  • Must be 14 years or older. (No good for my kids).

  • Interesting.. will check it out

  • ….and $5 monthly fee for those 21 or over if you don't deposit $2k or more each month.

  • FYI the previous deal was $75, which ended 28th last month.

  • I'm in NSW. Would I be able to open account with BOM and successfully compete ID verification (got NSW drivers licence) without having to visit any branch? Wondering why would anyone opt for opening AC in other two banks if BOM gives $10 extra.

    • +1

I applied and opened a BoM account. I'm in SA. You have to go into a branch to prove 100pt ID, and you can do this at St George (I went into a BankSA).

      • Thank you

  • Does this have the same residency requirements as earlier deals? (NSW i think)

Question about deposit $250 into the account, does the $250 has to stay in the account until bonus been paid. Or can be deposited and transfer out ?

    • +1

Deposit $250 then you can transfer out immediately. Account needs to be kept open till receipt of bonus. Then you can close account.
Advised to deposit $2000 each month instead of just $250 as you will be slugged with $5 a month account fee.
Basically have to transfer and withdraw $2000 twice, once each month.

      • yeah, been doing the 2k deposit each month, just want to clarify about the $250 bit, thanks

    • Is it restricted to Melbourne residents?

      • No. Opened one in last promo when bonus was $75.
Sydney Resident, did ID in St George Branch.

    • Top find, easy money, hurry up, these will be ozbargainized

      • MAJOR brain-damage in trying to open a account…

TERMINATE, not desperate enough for this bullshit

    • Perhaps some seasoned OzBargainers can help out:
Is it worth having St George in this post considering Bank of Melbourne are the same group and offering the higher $ amount?

      • +1

Just open BOM for $50, and call to close.
They're the exact same bank, you can even use BOM login to log into StGeorge. Exact same account. Why $40 when you can get $50?

    • watch out for the $5 account fee unless you deposit $2k/month

      • Expect if you're under 21, then you don't have to pay the fee.

    • You need to have the account opened for 55 days before you get the $50? $5 fee per month unless you deposit 2k. So You need need deposit 2k in order to get the $50….or $250 deposit for $50 less $5 fee..

      • Deposit $2000, it meets both criteria, and withdraw the next day.
Do it twice, as 55 days spans over 2 months.

    • Easy to do this for people who just got the Amplify Credit Card, just one click to create the Complete Freedom Account

    • +1

tried last time with st george. called up a few times after 55 days and was told bonus only paid after 60 days of first deposit. then still no bonus after 60 days. had to call in again to gey staff manually add it to my account. terrible experience, not worth it

    • I had no trouble last time.

    • Only negative for me transfer between BOM and another major, it took 24hrs WTF.

  • After signing up at BOM, how long did it take to receive your account details and are they emailed?

    • +1

I signed up online with BOM four days ago. I am yet to receive any information whatsoever, not even a confirmation email. Pathetic service!

      • I received my account details in an email today.

I rang and spoke to BOM and was told I have to wait for a call and then go into a branch and show ID to collect my debit card.

        This never happened last year.

        • I rang BOM today. Took 15 minutes on the phone for them to tell me they can't find my application and I have to submit it all over again online. I wonder what happened to all my information that I originally entered. Great job guys!

  • I’m not able to sign up after filling it it goes back to the form start again . Anyone else having the same issue ?

    • Yes, that happened to me in Chrome. It worked fine in Firefox.

  • Got to love their sign up process. Enter my drivers licence and medicare number online, says verification complete. Yet two days later I get an email saying I have to go to a branch to verify my ID.

No BOM branch in perth, need to visit St George to verify. I already have a St George credit card which is verified, so I rang BOM explaining this but they said it's a different bank which is why I still need to visit a branch.

So just to clarify, I had to visit a St George branch to verify my ID for BOM, even though my ID was already verified with St George. Bravo…

To make it funnier, the BOM transaction account actually shows when I log in to my St George account. Oh and I also have a home loan with Westpac. All these banks are linked are they not?

And this was the second time I had to apply for this account. The first time my application was "lost".

  • +1

I had to do the same with Bank of Melbourne. I think that this is something more than id. verification as that can and was done online. They actually want to see the person. Maybe they think it will eliminate identity theft.

    • +1

Yep. Long time Westpac customer here, that's what we were told when I applied for the Amplify card + bank account too. Same thing happened to my wife when I added her as a suplementary user to my already active credit card. The lady was nice enough to explain more context - it seems customers who are "new to the bank" need to be verified in person due to internal procedures.

Any fee for closing the account?

      • +3

        no exit fee

it's so easy to transfer $2000 and then transfer back from ING or whatever

    • +2

WA peps can join too ?

      • Same company “St George” has a $40 offer and they are the proper channel for WA. https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/transaction-accounts/complete-freedom?pid=isc:br:EDB-$40_1812::hpg_c.html

        • +1

Why use St George and lose $10?

WA people can join bank of melbourne too.

    • Anyone know how the ID process works? Will I have to go into a branch and show ID?

If there's some online way of doing it that doesn't require a drivers license, I could potentially open one account for each of my 2 kids, put $250 in, take it out and close the accounts. Avoids the minimum $2k per month deposit too, because they're under 21.

edit: looks too hard. If you can not attend a branch to be identified, you will need to complete a Customer Identification Form (CIF).. They want certified copies of documents etc. Pass.

      • Branch require 1 form of primary ID (Drivers License or Passport). If you don’t have one of those for your Children you can use their Birth Certificates (primary non photo ID) and Medicare card (secondary non photo ID).
I’m not too sure with the Electronic Verification process but I believe it is the same.

Be aware that this is an online only offer though, so make sure to open online and only go to branch if physical ID is required.

      • When I applied with BOM online I gave them two forms of ID. It said verification was complete. However I got an email a few days later saying I had to visit a branch to verify my ID which was pretty annoying. Considering I opened a credit card with St George and never had to visit a branch. Even funnier because the two banks are linked yet they couldn't verify me…

    • This has been running since 2nd October 2018. And we usually bring it back every few months.

We’ve already had so many customers open online and close this at branch by now haha

      • +1

What if not near a branch, can close electronically also?

        • +1

I believe exceptions can be made via our call center for those who live far from a branch. However as I work in branch I’m not 100% sure. Best to call up to query that on 13 22 66.

        • +1

You can go to Westpac branches.
          https://www.bankofmelbourne.com.au/locator/

        • Last time I rang up to close my account.

    • Also bank Sa, however $500 deposit req'd https://www.banksa.com.au/personal/bank-accounts/transaction…

    • I have to say your ID verification question is really dumb.

    • For some reason it does not send me a confirmation email once I have finished the application form to open an account/ nor can I log in. Does it take a while for them to verify and open the account? I just get redirected to the initial page prompting me to make another account… no confirmation no nothing.

      • +1

I applied with bank of melbourne last month, after a week I hadn't heard a thing so I called them up. After 15min on the phone they told me they couldn't find my application, even though it showed on my browsers history that I had submitted it. So I had to resubmit it all again. I finally got an email three days later with my account details. Never received a confirmation email after applying though, nothing to say that it was processing. Pretty poor service if you ask me

        • +1

Hmm yeah…makes you wonder if issues will inevitably arise with their honoring of the $50 cashback in a timely fashion as well. Thanks for the heads up! With modern day technology it surely doesn't cost an arm and a leg to invest in a decent emailing system. Will probably find some time to give em a call tomorrow and see if they can confirm anything on their end. For $50 they sure are making things hard hahah.

          • +1

@venturedngained: I opened 3 of these accounts, for me and my kids, at Bank of Melbourne and received $75 promptly. (previous offer) It was so quick that by the time I looked at mine again they had deducted 2 x $5 for 2 months worth of account fees.
I do not know why they want to pay people to try the account as my experience was pretty bad and made me not want to have anything to do with them again.
            1. you have to go there to open in person or get documents certified and post them.
            2. they want you to create your log in in front of them.
            3. they charge an account fee.
4.Every time you talk to them they want your drivers licence number, your security code and account number, postal address and date of birth.
            4. They made you listen to a terrible voice of some B grade personality who has an irritating whine.
            6. You have to ring up to cancel the account.
To be fair once you get through on the phone the people are nice.
Reminds me of banking in the 1960's.

  • If you received the bonus $40/$50 before the 55 days and then cancelled the account, can they technically request to pay the bonus back?
