  • Brand is emachines. Acer owns the emachines brand but this is not really an Acer.

Technically emachines is a brand of Gateway, a subsidiary of Acer.

    • Really? interesting. Well it says 'acer emachines' so i just repeated that - but i shall research into it further! Thanks :)

      • Yeah it's no biggie. A lot of shops advertise them as Acer because it sounds better, but not technically correct. Though they are probably both made in the same factory. I would rather own an Acer than an emachines.

        • Any reason why?

        • Just my preference. Although you can't really go wrong with the emachines for $437. What is the delivery cost? Definitely worth $79 for an extra 2 years warranty.

    • For those specifically looking for cheap machines with big brand names, there is also a Levono http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/category.php?mode=promotionā€¦

The Levono is a P6100 Core2Duo. So the CPU on the eMachines is about 50% faster and the integrated graphics chip is about 100% faster. Although the Levono is only $399, it works out to about the same price after the more expensive shipping costs from ShoppingSquare (To WA atleast). So compared this this deal you are paying the same for less. However, given that this is still really cheap for a Levono it could still be of interest to brand sensitive shoppers.

$399.95 after claiming $50 e-voucher from Flight Centre

Not really $399.95. Actually $450 + delivery. Also no HDMI.

        The P6100 is a Pentium, not C2D.

        • Ah I see. The advert is rather misleading as "You can use your e-vouchers for flights, accommodation, rental cars or activities from Flight CentreĀ®.*", so there is no "after e-voucher", unless you are able to sell the e-voucher (I am not sure it is transferable, there is a booming trade in gift cards so you might get something for it though clearly not the full $50. You could have a look on e-bay if you are into that sort of thing, but I digress)

Levono is good but you'll be ripped of buying things at shoppingsquare

  • Is the cashback only limited to the first 79 or is there 79 redemptions left left?

    • $79 cashback

        sorry misunderstood the website

  • How much is postage?

  • so we pay $595 plus shipping? then put the cupon code that bring down tuh $516 plus shipping rite?
and clain the cashback another $79 from acer ???????

any1 try to buy one already ?????

  • good luck getting the cashback from Acer!

    • what do you mean?

i got my $39 cashback from eMachine recently, easy process

      • It says you have 14 days from purchase to send invoice with SNID on it. If something happens in the process your screwed. The risk may be small, wished they would make the process more lenient.

Anyways, what do people think about these machines? Any good?

    • i've had good experiences with cashback, use registered post if you're worried.

  • Hi, is this a better laptop than the $398 gigabyte deal posted a few days ago? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/41082 Thanks.

I would recommend to get this one over the Gigabyte for sure. I honestly can't see why the Gigabyte got so many positive votes compared to this one (just because it broke the magic $400 price barrier?).

The emachines has a far better processor and graphics, larger hard drive and 6-cell battery (the Gigabyte only has a 4-cell battery). It also has Wi-Fi b/g/n while the Gigabyte only has b/g.

If you want to get good use out of it for a few years I would recommend paying the extra $79 to get a total of 3 years warranty.

Make sure to enter the coupon code "news188" at checkout to get the $79 discount. The only disadvantage is you have to go through the Acer cashback process but if you do exactly what they require it should be pretty painless (somebody said you have 14 days from date of purchase to send in invoice with SNID on it).
