Harvey Norman - Mentone. Closing Down Sale - Finishes this Sunday. 20% - 30% off entire ranges.

Harvey Norman in Mentone (Vic) is closing down this coming Sunday (I believe) and they're having an 'Everything Must Go' sale. Called in on way home from work today and it was mad!!
Seems most ranges have 20% - 30% reductions. I was only looking at BBQ's so can't provide many examples, but I did see PS3's (300Gb?) deals for around the $400 mark. Also saw large fridge/freezers selling for $1500 down from close to $3k.
I'm pretty sure the shop closes this Sunday so be quick - could try calling ahead if there's something you really want.

Of course gerry's gonna blame this directly on Internet stores

One down, many more to go.

Looks like his Irish business is also going down the tubes.

This is the same site where Gerry launched his OFIS store to compete with Officeworks. When that didn't work, he put in a very small Harvey's. No wonder it is closing down. Must have streched it to get out of the lease.

The Harvey Norman Mentone store started as Gerry's competition to OfficeWorks. It failed, as did Gerry's replacement a Harvey Norman store. Gerry please give away your billions, while you still have them to give. (composed while above commented was published)

"Gerry please give away your billions, while you still have them to give."

He has openly admitted his greatest fear in life is to go broke. Biggest joker on the planet.

this was a failure site…so have most stores at this location, hence empty lots, not great access to the site either, no wonder it failed, and yes, its been plastered over the radio, ends 5pm sunday

Agreed pbywater. The parking is woefully inadequate for the number and size of the retailers on the site. Google maps shows around 120 car spaces, all shared by Harvey Norman (old Retravision site?) Rays Outdoors, Supercheap Auto, BeachHouse Fitness, some sports shop I can't see the name of, and the Subaru dealer! That's 20 car spaces each - if people who can't find a spot at Bunnings next door don't park there - and no, you can't go the other way from there to Bunnings - it's one way traffic.

Check out this real estate advert for space at this centre for a laugh - http://bit.ly/fzWVaJ

"With over 50% of this large development already pre-leased to quality retailers such as Harvey Norman…"
      Not any more…

"Access to over 850 car bays…"
Where? Do they count the traffic that's usually at a standstill on Nepean Highway as parking?

"Signalised intersection with proven Nepean Highway frontage"
There is a pedestrian crossing 25 metres away, not a traffic controlled intersection.

"The development … is planned around logical vehicle circulation and ample parking on grade."
Are these clowns talking about the same site that I've lived close to for years? The same site that is absolute traffic mayhem on any given weekend?

Love to know where those pictures in the real estate advertisement are supposed to be, certainly not Mentone :-p

  • Went down there around 12, it was super packed, all the ps3 games were gone (all console games 50% off iirc). Samsung Galaxy Tabs were 498 (2 or 3 left), which is pretty good imo, but considering the tab2 is coming out soon, maybe not so great…

No other stunning deals around, I really wanted to buy a laptop or netbook, but most had fairly minor discounts, say 100 bucks off 1200, so between 10-20% probably. I was looking at a vaio 14 incher, but I googled the price online and it was more expensive than online.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the salesperson I talked to would only take another 51 bucks off the 1080 vaio. I offered 950 and the best he could do was 1029. pretty poor effort for a closing down sale where all stock must go.

  • yep, went down on Friday nite and it was insane. Most of the stuff were gone. Funny thing is the prices werent even that good. The only decent thing I saw were Oricom DECT handsets for $9 each…grabbed 2 of those.
