What is the advantage of this over hero 7?

    • +2

      The serve different purposes.

      • -4

Like, Hero 7 is removable, this one is stuck and invites smashed window?

        • +1

          ?

These Blackvues can be removed from the mount.

    • A few ppl used to use the dashcams and go pro interchangeably in the early days, that has since stopped but no restriction. Power it up with a usb battery and u are good to go.

    • +1

This is a car dash cam. Hero 7 is an action cam.

  • +7

Wow, $560 sitting on your dash. Where did you say you park your car again?

  • Why not get the car model for only $503.20? The one you have listed is the truck model with the external camera.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Blackvue-DR650S-2Ch-64Gb-Dual-Da…

    • I think you've linked to an older model though. OP has the 750S here

      • This the only other 750S they have listed which is the one with the IR LEDS, you should be able to turn them off to use it as a rear facing camera.

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BlackVue-DR750S-2CH-IR-Dash-Cam-…

        $543.20.

The one that OP has linked to it is not suitable for car installation unless you want to mount the camera on the outside of the car.

        • yours is a ride share version, usable for Uber etc

  • -3

if I have to pay $560 up front, I'd rather risk it and pay the excess when ( and OR IF) something happens.
OR maybe just get something that is priced better i.e less than $150.
It's a damn shame today, but anyone that has been through litigation less than around $2-3000 knows it's not worth all your time.
Even with a recording, sometimes it's just not worth all the hassle. It's a shame though.
A magistrate once told me back in 2003 that you cannot use any recordings as evidence unless you have approval from the other party to record at the time. ?? wtf… Not sure how true that is today though.
Maybe i'm just lucky, but i haven't had an accident for over 15 years, and probably well over half a dozen accidents between 17-25 y.o.
    I drive 60-63km/h in a 60 and 100-104km/h in a 100 Zone, I think that helps… even with idiots on the road.
Some you wonder how they got their licence, or who they paid to be more precise.
And true, if you leave one of these in the car, I'm sure it will be up for sale on Gum-tree in a few weeks.

    • +2

Recordings are generally provided to the insurance company to sort out.

    • +7

I don't think you know what you're talking about. These aren't just for accidents, they are also for when you aren't in your car or to prove you weren't speeding/jumping reds.

      Don't spread your ignorance.

  • -2

Oof that's a lot to spend!

  • -2

This is only suitable for Lamborghini or Ferraris.

Too expensive for my 10k budget car

    • +3

It really isn’t. For those of us that are younger and have a higher excess, it is definitely worth having. I’ve got the Thinkware F770, similar features to the this one and whilst at work, was involved in a hit and run. With the parked recording footage, I was able to sort it out with insurance and didn’t have to fork out $2000 in excess.

      • +2

Exactly this. I'm not even a younger driver but I have set my excess at over 1k. This means even a Thinkware dual camera setup is worth considering when even one simple hit and run makes it all worthwhile.

      • One may get four a119 and capture 640° for a similar price to the DR750S-2CH.

        • +1

True, I have a A119S with Vivo PowerPlus in my own car myself but it doesn't have an automatic parking mode. I recall parking mode was added via firmware update awhile ago and unless I'm mistaken, it required manually switching into and out of parking mode.

Also, running 2 individual dashcams for front and rear is not as convenient, imo, compared to a dedicated dual dashcams setup since footage is not in sync.

          • +1

@Gimcrack: The a119s has automatic parking mode. We power the front with a xiaomi 20ah power back. The rear a119s get power from the 12v in the boot.

            • @whooah1979: Oh, so the parking mode is automatic. Thanks for telling me that, whooah1979.

Just wondering, with the Xiaomi power bank, if you drive your car daily, do you take the power bank out each day to charge it back up? Also, how do the batteries in the power bank hold up in the Summer? I'm concerned about the long-term when the car is parked not undercover for the entire day.

I am looking at getting a power bank and the Cellink Neo is on my list but it is costly.

              • @Gimcrack: We swap the xiaomi power banks every 36 hours to 48 hours. They may last >48 hours if we disconnect the gps. The power banks are located under the glove box in two bubble bags to reduce shock and heat.

        • Not sure about the updated models but I had two of the original A119 (with GPS). The first one faced a glitch where it would say it's recording but wasn't within the first few months of use. Got sent a replacement months later, (which I still have) and constantly restarts.

I've had the G1WC, A118, A119 and now F770. The F770 is by far, the most reliable. I did pay a premium for it (~$350 for F&R) but the convenience, additional features and reliability is worth it.

Also, how does it do parked recording when it's plugged into a power bank and can't detect when the vehicle is off? I'm genuinely curious.

          • @Kelvin H.: Unsure if whooah1979's Xiaomi power bank is the same but with the Cellink Neo, the three required wires for parking mode from the dashcam are connected to the Cellink Neo and the Cellink Neo itself would be powered/charged by plugging into the cigarette socket or hardwired to the car.

            • @Gimcrack: That makes sense. The current set-up I have is the same, one for constant, ignition and ground. When the car is on, it will start it's normal recording and when the car is off, it will draw power from the constant line in a lower power state until a specified voltage is reached. Only difference is there's no battery in between like the Cellink Neo.

If it's just a direct power bank connected to the camera, I'm not sure it would work. I had previously used this method however, it just became inconvenient having to recharge the power bank each time.

  • 4k version is out

    • I have linked to that in the post, this one is better specially no remarkable difference at night which is where you gain when spending so much money over a cheapie 30 d0llar one from Gearbest etc. Also new one has temp issues

  • This is front and rear camera.
IIRC, Autobarn was selling them at a discount a while back.
You could get the front only for around 300-350
Its supposed to be a great camera, but you can always cheapen up and get something from fleabay.

    • -1

Its supposed to be a great camera, but you can always cheapen up and get something from fleabay.

      This is from ebay.

  • +1

For that price I can buy like 15 xiaomi 70 mai’s And hook them all over the car .

    • Can they be hooked up to sync with each other or are they treated as seperate cameras?

    • +1

But you’d still be lacking the features and integration aspect offered by the Blackvue.

  • Autobarn had it for $499 even before their 20% off and was $479 when they had a 20% off sale. Probably wait until one at Christmas Eve? Heard it's going to be at least 25% off.

    • Its not available now for that price, I can say its going to be for 50% off does not make it true. Do you go back and neg all deals once items become cheaper?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/410047
The details state Excludes gift cards, GoPro, portable navigation units with built-in dash cameras, installation, gift buckets, advertised lines, in store specials & Opposite Lock ranged products."
      as per user FXD.
Also as per previous poster it was for the front one only.

      • +1

Hmmm, that's strange…I asked the salesman at the Cranbourne store when they had the 20% off last Saturday and he says that the unit is $479.

Anyway, fair enough, i guess if you really need to have this item right now, then this is probably the best deal around.

        • Sorry you are right.
Yes you are right, its cheaper at Autobarn
          https://www.autobarn.com.au/me25365
          for 499
          Edited and expired link thanks

          • +1

            @sn809: No worries. ;)
Didn't know it's still on. The sales guy whispered to me to wait till Xmas Eve. There should be a huge sales event then.

  • last week when autobarn had the 20% off, the 900s 2ch 16gb was only $570 with extra 5% and 10% ebay gift card.

    • Didn't know that Autobarn sold the 900s! :O Missed out! :'(

      • yeah was so cheap, but didn't have the money for it. :-(

  • What's the average cost to install one of these

    • Almost free if one follow instructions on YouTube.

    • Easy if you can tuck the cables or $200~ at a shop

  • This one is not the same as the normal one, it's the "Truck" version. The back cam is different
