[PS4/XB1] Red Dead Redemption 2 $29 When Trading in 2 Eligible Games @ EB Games

740

Got this in an email. Says games need to have 10 dollar trade in value. So not sure how good of a deal this is unless someone can find some cheap games to trade in.

A list of the games would be good (bad, ugly).

    • Yeah, not sure how to find a list but any game you can trade in for $10 seems to work from the fine print.

      • +1

Can you check game trade-in values online? Both games I have are being sold for $28 pre-owned so what price do they buy them at?

        • +10

Probably around $7-$8. It's somewhere between a quarter to a third of their resale price I've found

          • +2

@Ninternet: Talk about high returns on re-selling video games you didn't even create…

            • +2

@Hoolio: Coming from a non-bias POV, I guess it pays for the game sitting on shelves, rent and wages…also the fact that it probably might sit there until the next 25%/50%/BOGOF sale.

As a game trader, ye thats a load of shit. imo best to wait for 25%/50% Bonus + Level Bonus trade deals lol

        • +1

Cannot check eb trade prices online. They are not technically meant to give them over the phone either, I think…. But if you ring 1 store and they refuse, just ring another store. There is no reason, if they have time and aren't lazy, why they cannot look up a few trade prices and tell you over the phone.

    • +9

Here are all the games with a trade in value of over $10 From this thread on the 10th: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/408233 - prices could have changed by then. I also believe that most of them were for PS4 versions, not sure if there is a difference between the PS4 and XB1 trade-in values.

The best bet you have is to call EB ahead and rattle off the list of games you have that you wish to trade in order to see if they're worth over $10, they where happy to do that for me.

      COD ghosts PS4 ($14)
      COD WW2 XB1 ($16)
      Far Cry 5 XB1 ($19)
      GTA5 XB1 ($14)
      Horizon Zero Dawn PS4 ($20)
      Metro Redux PS4 ($14)
      Uncharted Lost Legacy PS4 ($11)
      Wolfenstein 2 XB1 ($13)
      For Honor
      The Last Guardian
      Metro: Redux
      No Man's Sky
      Minecraft: PS4 Edition
      Arms (Switch) $22 - NHL 15 $(15)? ( Was listed as $5 but I assumed a typo)
      Watch dogs 2
      Dead Rising 4
      Far Cry 4
      Destiny 2
      Assassins Creed Origins.

mobbahobba suggested the following games for the Xbox:
      Final Fantasy XV
      Forza Horizon 3
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

FYI - I also traded in a few games worth $7 or $8 that nobody plays any more and an old Wii game for $3 to actually pay nothing for the new COD - good bargain if you ask me. Especially if you had say 10 old games worth $3 or $4 to trade as well. If you go over the cost of the game you get a gift card for the extra value.

      • I got $8 for Phantom Pain.

        • -1

This may be because you are on a low level EB membership level, are you on lvl 1 or 2?

          • +1

@ozchappy: the minimum $10 per game for the deal would almost definitely be taking the base game trade value into account not the eb world trade credit bonus value.

            • @Rusty4: Oh ok, thanks for the clarification mate.

      • FIFA 18 Also sounds like it's over $10 trade value

However it looks like I made a few errors on this list, the following don't appear to be worth over $10 traded in:

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
        NHL 15

I would have edited the post but I took a little bit too long (3/4 of a day or so)

        • +1

Final Fantasy XV may no longer be worth $10+ for trade in.

Like I said in the initial post - the best thing you can do before going into store with your games is call up your local EB Games and give them a list of the games you are willing to trade to see which ones will meet their $10 minimum trade in standard.

I have a gut feeling that the value of trade ins changes also changes based on how much pre-owned stock they have - but I have absolutely no proof of this whatsoever.

I apologize in advance to anyone who has been screwed over by reading my list and thinking it was official, I have no relationship with EB - I just thought that it would be a good thing to do to get a list of the games all in one place to make it easier for all OzBargainer's

          • @ozchappy: Ok did the deal today, Traded in Watchdogs 2 and Cod Advanced warfare both PS4

And as a side bonus I traded in FFXV PS4 which was 9.60 with LVL3 and used my 1 time LVL 3 perk of $10 bonus credit.

        • +1

Just confirming that I went and traded in both FIFA 18 and Phantom Pain (PS4) no issue.

      • Are all these games worth over $10 or just the ones with the prices next to them?

        • +1

These are all the games that I have been told were worth more than $10 trade in value - I only posted the exact value for those that were provided.

          • +1

            @ozchappy: Wow!

Thanks, thought I'd double check because I bought No Man's Sky brand new for about $10 a few months ago

            • +1

@jrjr: The irony being it was probably worth $10 at launch, but from what I hear they have managed to fix a lot of the terrible problems that plagued it at launch.

Just to be sure I would give your EB store a call and confirm, I've accidentally stuffed up on this list before.

      • Lego Starwars Force Awaken $17.

      • I traded in Diablo 3 and Rainbow Six Siege to get the deal.

They didn't accept Dishonored 2, Fallout 4 or Prey.

    • +5

Sounds like it would cost a fist full of dollars

      • +4

Sell it on Gumtree for a few dollars more.

      • When a man's got money in his pocket he begins to appreciate peace.

  • Final Fantasy XV, Forza Horizon 3 and Metal Gear Solid V were all over $10 for me (xbox)

  • I've already preordered at EB, should I cancel ?

  • Is uncharted 4 a thief's end worth more than $10?

    • +1

I don't think it would be any more due to Sony's essentials range or whatever they're calling it. Dropped the new and used prices of all titles that were included

    • +1

No, it wasn't when I traded it in last month. Only Diablo 3 hit $10 exactly oddly enough.

      Under $10 trade ins:
      Project Cars
      Infamous Second Son
      Driveclub
      Last Of Us Remastered
      Uncharted 4

      • traded in last week (level 3)
        uncharted lost legacy - $12
        and titanfall 2 (xbox)- $10.60

  • General rule is look up how much they r selling the game for and will get roughly 1/3 of that price as a trade in. More if it’s a very recent game.

  • -5

Looks like, they haven't got many preorders

    • +5

Its more that everyone with half a brain goes to jbhifi, target etc and get it for $30 cheaper.

      • +3

        Not really.

If you're getting a game it's better to price match at EB and have the chance to return within a week for a full refund.

        • It is better, bought Battlefield 1 and hated it. Couldn't return to Big W or Target, whichever I bought it at.

          • -8

@FabMan: Whatever happened to thinking carefully about a purchase before you make it? Maybe even do some research, see if it's going to be a worthy purchase? Also, EB can ban you at any time for abusing the returns policy, it enables them to resell the game as "new" to someone else which is deceptive as fook. I'm not feeding into that.

            • +1

@Aussie World Warrior: They don't accept returns with the assumption its a brand new & untouched game where you the buyer had simply changed your mind. It's there for no question returns based on gameplay after the fact….theres no abusing of policy here.

There are also those on say level 4 who think they can complete a game within 10 days, and return it for a full refund. Thats a different story but if you can finish a game within that period, good for you…i guess.

            • @Aussie World Warrior: I watched trailers, the reviews said it was a great game with 89% rating, I liked Battlefield 4, 3, 2 and 1, so I was pretty sure I'd like it. Is that good enough for your high standards?

Don't like EB Games policy, don't buy from there, sorted.

  • Prices vary each week. If there are no current pre-owned sales at EB, then games that cost around $38 (pre-owned) sneak in just above the $10 trade-in mark, as a rough guide. The $28 range, as Ninternet mentioned, won't make the cut.

  • Another option is trade in with JB who offer's 2 for 1 which includes red dead and a list of eligible games to trade in

    • +3

Half of these games aren't even out yet..

      • Yeah but at least it's a list and that's because they are also the titles you can trade towards, so the 'free' game.

    • I had a look at their to see if it was viable but they pretty much need to be new releases. Unless you hated 2 games at release I don't think it's worth it. I suppose if you had 2 games at release that have no real replayability could be the go though.

  • I did preorder Ultimate Edition, but low price for standard edition changed my mind!

  • Would FIFA 18 be suitable for a trade in?

    • +2

Yep! A mate of mine successfully traded in FIFA 18 for it.

    • Yes did it today, trade value was $11

    • I bought 2 copies off catch.com at $5 ($12 with postage) for the reason to trade straight in (actually wanted a copy too)

  • I’m guessing that the $10 trade in price is the raw value before u add in be world bonus and 25% trade bonus towards preorders currently on

    • They have to be $10 or more trade value before Eb bonus points etc . However I got the bonus 10% from my rewards card still. Have never used the bonus towards preorder thing as yet, so cannot comfirm on that. Definitely will get your Eb World card bonus, but raw value must be over $10 to be an eligible game.

  • -1

I traded spiderman today and with the carrot level 3 and 25% trade in bonus I got a over $50 trade credit towards RDR2, they said they will match on the day of release so works out to cost me $20. I have a few other older titles that I may trade to get it for free!

    • Wouldn't it have been better to trade spider man to cex for 52 cash, then get rdr2 off Amazon + cashback for roughly $13?

      • -1

Didn't even know what cex was until I just googled it.

Nearest stores are quite a distance away so need to take fuel costs into consideration.

        :)

        • Amazon has it for 62 with APP15 makes it $47

          • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: Bought - now what do I do with my EB pre order credit?

            • @bad hombre: If you want a PS4 controller :) they have a trade 1 ps4 controller for another ps4 controller and pay $19 use the credit to just swap for a new PS4 controller :)

If you're on xbox i got no clue for you

              • @HeyHeyHeyIsItADeal: Thanks - PS4.

My controller is new as I only recently upgraded to a Pro and will lose trade in bonus on the games I traded.

Maybe take the games back and go get cash at cex.

    • Don't like Spider-Man?

      • +1

Finished it. It was great but not much to do after. Did some free roam but got a bit boring. Didn't want to pay extra for DLC.

        • Awesome, thanks for the reply.

          • @RocketSwitch: Def worth a purchase and the story was pretty good! I am think I would have put in 60h into the game to get 100% complete.

  • +1

IMO it was totally worth getting rid of games that rarely any of us play any more for a game which will be enjoyed by all of us for hours and hours.

  • Anyone tried Watch dogs 2 or FFXV?

    • Watch dogs 2 and Final Fantasy XV both appeared to work, I have a list of confirmed games at the top of this post. Your bets bet though is to call your local store and ask, it takes a few minutes if they're not busy as they have the most current list at hand right next to the counter.

      • +1

yeah saw that after commenting. Sorry, and thankyou!

        • +1

Watchdogs 2 was ok, FFXV didn't however. :(

          • @OzGuy93: Sorry mate, I did update my post at the top - the guy who said FFXV specified that it was for the Xbox 1 version, am I right to assume you tried with the PS4 version? Not that makes me feel any better, I should have been more clear in my original post.

Sorry I deceived you by accident mate :(

  • Is the $10 before trade and world bonus is applied or after?

  • I'm not sure if it works for $10 games, but it certainly did work for me recently for the $5 and over trade for Vbux deal EB had recently.
I looked through a search of webuy.com (CEX entertainment exchange stores) then did a search of my stores closeby (their are 3 in illawarra) … then filtered search to sort from lowest price 1st .. Then I went through the games which I could buy for $5 at CEX, which seemed like decent (and likely sold for a bit more at EB) titles.
CEX has a different algorithm/method for pricing than EB' algorithm, so I was able to pick up a few titles at buy price of $5 at CEX that had a sell price of $6 at EB games. I think the best was bought from CEX $6 and sold/traded at EB games, so dont expect any huge profits.
Once I found a few titles online from CEX which I would maybe buy at Cex then trade with EB (they have buy/sell prices and what is in stock at every store on their website, easily searchable) then I got that shortlist, and phoned EB , said I have a few games I am considering trading, could you please let me know regarding trade values. Note: even the stores that refused to give values over the phone, once I explained that I wanted to check if they were accepted for the current offer (games over $5 that deal was) then they still wouldn't give me exact prices, but they checked to see if they were valid for that deal and let me know which games were over the $5 threshold required. They should be fine with telling you which games are over $10 , since it is a requirement of the deal.
Note: if you do not have a CEX store nearby, its probably not worth it for you, as they charge $3 per item postage per item/game they post out to you, and if the game has to travel from another state by post, it can take over a week.

  • +2

Are we allowed to use the no regret offer with this? i.e. trade in games worth $10 or more, but after the trade, immediately buy one or both back?

If yes, wouldn't that essentially turn the offer into $49 for RDR 2? The difficulty would be finding 2 games that's worth $10 each (or close to).

    • Yup. Just called a store to confirm this.

Edit: Any game you trade in with this deal will have a value of $25 or more for buyback. So if you trade two $10 games, the no regret buyback price will be $25 each.

  • I just got $30 each for assassin's Creed origins and Farcry 5 from cash converters.

Why would you trade in any games EB wants when you would be paying almost $89 for Red dead?

    This is a bad deal.

    • +8

      Your cash converters is generous.

    • Wow - EB is trading AC:O for between $10 and $15. Would be a bit more with +25% trade bonus obviously.

      • yesterday I traded in my PS4 AC Origins at EB n got $29 credit (thats before the EB world bonus as well).

  • I've been searching in the comments but still can't find an answer.

Would this work if let's say you have 3 games which can be traded for a value of $20?

I actually have a few games laying around which i no longer want to keep.

    • +1

      No.

Each has to be worth $10 or more.

    • Only way around it is that if you have 2 other games which can be traded in for $10 each. You trade in all 5 games, then use the $20 from those 3 games to buy back those 2 games (via no regret offer). Thing is, finding games which have trade in value of $10 each is difficult (and the chance of you wanting to keep them might be low). If you use games which are $16-$19 each, then the cost of the buy back is too high.

    • What I did to get the game essentially for free was to find two $10 trade in games, then trade in the rest of the value of the game ($29) with cheap, old crappy games that we'd never use again and have no value on eBay for example.

  • I have Witcher 3 and sunset overdrive on xbox, anyone traded those?

Also have horizon zero dawn, but id prefer to get rid of the xbox games as I sold my xbox one and all games except those two because I couldn't find them at the time so they're just hanging around

  • Thanks OP this works (EB Games, Southport QLD). I traded Dying Light and Watchdogs 2. They were going to let me trade No Mans Sky but it is a UK edition so no go. The way it works is that approved games traded in for $25 credit instead of the usual credit. This is against base cost for RDR2 of $79. In theory I guess you could trade one game at $25 and pay $54? Anyway, I took about 10 games in and got them to pick the 2 oldest/cheapest that worked.

    • Did you preorder the game? Or does the credit just go on your account?

  • Wait, I'm confused with the wording of this. If I trade in 2 games that are $10 value each do I get RDR2 FOR $29 or get a $29 trade credit?

    • You get RDR2 for $29.

You won't get any extra credit as EB would boost each game's initial trade-in value to match the $29.

      • What's so bad about this deal then?

        • I thought it was a good deal myself, just like the Black Ops 4 deal with the same terms.

  • Traded Halo Master Chief and Far Cry 4 in for this deal, two games I'd struggle to sell for $10 each. This, on top of trading Fifa 18 and Mad Mad (for BO4), two other games I'd struggle to sell for $10 each. It's definitely one of EB's better deals.

  • I brought in 11 games and 5 of them were eligible.

    State of decay (x1)
    Dead rising 4 (x1)
    Just Cause 3 (x1)
    Dark souls 3 (x1)
    Fifa 18 (ps4)

Just for anyone who owns these games and wants to do this trade in deal.

    • Just Cause 3 PS4?

  • Brought 4 PS4 -
    No man's sky
    fallout 4
    assassins creed unity
    Horizon zero dawn one sky

    Had to pay $11.

    • Oh wow. So 2 of those games traded in to get RDR2 FOR $29 then you used the other 2 towards the $29 to get it to $11?

      • Yep that works, even with the oldest, crappiest games you can find. Find $29 $1 games and get it for free.

  • +1

I took FIFA 18 ($11) and For Honor ($13) in to get the $29 offer. Good deal.

  • Has anyone tried trading in the Nintendo Labo game cartridge (without the cardboard)? Curious to see if they accept that as a valid trade-in.
