  • My E480 has a 2.5" HDD spot. Am I able to add an SSD instead?

    • Yes, 2.5" is the standard size for HDD/SSD.

  • 1 of each? or 1 of either?

    • 1 of each

wtf was the point in the voting if you where just going to go both of them?

Has anyone Toad you that you're just pain good at puns?

Not very familiar with this Intel model but after a quick Google it appears to be roughly equivalent to, if not slightly better than, a Kingston A400 or Sandisk Plus. And much better than a WD Green.

So this looks like a good price for a 128GB drive, thanks OP.

    • Above WD Blues and below Samsung then?

      • +1

WD Blues don't come in 128GB, so there's no direct comparison. I haven't looked at 1TB.

I would say this is roughly equivalent to the newer WD Blue 3D NAND, if it was available in this size (pure guesstimate).

Although another big advantage is 5 yr warranty on the Intel, which you don't tend to see with budget SSDs. This is pretty much perfect for me to revive an old lappy to keep in the garage.

Intel is better than any of those brands you just listed, because they're Intel and they along with Micron and Samsung are the only three SSD manufacturers who own their own fabrication plants and produce their own NAND chips. They're the ones actually pouring resources into R&D for NAND design and improvements.

Everyone else, ala WD, Kingston or Sandisk is just re-badging NAND and storage controllers from other manufactures.

The 545S series have been around for a while and they're backed by a 5 year warranty. Certainly not the speediest SSDs on the market (not even when they launched) but historically Intel SSDs have always been about endurance and stability over performance.

  • Really nice!
Free Delivery as well. (at lest for me)
    And support was super nice.
A +1 to Charlize for the super support.

What if trumpy and kimmy decide to do the boom boom? maybe you won't see the comment in 2024 after all.

    dang it, i still got 2x 120gb uv400

but these are better with 5yrs intel warranty

  • +3

    I don't need this, I don't need this…

    Stuff it ordered anyway.

    Thanks OP!

  • +1 for $200 SSD :O

  • +2

Cheers OP! Got myself a 128GB one. Chuck it in an enclosure and it'll make a pretty solid small external drive.

  • Hi rep,
Can you beat the current Samsung 860 deals for 1tb?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/409736

  • I have been looking for a <$30 SSD to get my Hackintosh up and running.

  • Wow stocks are getting low. Glad I got one. Not sure what I'll do with it but thanks OP.

  • Ordered…thanks!

  • How does this compare with the Samsung Evo 860?

    • +1

The 128GB one is substantially slower in synthetic benchmarks, especially for writes. But most people probably won’t notice the difference in the real world.

The 1TB one is slower than the 1TB Evo by not by as much.

      • Seems like an accurate summary, after checking out the benchmarks.

They both seem to be great drives @ great prices currently.

    • Good luck getting an EVO for anywhere near 30 dollars lol. It's a better drive but this one has much better value for money.

  • Just missed out

    • The 128GB Intel seems much worse again. Oh well for $29.xx I can find something to do with it.

  • Damn, missed it!

  • Any chance we'll get 2TB SSD's on special?

  • Hopefully next deal is 860EVO 120gb for $29

    • +4

The smallest capacity 860 Evo is 250GB, so I doubt it.

  • All sold out now. Thankfully I was able to resist the temptation.

It seems like the prices will continue to drop and I for one love trying to catch a falling knife.

  • +1

    Damn! Missed out :(

  • Hi,
If anyone willing to part with his purchase without immediate need, pls let me know. I have a home laptop where the hdd is making noise and could benefit from replacing with an ssd.
    Thanks!

    • Samsung Evo 860 1TB around the traps for about $10-15 more, and they are worth the extra cash. $212 at MSY last I checked but they often come down to $210 on special at other places.
