[WA, VIC, NSW, QLD, SA] Free Screening of 'Boy Erased' - 6.45pm Monday 5 November 2018 @ Selected Palace Cinemas

220

We’ve joined forces with Universal Pictures and Palace Cinemas to bring you a pre-release screening of Boy Erased, the new film by Writer, Director & Co-Star Joel Edgerton, starring Academy Award® nominee Lucas Hedges, and Academy Award® winners Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, in their first on-screen collaboration.

The film tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity and is based on the memoir of Garrad Conley.

This is a free event, to attend please RSVP. If you are unable to attend please remove your RSVP so someone else may take your spot.

  • Is this the sequel to Erase Her ??

I guess an actual movie title in a similar vein would have been Gone Girl

      • I think it's a reimagining of Girl, Interrupted.

  • Similar to…. "Boy with apple" :-)

    • Billy Elliot?

      • Grand Budapest Hotel

Is it "Oscar Bait" season again already? :-)

    • +1

Oh come on! Some of my favourite movies have been oscar bait. Its not necessarily a pejorative.
Nothing wrong with making a movie that the experts like. I'd much rather this than another Marvel/DC movie.

They can still sell out for the sequel — Boy Erased 2: Gender War

  • +2

Was lucky enough to be invited to an advanced screening of this. Touching story, but certainly skimmed over how horrific and abusive conversion therapy actually is. People can be such asses towards anyone different from them.

    • +1

It's biographical. Maybe this guy didn't go through the horrific/super abusive ones?

  • attend a conversion therapy program

What kind of conversion? I don't understand what the movie is about - sexuality, religion, or both.

    • Conversion therapy usually refers to therapy that aims to convert gays to straight
