Cashrewards Launches VISA In-Store Card Linked Offers (eg Sony Spend $500, Get $60 Back)

5170

Hi all. Today we're proud to announce the official launch of VISA in-store card linked offers. This is something completely new for us which hopefully resonates well with the community. Right now we have 24 stores secured, but there will be many more added so keep your eyes peeled. Simply link your VISA to your Cashrewards account, activate the offer/s, shop in-store, and pay in-store with your linked VISA. Ensure you check the participating outlets (stores) when you activate an offer, as not all outlets relating to the brand may be eligible.

Please note Cashrewards does not see or retain any VISA details. These are collected and stored directly by VISA. VISA allows us only to retain the last 4 digits of your card. Further, we don't request expiry date, name, or security code. Tracking is pretty close to real time around 90% of the time. Strangely, delays can occur when merchants use the same bank as your VISA card, as there is no priority for VISA to cross-check details immediately. Under these situations, tracking can take up to 14 days.

These in-store offers are totally separate from the online ones, and cannot be combined. Most will have a minimum spend and expiry date. We hope you all jump on board with this, as it's an extremely exciting time for us here. We're also pretty close to launching our new Mobile App which will further strengthen the brand. Thanks for your support as always. Enjoy :)

Doesn't look like there's anything there yet that I'll use, but it'll be interesting to see if this becomes bigger.

    • -1

Looks like it works online too, so does that mean this is the end of the "MY CASHBACK DIDN'T WORK BLAH BLAH BLAH" posts on Ozbargain?

      • +7

        It's a real issue though

  • +7

Thanks TA for great stuffs. Also, can't wait to use Cashrewards app :)

    • +1

Sweet didn't know there was an app being released as well. Do you know roughly when?

      • +1

Sorry billybob1978 personally I got no clue. TA said "pretty close" in the OP so I guess shouldn't be that long. Cheers

        • +1

Cool cheers mate. I'm just stoked there is going to be an app, so pretty close is good for me :)

  • +3

Awesome deal as always. Turn those Visa cards into reward cards.

  • +9

    Nice! Competitor to AMEX!

  • +1

A new way to save money. Can't say fairer than that.

    • +21

Or a new way to lure you in to spend more money?

      • +2

This but we love it, right?

        • +1

Mate love and addiction is the same thing in my books.

  • What if my visa links to Paypal and I pay with PayPal. Does it count?

    • +6

So you use PayPal to pay in-store?

      • Ah…This is something completely new for me so I only thought purchasing on line..

  • Very cool idea, large pint to the guy who thought of it.

    • +12

But if it were a large pint, it would no longer be a pint.

      channelingjv

      • +2

        2 pints then?

      • +1

        channellingjv

This needs to be a thing.

        • +3

It was meant to be a hashtag, but apparently that's how you get bold. Who knew?

          • @ely: Yeah, wasn't expecting that either. It's more of a heading it seems. Bold is double asterisk.

            • +1

@WhyAmICommenting: Oh crap, I've been here for years and have only just discovered that the commenting and post systems use markdown :D Well that explains it.

So, I was #channelingjv (just don't put the hash at the start of the line, so that it doesn't look like a markdown title).

              • @ely: #channelingjv

Actually, you can put the hash at the start of the line. You just need to escape it like so: \#channelingjv.

        • +1

No, it really really really doesn't. One is too much already!

        • +1

I just assumed this was JV without seeing g user name

      • +2

Good point. I meant large beer. I’m from Europe I don’t even know what a pint is ;-)

      • In South Aus there are 2 sizes of pints. The ubiquitous pint which is actually the size of other staes' schooner and the metric plint which is the same as a pint in other states. So yes, you can get a larger pint, but only in SA.

    • -3

In-store rewards via cashback sites is not a new concept. I suspect they modified the concept used by cashback world https://www.cashbackworld.com/au as they don't have an dedicated app or card 💳 to use so they use the visa card to track your in-store purchases

  • +2

Pretty schmick TA! Will definitely check it out.

  • +18

    so wheres the bargain

announcing a feature isnt a bargain, at least have a signup bonus or something

    • +1

Sony Spend $500, Get $60 Back

      • -7

Then the post should predominantly mention the actual deal…

    • +4

Well it's visa's version of Amex cashback..
Thanks to banks withdrawing amex partnerships this is a good addition.

    • I wish this would not end up like eGift Card Portal a year ago. Good efforts though!

  • +2

Is a similar feature with MasterCard in the works?

  • -5

    Is this Ozbargain or Ozannouncement

    • +9

It's a legit deal if you bothered to read. My Visa debit card has never earned me points or any rewards of any kind. Now I can link it up and receive cashback aka… free money. It's the very definition of a deal.

      • -8

Today we're proud to announce the official launch

Nothing mentioning a specific deal in the description.

        • +2

Why mention it in the description when it's blatantly in the title? It's concerning that you read the description but not the title.

Cashrewards Launches VISA In-Store Card Linked Offers (eg Sony Spend $500, Get $60 Back)

          • @Clear: spend $500 at sonys terrible RRP
            get measly $60 back

          • @Clear: For Sony deal, one can take CR offer to get $60 and go through SB to earn 4.5% back for online shopping.

One reward is from VISA, the other one is from affiliate channel, assuming both parties do not disclose it to each other.

            • +1

              @Neoika:

For Sony deal, one can take CR offer to get $60 and go through SB to earn 4.5% back for online shopping.

That makes no sense. How can you get SB instore? This is a deal on using your VISA card instore.

          • @Clear:

Why mention it in the description

Ummm because that’s what the description is for.

But you are right let’s just let TA use it to announce a new feature of a business they work for.

            • @ciab: Title has an example of a deal as per OzBargain's requirements. The description then describes how the entire process works so people don't need to ask the same question repeatedly in the comments. Makes sense to me.

If TA didn't post this or another rep did there wouldn't be these comments. He's always had a hate club years before even joining CR.

    • Are you serious?

There are 24 different stored with decent enough deals.
Not everyone has amex, neither amex does cashback on most of them. Where you can earn decent cashback on debit cards? Unless you are in India or SEA where cash is king and govt encourages digital transactions.

      How it us announcement?
      Votes speak for itself

  • +1

Lols thanks TA, even though I don’t shop at those stores listed 😁

  • +1

Where to get a good, OZB worthy VISA card?

    • VISA debit card wise, I only know of ING, not sure if HSBC uses VISA.

      Credit card wise: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/cards/visa-mastercard-rewards/

EDIT: okay UBank and HSBC uses VISA for its debit card too.

      • My CommBank and ANZ uses visa

        • Interesting, my CBA debit is Mastercard and the credit cards they advertise are also MC.

          Thanks for informing =)

  • This looks good, might sign up when there are stores on the list located in Tassie

    • Shiploads?

  • I guess you can only link one card per CR account right?

edit found the answer in the FAQ:

First, link one or more eligible Visa card to your CASHREWARDS profile and then activate available in-store Cashback offers to your card(s).

  • +3

    Thanks TA.

Hope there are some AMEX reps here on OzB taking notice. AMEX better up their game cause there is a new kid in town !

  • +1

Shut up and take my Visa!

  • +5

Lol that video showed her with 3.1k in cashback.

    • +1

      Must be TA's account

    • +2

Her house is full of build-a-bears. Quite scary really…

  • +3

Probably won't go to any of the listed stores but assume the list will expand and it's not a bad deal 5-10% cashback!

Just wondering TA if you can explain what the companies get from this? I assume attract customers but also access to personalised data to target marketing? Similar to flybuys etc.? Apologies if I completely don't understand how these things work.

  • +2

Can this be used with Google Pay? Since the real card number is hidden from the vendor. I can't even see the full virtual card number in the Google Pay app.

    • Unfortunately not at this stage. Physical VISA card must be presented in-store.

      • -1

That’s interesting. I’m happy to carry my Visa credit, not sure my Visa debit…

        • +1

There's a few things to iron out with the way the Google/Apple Pay token is passed onto VISA from the POS terminals, and because there are many different types of POS terminals, it complicates it further. Once that's been sorted it will work 100% of the time across all stores. So at this stage, rather than say Google/Apple Pay will work at such & such stores, it's safest to take the blanket approach and say no across the board. Simply present your VISA for now :)

          • @tightarse: What about bank apps?

Though I am using Google Pay, I also have the NAB app with my card.

TBH there is nothing in the list of shops now where I might go so not too fussed but this has a lot of potential.

            • @GaryG: It all depends on the how the bank’s app is sharing card details with the POS terminal. If tokens are used to authenticate transactions and VISA has separate & different processes to resolve these, it could lead to transactions being missed. Again, using a physical card is always the safest option.

              • +1

@tightarse: You will have a better idea than me. ;)

Hopefully Google Pay, etc is sorted by the time I want to set up my card.

          • @tightarse: Did Google Pay ever get added?

      • Hi Bud,

I'm having trouble linking my paypal account. Is there a chance you can have a look at my account? My email is [email protected]. It just show a red notification with my email addy on it. Thanks

        • Hi. Please turn on messaging and PM me. I'd suggest reporting your comment and asking the mods to remove it as you don't want your email made public. But to help you along, you need to first verify your PayPal account in order to be able to add it to Cashrewards. Please see here. Thanks.

  • +5

    Linked (4) VISA's. Thanks TA!

    Hopefully Mastercard and Amex soon!

  • Will the virtual VISA card number registered on Google Pay works?

    • +1

Same here, Will this work on apple pay?

      • +1

      • +1

Unfortunately not at this stage. Physical VISA card must be presented in-store.

  • +2

    Dont have visa card.

  • +3

For those without a VISA card (maybe also those who have?), there are Account Opening Cashback offers (when you open a Transaction Account and make a deposit of certain amount) from Bank of Melbourne, St George, Bank SA which issue VISA debit cards.

Go with Bank of Melbourne if you are interested in opening an account for the VISA debit card, as it offers $50 cashback while the other two are only $40. See this post here by ricardigan for terms and conditions.

  • +1

Your Visa card must be an Australian issued card. This includes (but is not limited to) Visa Credit cards, Visa Debit cards and Visa Pre-paid cards.
