ah yes the new LGBT tech, still gets turned on when we plug a male into a male

    • Lol, I wonder does it get HOT?

  • Nice unit, but the amperage really needs to be quoted @ 25% duty cycle!!

  • Im a welding noob.

Literally started learning last week from a professional welder mate.

So if i read correctly, this does stick and tig?

Would any tradies out there suggest this?

I was originally looking for a gasless mig, but my mate recons "stick will beat any gasless mig on the planet if you buy good sticks" .

Edit: just planning on doing exhaust pipes and cutting/sealing rust holes

    • For thin material I think MIG is what you are after.

    • For repair work and such Tig is generally the better option, MIG is better for fabrication. At first look, I would be a bit dubious of this one due to the low duty cycle.

Even if you're not looking to do continuous welding, low duty cycle implies its probably not solid enough to last.

Personally have used a briefcase one from these guys https://www.magnumwelders.com.au/Arc-Welders.html
the 200amp one. Had it for 5 years doing all sorts of bits and pieces, fencing, truck repairs, welding up RHS, and its been great. But that has a 100% duty cycle rating at 150amps. not 15% at 140.

    • For doing that work you would probably want to get into gas MIG. Much higher outlay but you would be using tiny sticks and still blowing holes through most sheet without a lot of practice. Gasless MIG is king of "a lot of good enough welds". Stick is king of heavy duty welding, which is hard with a low duty cycle.

This welder would tackle welding up a workbench from bunnings 1.6mm rhs using 1.5mm electrodes on lower amps pretty well, and other light duty, non-critical tasks.

  • No tig torch included, so this is just a cheap arc welder.

  • So, I was going to buy a second hand 140A TRANSARC stick welder $50.

All I really want to do is stick mild Steel.

Would this be a better way to go?

    • I think so, whatever is easy for you.

  • How does this compare to other YUM CHA welder in that price range

  • Also available on eBay for same price, so with the 5% coupon P5OFF it comes down to $94.05 + $7.95 post

Still not sure how good a product it is, but that's a cheap welder!

      Except it's $90 not $99. Would be cheaper if you need 2 though with 20% off 2nd coupon PACK20. $99+79.2+7.95 / 2 = $93.08 vs. $97.95.
