ASUS Radeon RX 580 ROG Strix TOP Edition 8GB Video Card $299 C&C (or + $11.99 Delivery) @ DeviceDeal

840

C&C is only available at their VIC store or $11.99 nationwide delivery otherwise. First time this card went under $300? Lowest posted before was $284.10 delivered. Next cheapest is $351.20 delivered using eBay's current 20% off coupon.
You can also take part in AMD's "Raise the Game" promotion, even though they are not listed as a participating reseller. I contacted their customer service, and they said a code will be included inside the box regardless. There's also about 40 units left, according to cs.
In terms of performance, I believe it's equivalent to and in some cases better than a 1060 6GB, great for 1080p and even 1440p gaming.

Great Deal. Have been looking around for an Rx 580 8GB, and this one is definitely one of the better ones out there for this card.

    Thanks OP!

  • -6

According to benchmarks, the 1060 6GB is still ahead of the 580 by a decent bit, but still an awesome price given the 1060 6gb is about 50-80$ more.

    https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB-vs…

    • +2

Do you think its worth the extra 50$ for the 1060?

      • +1

Depends if your budget allows for it and what you use it for. I have a 1060 that I bought for $350, and I'm very happy with it, but the advantage to the RX is you can take advantage of FreeSync if your monitor supports it, which you cannot do with NVIDIA cards

      • +2

Depending on your resolution and desired frame rate

      • +2

for $50 more (~$350) you can get a second hand GTX1070
I bought an ex-mining card and was in fantastic condition.
warranty might be a bit of an issue though

    • +7

I'd say that the difference if fairly negligible to be honest. Both cards have their pros and cons, but Rx 580 is slightly cheaper and great for FreeSync monitors.

    • +18

The benchmarks you linked there averages both 4gb and 8gb cards for Rx 580, most reviews for 8gb cards has the Rx 580 a few % ahead of 1060

    • +5

      https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2018-10-22…

This is a recent comparison between the two.
The RX580 beats out the 1060 in most of the titles tested however, not by much.

    • +13

How is 2% a "fair bit"?
      That's within margin of error.

    • That site includes the 4GB RX580s (which have slower VRAM) with the 8GB models but separates the 1060s. It also only tests DX9 and I think maybe 10.1 but doesn't test lower lvl APIs or DX11 which are used in most games today.

    Good value.

Just bought one. It says in the description that they leave a piece of paper in the parcel with the amd raise the game code. Thanks for the post OP!

  • +1

    Damn it, I just bought a second-hand RX580…

Does anyone know how this compares to the Sapphire RX580 NITRO+ Special Edition 8GB?

    • The card you purchased is def better. But it's a question of how much better does it need to be?

    • Sapphire makes really good AMD cards, they are actually one of the best AIBs to consider when you're looking at AMD Gpus

      • Well that's comforting; I just got a second-hand Sapphire RX580 NITRO+ at cheaper than this price, so I had a slight "buyers remorse".

I just figured this ASUS Strix one was better because people have been raving about it (and I believe it's quite a bit newer compared to the Sapphire NITRO+, which has been discontinued). I'm guessing maybe they're trying to push out the Pulse range from now?

    • They're roughly comparable from what I know, pretty sure the Sapphire is slightly quieter but slightly hotter. But I'd personally take that trade off. Otherwise, Sapphire, Asus and XFX make the best 580 cards from my understanding.

  • Hi guys

    1. Is this a decent upgrade from a gtx970 g1 4gb?
    2. Compatible with an i54690k?
    3. Recently ordered a 144hz/freesync UHD monitor from the Kogan deal posted not long ago - would this card be a good choice for it, given the monitor is freesync?

    Thanks!

    • +3
      1. It's an upgrade, but not a big one. In games that use more than 3.5-4GB VRAM, or newer Vulkan/DX12 titles, it might pull ahead a fair bit. But overall 1080p gaming won't be that much better, about 20% or so (source: I own a GTX 970 and have considered the RX 580)

      2. Yes, so long as you have the room in your case and a PSU to handle it, which you should do coming from a G1 GTX 970.

      3. It would be a great choice if you have a freesync monitor. That's where you will really notice the difference between the RX 580 and GTX 970. The sync tech is nice, and will make games feel a lot smoother, especially at lower framerates like 60FPS or below.

      • Really appreciate the feedback mate. I’ll have to decide if I bite the bullet for the upgrade.

        • I have the same CPU and GPU as you and I'm not going to "upgrade" to a RX 580 from my 970.

          • +1

@Crownie: Fair enough mate. I also have almost the exact same CPU and GPU as Mickyd, and at this price I'm going to upgrade then repurpose the 970 in another machine needing an upgrade. The 970 is a great card but the RX 580 suits my needs better in many other ways than just the smallish performance bump.

E.g Freesync support on the screen it will be hooked up to, 4K Netflix streaming support, better performance at 4K due to much larger and faster VRAM, bigger and better cooler, consistently improving performance in newer titles and newer API's etc. Not to mention I was considering buying two of the three free games included which essentially brings the price down even further for me.

For plenty of people the upgrade ain't worth it, but for me it is. It was either this or buy a $200 RX 570 4GB for another machine I have that needs an upgrade. It serves me much better to spend an extra $100, get a better card in my current machine which suits my needs better, and repurpose the 970 in the other machine which would match the 570 for performance.

      • Decided to grab the deal. Since I just bought the 1440p/140hz freesync monitor, it’s a worthwhile change. Others noted the 4K Netflix support as well which will get significant use as well, not to mention the other card features. I’ll sell the gtx970 to recoup some of the “upgrade” cost. It is an upgrade, albeit a smallish one but it should be worthwhile.

        Thank you all.

    • I wouldn't say it is worth upgrading form a 970 to an rx 580. Unless you want to get a freesync monitor than go for it but I believe the rx 580 would only be marginally better than the 970 hardly worth an upgrade.

  • How does this card perform on a 1440p monitor?

    • +4

good for maintaining 60fps at high setting

    • Good but not for 144hz or 120hz…however i tried aorus 8gb/4gb which are slightly slower…. if its a samsung, proper overclocking will give massive boost.
Notice that its better to use this card at 1440p and get the memory "packed" otherwise the 4gb 580 tends to be faster at 4gb (memory controller peaks when the full memory is filled sort of mechanism)

  • +4

Don't think it is the first time under $300. It was $284 Here but good price nonetheless. Especially when it includes the Raise the Game promotion.

  • is this any good for 4k video editing? your thoughts?

    • +1

If you're talking about rendering etc, the CPU makes the biggest difference.

    • Depends on the suite (and the platform) you’re using as well. FCPX on MacOS would fly on this card, Premier not so much.

  • Damn. This and a free sync 🐥 could be my first big change for a few years… Gpus have sucked for price!

  • Was hoping for a sub $500 Vega 64 after the 20 series launch. I checked and the Vega 64 was around $500 USD on launch may 2017. Is this the first GPU generation to hold prices?

    • There's a bunch of reasons why the price hasn't come down to lesser than MSRP levels. Mostly it has to do with the vendor cash grab — people have been waiting for a long time for video cards to come down in price, however amount of stock available to buy for certain cards is actually pretty low. There are loads of 1080p midrange cards, but not a great number of high end ones.

They jack up prices because there's a pretty healthy demand and there's no reason to sell for less margin.

Nvidia screwed up the RTX launch so Nvidia users go back to buying GTX 1080 Ti's since they're better value; however, Radeon RX 580 cards don't compete for 1440p and 4K gaming: so the next best thing is Vega 56 / 64.

Vega however uses HBM2 memory is which is even more expensive than GDDR5 memory, and the high prices of DRAM isn't helping much either for Nvidia's pascal series.

2019 is when we will see the next 'successor' to Polaris / Vega but it's probably going to be mostly mid-range cards at launch, according to rumours

      • That's what it seems like. I looked at retail prices in Malaysia and Singapore as well and they seem the same. Even Taiwan, where the chips are made. All the same or worse on retail sites. So yeah, seems like the manufacturer's are holding prices. My idea was group buying of say ten gpus for a better price. Or send someone to the US…

        • Or send someone to the US…

I'll go for you, for free, if you pay for my flights and 2 nights accommodation.

  • +3

I have ordered from these guys before. Customer service was very friendly and prompt. Best prices going around on these cards.

I wonder if they're getting rid of these to make way for the rumoured RX 590's or 600 series cards.

    • dude, grab one …. I do mine, the new "confirmed" GPUs have more of a powerful core but exact same memory … barely reduction to 12nm will give you +15% core speed or power consumption savings, if they launch in November never gonna be near 300 aud……

  • Is this the card with the thermal pad issue? Or was it the Vega series?

  • +2

Much of an upgrade over a Sapphire Radeon R9 390 Nitro 8GB?

    Thank you.

    • +1

      No, not really.

    • at all…. I wouldn't upgrade this behemoth unless i go over for 1070ti or equivalent

  • High Frequency Noise whenever under load. Someone even said it is unbearable. And it seems it is a common issue.

    • +1

Is this your personal experience, or anecdotal? Anyone else who owns this card has experienced this coil whine? It is mentioned in the Guru3D review too

      https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_radeon_rx_580_str…

      • I had one these and the fans got really loud during gaming but there was no coil whine.
Returned the Asus Strix card and got a Sapphire card which was much quieter under the same load.

  • Great deal. I bought this for $600 during the mining craze…

  • Just bought one! Thanks OP!

  • +2

Bought one, will test over the weekend and report back.

    Thanks OP.

  • +1

Tested with a few games I play, and also with furmark. Did not hear any coil whine under load.

However, the PC kept losing power when the card is under full load, I suspect that the 8 pin cable on my 750W PSU was not supplying enough juice. It's a 2006 Vintage PSU, so I guess it's time to upgrade it.

Lowered the graphics settings and all is good so far.

    • The design on the old PSU usually only supply 1/3 -1/2 watts on 12V.

    • You can probably undervolt the card using AMD Wattman tool, drop the voltages on State 6 and State 7 to 1030 and 1050 mV respectively.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/79bgdl/rx_580_undervol…

You can also turn on frame rate target control (FRTC), otherwise known as Chill in the driver settings, and set the target frame rate to whatever rate your monitor runs at. So if you're using a 60hz monitor, lower the FPS to 60 so that your GPU won't waste energy trying to pump out more frames than your monitor can handle.

  • Is it a guaranteed Samsung memory?

  • +1

Looks like this is back on sale for $299.

  • This card vs a GTX 1060 3gb variant?

  • damn! this is back in stock. wonder if I should get this to replace my dead 7950.
