

      • +2

It should be km/l like the rest of the world.

Thank you! At least someone has their head on right. L/100km is such a stupid measurement. I don’t even know how it got started or became so mainstream. (I think it was to help retards understand fuel economy better.. Big number, bad. Little number, good.)

For so long before this became the norm, fuel consumption was always talked about in “miles per gallon” and people still ask that when talking about cars. “Nice car, mate. How many miles to the gallon does it get?” But I cringe and die a little inside every time I hear the reply contain L/100km…

If we lived in a universe where everyone drove in blocks of 100km, then it would make sense, but we don’t, so it doesn’t.

        Agree.
Previously we had mpg IE distance per fuel volume so km per litre is the same format.
Kmpl is much easier to work out your range when filling or topping up. Eg if I get 9 kmpl on my BT50, my 20 litre jerry can will get me 180 km.

Full tank? who would drive the car to last drop of fuel?

I think L/100 Km is more realistic.

    • +1

An average L/100km is probably even more realistic, and the poll options probably give that (unless the owners regularly look at the trip data etc.)

Most drivers could estimate, within a 50km range, what they get out of a (standard) fuel tank.

range is a good measurement too, I'd say better than L/100 Km for a number of reasons:

      • it's easy to measure: after filling tank, check Distance to Empty reading

      • it gives you an indication of how efficiently you've been driving. eg if I keep driving like this I'm only going to get 600 km out of this tank

      • it tells you never to buy an Audi Q3 because it would require an extra fuel stop or 2 between Brisbane to Adelaide (BMW 320D gets about 1200 km on long trips btw)

      • it tells you the current technology in electric cars makes them useless (range only good for around town, but a taxi would be cheaper)

  • What is your mileage OP? most people don't run the tanks until empty so L/100km is a more appropriate measurement. Apps such as Fuelio help calculate this.

    • It is about 11.5 L/100km or about 550 Kms in a tank which seems bit high that’s why asking.

      • I'm in that ballpark with a Forester. That seems okay to me for an SUV.

  • This answers for these are filled with so many determining factors that would vary them wildly.

    I have a Q5 2.0 TFSI.

    On the freeway I get about 6.8L / 100km after about 10 kms into a 25kms drive.

Doing a school run would easily be 10.5L / 100kms.

Also what fuel do you use?

    I only use 98.

Also how do you drive? Some people like to keep it in Sports Mode which is fun to drive, but I am tight and leave it in Comfort Mode which is the second most efficient mode.

Some people turn Start/Stop off because it is annoying as F, I keep it on.

    Do you run Air Con?

    • We mostly do daycare run no more than 10 minutes drive. Hardly do any freeway driving. We use 98 as well. Do you think because we just do short distance driving thats why we don’t get good fuel economy. Our is more like 11.5 L/100km

      • Yes.

Don't look at the 8.6L / 100km that they tell you as that is the combined fuel economy for local and long distance driving. Plus we are under the VAG who have been proven to straight out commit fraud.

11.5 is about right for school runs where there are a lot of start stops (speed bumps), high traffic + waiting.

It will be worse in summer when you have the air con on as well.

Also, All Audi Q3 Owners - what do you do when your wife wants her car back?

    • Maybe his Evoque was in for service?

  • +6

Don't own an Audi Q3 but took a shot at the poll anyway.

Useless data is useless. So many variables at play here that the data is useless.

Someone that lives at the end of a freeway ticks the 750+ and someone that lives in the CBD and lets their teenage son drive the car ticks 500~550… how does this poll show anything useful?

  • Also, bear in mind that driving style can vary fuel consumption rates by up to 30%, all else being equal, based on some real world tests done by a motoring magazine a couple of years ago.

    • thanks. I knew driving style can vary fuel consumption but didn't realize it could be up to 30% !

  • There's an app for that, with crowd-sourced real world data.

    http://www.fuelly.com/car/audi/a3?engineconfig_id=&bodytype_…

    • thanks for this

  • Ok, not a Q3, but same engine, perhaps different tune, in my Golf GTI.

On the freeway I get 6.9. Non freeway, closer to 14 - yes double.

It means I do about 350 per fill-up in town. On a road trip, I'm getting 700 to the tank.

It just goes to show how efficient the turbo engines can be. But also how they are capable of sucking up juice like there's no no tomorrow - the power has to come from somewhere.

    • Wow! thanks for the info. So in short nothing to worry about in regards to our fuel consumption. I guess we just do short distance driving that's why it doesn't seem fuel efficient.

      • Indeed.

Have a friend who used to live in Parramatta and only drive short hops using a BL Mazda 3 Neo auto sedan. I had a look at its trip computer once - 16 point something L/100km! Even more than my 380 on LPG lol.

But the consumption rate actually makes sense given their usage pattern at the time, and driving style :)

Being a 2.0TFSI, I feel that perhaps you should pay more attention instead to its potential for higher than reasonable engine oil consumption rate. Strongly recommend you double check with other 2.0TFSI owners re: likelihood/prevention/cure etc.

        • thanks. Will keep an eye on the engine oil consumption.
