Each to their own but I’m loving my pod!

    • Can you elaborate please. I am 100% apple but I can't justify this. Also I use siri a lot.

Sure, it’s definitely only worth the asking price for those invested in Apples ecosystem - especially Apple Music. I love the sound quality and Siri functionality (which has improved with recent updates). The speaker is discrete and just works without any hiccups in my experience.

I bought 2 (got them for $399 ea) and have them set up to my apple TV.

The sound is very good. But… Too often I have to direct the sound back to the HomePods. And I think they go to sleep and then won't respond to Siri commands. Unless I'm downstairs asking siri on the phone, the the homepod thinks it hears the command and goes "ummm" and overrides the iPhone. Apple still has some work to do. I'm thinking of getting an Atmos system for the TV and place the pods elsewhere (unlinked)

So in summary - I'm happy, just not ecstatic.

        • This is why I think I should wait. Maybe for pod version 2 or something. I struggle even with my iphone and iwatch everytime i say "hey siri" they both respond.

i opted for a Bose soundlink 360 as I can also take it places (long battery life). And is sounds really nice what what it is. And it also responds to siri, but i need to push down a button in order for it to listen.

@pitufon: When I invoke siri and my phone is close by, siri flashes for a second on the phone but then the Homepod takes over. All in all this is how it works and it is reliable.

I use it a lot for home automation, so it is good to be able to either talk to the homepod or, late at night, whisper to my phone to turn the lights off and both work as intended.

I do think the issue glenn955 is happening is due to two homepods not working correctly together, my experience with one homepod is spot on.

@pitufon: Do you have them both on the same account etc? The way Siri usually works when it picks you up via multiple devices, is to quickly choose one to take the command and back out of Siri on the others. It usually happens instantly. The HomePod will usually take priority unless you’ve already got your other device unlocked and happen to be talking directly at it.

I can happily use “hey Siri” with my HomePod on the table next to me, as well as an iPhone & iPad on charging stands and my Apple Watch on my wrist. The HomePod will almost always be the device to respond, even though “ hey Siri” is enabled on every device.

            • @Praeto: All on the same account. I don't have a homepod, my experience with siri was from other devices. I always wondered if a device could be set as a master, but it seems the pod is that by default.

  • Got it as a gift. The only apple product I have is iPod Nano and this doesn't work with the iPod. There was no other way for me to get this working and was just a piece of fancy brick for me. Such a shame that this cannot even support it's own older products let alone other vendors.

  • Almost forgot its existence until this post. Apple is now far behind Google in terms of virtual assistance.

  • Can’t add to cart.

For what it’s worth.. I was very much against them as a product (you can see my previous posts in other HomePod deals). At the time I believed they were lacking so many fundamental features that they weren’t worth purchasing. I was also put off by the fact that an Apple Music subscription is pretty much a requirement. I ended up trying Apple Music, and loved it. I ended up purchasing a HomePod after the 12.0 release and I have definitely changed my opinion on it.

I still believe that as a product it is incomplete. They’re constantly adding new features (like the ability to do stereo) which it should have had at launch. However the sound from them is amazing, and the mics are excellent as well. I have my entire house setup with HomeKit devices and with HomePods spread around the house (I have 4), I can control my HomeKit devices by speaking at a normal volume almost anywhere in the house. Siri is excellent on this device, so much better than on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. It makes me seriously believe that half of Siri’s problems are the mics on the other devices. On the HomePod the mic will pick me up even when I’m not in the room, or facing it. I have actually replaced my Bluetooth headsets and VOIP phone with a HomePod for my home office and it has been a surprisingly big improvement.

They’re still not perfect for everyone, but if you’re already heavily invested in Apple and you’re willing to sign up for Apple Music, they’re a good device. I should add that since buying these and the addition of the new “shortcuts” app to IOS, I use Siri 50+ times per day and it’s been brilliant. I’d be surprised if it messed up more than once out of 2 - 3 hundred requests.

    • I can't get enough of the new "shortcuts" functionality. It has increased my siri usage ten fold.

  • glenn955 & pitufon, do notice any reverb with your speakers? what’s with the “the the” and the “what what” in your sentences?

  • Sorry we can’t find the item you’re looking for - why you no find?

    Edit: nevermind, it’s tomorrow lol

    • Nope sale ends midnight tonight, listings have been taken down. Marked as expired.

      • Oh darn it - ok. Thank you for the update!
