Are those antennae on the phone? Do they also flip open?

    • Geez, I hope so, otherwise the antenna won't last long against a 385 gram body

  • Im happy with this

    edit: review

This phone looks so unusual that it got me googling. Here's an interesting find: it was successfully crowdfunded on indiegogo.

    • +2

That is very interesting…. A good read.

  • I don't need this…my current phone is doing fine:

    • Yeah. Except there is no more 2g in australia. So what phone are you actually using?

  • -4

    Nice battery, otherwise garbage

    • +6

How is it garbage? Decent specs and a reasonable price, plus it's virtually indestructible.

      • gotta agree seems pretty great for alot of people

  • +4

    10,000mAh battery, holy shit

    • +2

Makes you realise how crappy all those phones with 3000mAh are…

      • +1

They're also half the size (and weight) :) but agreed, next phone I'm getting will be at least 4000mAh

  • +1

Is there a genital on top of phone?

    • +2

      How else would they reproduce?

    • I think the word you seek is phallus

  • I think that replicate "the Bird".

  • +2

Lol thought it was a CB there for a minute.

    • +3

It has a radio built in, unfortunately it's 400-470MHz so misses out on our CB band.

      • Dunno y u would even consider wanting the UHF CB Band, let alone in ur phone..

Only useful purpose is to gain entry into roadside demolition/building sites..

Does cover the 70cm Amateur band tho, which is nice in a phone, now that i would use :)

        • Only useful purpose is to gain entry into roadside demolition/building sites..

If you go on multi-car road trips, convoys, hikes, often, it might be handy.

Dunno, nowadays wouldn't you want something with DMR or D-Star?

          • @eug: I dont use Digital.. Prefer voice modes…

I was referring to UHF in Sydney (+ other metro areas), nothing more…

& a heads-up - unless u hold an Amateur licence, I wouldn’t recommend using ANY frequency the phone covers (besides phone calls obviously), as its a Federal offence to do so… Unless it only does like 50-100mW… Didn’t read the specs for the phone… But that wont get u far, distance wise…

They're digital voice modes. Breathes some life into a dying hobby. :)

This looks like my kinda "cool". Gonna get one.

Looks like a walkie Talkie over

    • +6

Stop holding the button down after you talk. Over.

  • Never heard of it, but sounds very cool! Assuming antenna is simply screwed in and can be removed, but I'm sure that would be the case considering it looks like a lot of thought went into this.

Edit: can't see thickness, but some photos seems to indicate it's a proper brick though 🙂

    • looks like the antenna is used for intercom

Their product page has this enticing comment:

    Open Wonder Android 8.1 Oreo™
Smarter, faster, more powerful and sweeter than ever. The world's favorite cookie helps BV9500 Pro achieve the most floating experience you ever seen.

That wins it for me. Gotta get me the most floating experience ever!

Weight: 385g. My iPhone X which I consider heavy is 170g.
Well this phone is maybe for construction workers or something

    • +1

170 grams is not heavy….but this has 3-4 times the battery capacity, and some serious reinforcement in the frame, so the extra weight makes sense.

      • +2

Binging Netflix and holding phone in the air, trust me it gets there.

        • +2

Would Googling Netflix make it better?

  • Not to be confused with the dashcam manufacturer Blackvue?

    • their name looks to be the same font.

  • +3

I bought one just for the fun of it. I'm actually quite happy with my Moto X4 but damn man… a walkie talkie built in? I wanted to buy two so I could use it to talk to my friends, but I don't have any.

    • +1

      hey its me your friend

  • there are currently 3 brands in this rugged smartphone race. blackview, doogee and ulefone. these companies are trying to dominate the market by cloning each other. price, stock levels and customer service is the about the only thing that sets them apart.

    http://ulefone.com/index.php armor 3t
    https://www.doogee.cc/ s80 series
    http://www.blackview.hk/ bv9500 pro

    • Don't forget the CAT S60 and S61. Their selling point is the integrated thermal camera.

They also have "normal" rugged phones as well.

For a smaller form factor, there's the Unihertz Atom too.

At the upper end of the market, there's the Panasonic Toughbook T1, although that's a very niche product with its integrated barcode scanner.
