Cashrewards Launches VISA In-Store Card Linked Offers (eg Sony Spend $500, Get $60 Back)

5170

Hi all. Today we're proud to announce the official launch of VISA in-store card linked offers. This is something completely new for us which hopefully resonates well with the community. Right now we have 24 stores secured, but there will be many more added so keep your eyes peeled. Simply link your VISA to your Cashrewards account, activate the offer/s, shop in-store, and pay in-store with your linked VISA. Ensure you check the participating outlets (stores) when you activate an offer, as not all outlets relating to the brand may be eligible.

Please note Cashrewards does not see or retain any VISA details. These are collected and stored directly by VISA. VISA allows us only to retain the last 4 digits of your card. Further, we don't request expiry date, name, or security code. Tracking is pretty close to real time around 90% of the time. Strangely, delays can occur when merchants use the same bank as your VISA card, as there is no priority for VISA to cross-check details immediately. Under these situations, tracking can take up to 14 days.

These in-store offers are totally separate from the online ones, and cannot be combined. Most will have a minimum spend and expiry date. We hope you all jump on board with this, as it's an extremely exciting time for us here. We're also pretty close to launching our new Mobile App which will further strengthen the brand. Thanks for your support as always. Enjoy :)

  • What if you split payments with Sony so that you can maximise the discount? Eg, instead of paying $1k pay 2 x $500…can you do that?

Good idea. None of the shops interest me at the moment, but keen to try it out in the future. Cashrewards, please update new merchants in your email newsletters. Thanks!

    Enjoy )

Did you post this with your eyes shut?

  • Don't have any VISA cards but great work TA. I can imagine a lot of work went into this!

    Nice one

Chat Thai and Boon Cafe are interesting ones!

Any deadline to register/link the cards?

  • Can't wait for the cash reward app and mastercard.

  • Do the cards I link have to all be under my name? e.g. can I link my wife’s or parents visas to my account?

    • You only need to provide cc number

  • +1

This is pretty big. And theoretically there shouldn't be any risk of untracked transactions.

Sadly I don't have Visa anymore. I wonder if the "competition" will respond with a Mastercard deal.

@tightarse Any reason we need to go through and activate every single offer? It is extremely cumbersome. I assume its to stop "accidental" cash back rewards, so you can prove that the cash back incentive that cashrewards providing is generating the sales. However it's a bit of a stretch to assume users are going to check the website often just to see which new visa cashback deals are available so they can activate them.

That said I think there are more intuitive ways to implement this feature - for example the new mobile app could send you a notification when you are close in proximity to a participating retailer - and prompt you to activate the offer at that point. I would argue that this is an even stronger demonstration that the Cashrewards incentive led to the sale for the retailer. In the current implementation I will simply periodically check for new offers and activate them - it is very unlikely my spending habits will change but hopefully through my regular usage I'll get some nice cashback.

    • It is going thru cashrewards, so see it the same as if you remember to begin your shopping by clicking thru CR (or not)

    • I was thinking the same thing. I always check CashRewards before buying online but to check before going to a store will be a hard habit to change. Looking forward to the app though. I guess this is the first step and then once the app is live, things will improve.

@tightarse hopefully you'll be adding some WA stores soon as the only store I know is Sony :)

  • This is fantastic, can't wait to see other stores added. Hopefully the ones I use.

  • great

Finally found a use for the Macquarie card.

Hopefully many retailers get behind this!

great Idea tho will be good if and when we get some stores Like Say JBhifi or Eb ?

    • hope they all get on boarded soon.

Good to have small players as well in competition to Shop small.

  • I managed to link 1 card other day but now that I am trying to link my other visa cards I am getting error "userkey already in use". any idea how to get around this?

  • +2

I dont use any of the above stores… would be nice if you can get Menulog, Deliveroo, amazon and some PC component stores on board.

    • +3

      I'm a bit curious.

would be nice if you can get Menulog, Deliveroo, amazon

This offer requires you presenting your actual card in-store, not online.

  • Merged from How Does Cashrewards "Card Link" Work

Has anyone used the Card Link

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/en/card-linked/howitworks

I haven't seen any deal for it. So does it just work like normal credit card point system

    • +1

You ask how it works, but linked the how it works URL which explains very simply, the very question you're asking. Did you watch the video?

Appears to just be a card present version of the existing model…nothing like a rewards program…

    • +2

I think you’ll find there is a deal for it

  • Linked mine! I hope more stores join this soon

can you add ajisen ramen? that would be awesome lol

  • Is there a cap on the cashback amount? In particular the Liquorland offer.

    • +1

Not at all. If there is, it will be specified in the offer terms for each store. At present, these are the terms for Liquorland:

A minimum spend of $20 in a single transaction is required to be eligible for Cashback.

Also, please ensure this occurs for all in-store merchants:

Ensure you 'Tap' or select 'Credit' at payment. Choosing 'Savings' or 'Cheque' will make the transaction ineligible for Cashback.

      • Thanks for clearing that up. Is it limited to just one transaction?

        • +1

For Liquorland, not at all. Again, please check the terms for individual stores. As an example, IKEA is restricted:

Cashback is limited to one single transaction per Cashrewards account within the offer period (offer ends on 06/01/2020 11:59 PM AEDT). Any subsequent transactions may track to your account but will be declined at a later date. Cashback is capped at $5.

  • Almost a dead deal.
The in-store cashback rates are so low…..

Match them to the online deals and this would be great.

  • Free is free, but even 2.5 years later unless you live in Sydney this may as well not exist (other than a few major chains.)

  • Is the Sony in-store cashback of $60 on $500+ spend still active? I can't see it mentioned on the CR site when I search Sony. It just has the online cashback, not the in-store cashback.
