Bang 4 Buck Upgrade from 7950

My 7950 is dead.

What is the best bang for buck upgrade at the moment, or should I hold off a little later.

Seems like i would need to aim for 1060 / 580 to be considered an upgrade.

Dont game much (very casual), just need something to drive 3 aging displays (1 monitor 2560x1600 res) on a i7 930 from 8 years ago :) I was pretty happy with my 7950 until it died.

very tempting. I remember when I first got my 7950 I swore I would get a nVidia next due to constant driver crashes at the time but havent had driver issues for a few years now under ATI/AMD. I crave driver stability more than anything else :P

      • Was going to say, the 580 is currently one of the (if not THE) best value cards available.

        • gutt feeling is 580 is the current sweet spot.. any chances of further price drops within the next 6 months ? I probably want to get back into *nix, it seems everyone is in favour of amd drivers.

          • @Dr Techno: There will always be price drops in the next X months due to new models being released.

If you're happy with the price right now, then go for it.

            • @psyren89: true. currently checking out BSD support. looking at getting back into *nix.

  • I would search gumtree… seen some pretty good deals on there lately like a $350 titan x and a $400 1080

    • I probably prefer to buy new, since dunno the history. ha my current card died since I didnt give a regular clean.. heat related death.

      • That so true..huge gamble I am just sometimes the gambler type sometimes so thought to input it in.

Ah damn so it is not salvageable at all?

I remember the 7950 really great value card.

        • 7950 was a amazing card for the price, I would still be using it today if it didnt die. Ive already phoenixed it once with my hotair rework station which lasted for 3 months. (internal gpu issue) but now screen blacker than black.

  • My 7950 died a few months ago and upgraded to the GTX 1060, great card. AMD 580 is cheaper so it'll probably suit you.
