And some are predicting SSD prices will drop by 50% again during 2019 :D \o/

      • I hope so! Cant wait to use SSDs in my NAS

        • You’ll need your NAS and desktop fitted with a 10GbE card to notice the increased transfer speeds.

          • @Cheap Rich Guy: My Server is connected with 10GbE and my raid 50 array of HDD's already max out the connection

How much longer until 2tb SSDs are under $300 do people guess?

Samsungs goal was to try and make SSDs cheaper for everyone. From 512GB being standard cheap entry all the way up to making 4TBs more affordable for everyone. They wanted a 512GB for the same price as a 1TB HDD by 2020, i.e. 512GB SSD for around $45 USD($60 AUD) from recent news it would seem they are still trying to push for cheaper SSDs so hopefully they make it.

I can't wait for 4TB at this price. I'd pay $600 tbh. I could finally go platter-free on my main machine and keep the platters for my Plex server.

I'd be replacing all hard drives inc backup with SSD when 4tb is affordable

      • If anyone can make that push it's ole mates at Samsung

        • Actually not any more. Every third party controller is more or less at the same level so everyone is making very fast SSDs now and the prices are plummeting. Samsung is not liking this because their premium is drying up.. ;)

          • @Diji1: if samsung can accomplish their goal of cheap SSDs, they can basically eclipse the HDD industry. This is probably their end goal, since they sold their HDD business to …Seagate? years ago.

    • June 2019.

  • The Micron 1100 2TB SSD is still heaps cheaper - US$282.97 (A$399)

    • Plus GST plus mail forwarding?

    • And here we are.. maybe 6-12 months after the 2tb for $400 amazon price error. And now it's normal.

(Except that you need to add GST and shipping to your price.. but we're in the ballpark)

Edit: $78USD shipping.. urk, not there yet!

  • its now getting quite cheap… i guess time has come for a better and more expensive drives :D

  • i just had my capacity increased from 500G to 3500G over the past 2 month, wth ozbargain.

This can be used inside an Xbox One S or X - making it very very fast indeed.

    • Sure, if you wanna void warranty.

      PS4 on the other hand….

    • Inside? Not in my experience. My x1 crapped itself with an internal hdd upgrade to a larger drive. It loaded the OS, but could not even install games

I doubt the x1s or x1x are any different. I'm not going to crack open my x1s to try something that just won't work

Above comment regarding warranty and ease of ps4 upgrades is totally valid

Anyone have a guide on how to replace this with my current desktop hdd and move windows etc on to it so it loads faster?

If you can't work out how to find this with Google you should strongly reconsider attempting this on your own.

Download Macrium Reflect Free edition. That will do it.

Here is a well researched guide on what you're asking for:

Claim GST back through the TRS and brings it down to $436.36 / 2TB

Tempting as I fly out again next Friday.

  • Now if someone would make some fast & reasonably priced USB-C SATA enclosures… single and RAID 0.

  • 2TB sold out.
