Looks like a good deal. You might want to add more info though such as the rest of the specs from that link, and add to the title that it's +shipping.

    • +4

Your joking right? this thing plays 1080P YOUTUBE video's no problem! let alone opening a website… it even comes with a HDMI connection

We have 8 year old Intel Pentium 4 computers with 512mb or ram with intel intergrated graphics in the office and we havent come across a single website that they slow down on.

    • +6

I disagree. Although this computer cannot play complex games, the buyer shouldn’t expect as much. This would be perfectly capable of surfing the net, composing emails and word processing. If you want to play games or do CAD then spend more money.

I have never bought a gigabyte laptop (not sure I would) but it seems to be good value, at least on the surface.

  • Once I click the link, already back to $539 …

    • It's still $398…

    • +1

your clicking on the wrong link… i put in the OLD $539 so people could see the old price.

  • 15.6 laptop at a brilliant price & with good warranty.
    Quality brand as well!!
    A bargain @ $398!

Oh… and it will browse the internet standing on its ear.

    • Is Gigabyte a good brand? Not familiar with it.

      • I rate it better than ACER. But just

      • +2

They've been making decent motherboards for years, I never knew they made laptops tho.

      • +1

Gigabyte usually makes mobos, vid cards, gaming equipment, should be fine for laptops.

    • +1

Not a quality brand TBH (as far as laptops go, as vanilla motherboards they fair better). But there's nothing wrong with it at this price with that warranty.

  • is that a dedicated graphics card?

    • Intel® GMA 4500M
No.. Integrated Graphics… You won't find a laptop with dedicated graphics anywhere near this price!

    • +2

No Bog Standard intel GMA, so not a good laptop for 3D gaming

      • +2

Yup, its the price you pay for intergration. But you get a reduced overall price so its lose/win

  • +1

wow pretty good specs for aht laptop

  • how do you get the saving?

    • Click the picture, dunno why he put the old link there.

  • +1

Hi this seems a good deal, if I bought this and got a usb digital tuner to watch & record tv, would this laptop be powerful enough to playback recorded shows? thanks

    • Yes

    • +4

easily… my single core Celeron D (with integrated graphics) from 5 years ago is fast enough!
This will be a great machine for doing everything except high quality gaming.

  • +1

Am I right in thinking this should handle 1080 or 720 mkv bluray rips?

    • +2

with ease! walk in the park

      • +1

Cheers, that's the main reason I would get this one, so just wanted to check :)

  • Note that the battery is only a 4 cell battery not a 6 cell, so this will pose a problem if you intend to use this as a university laptop.

    • +1

If you leave it at your desk it will be fine :)

Tbh I never use my laptop without the adaptor (unless it's an emergency i.e. printing, sending an email etc)

    • hi scrimshaw, thanks for the info, do you know you long roughly a 4 cell battery would last between charges? thanks

      • +1

I don't really know, but my Compaq 515 has a 6 cell that lasts 2:45 hours (with medium power saving settings and using Wifi)

I would suppose a 4 cell battery would only last two-thirds of that, 2 hours maybe? On the upside, the laptop would probably be lighter since the battery has less cells.

        • +1

u can always get a 2nd 6cell or 9cell battery if theres issues with the 4 cell right? then youll have 2 batteries!

  • How does this compare with their other deals all under the $399 deals?
    HP: http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…
    Viewsonic: http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/advanced_search_result.php?…

    • +3

The HP has a weaker processor, but has a bigger battery: 6 cells as opposed to 4 cells.

The Viewsonic is a ultrathin notebook, which is similar to a netbook since it lacks a DVD drive. The CPU runs at only 1.2 ghz, so it might be slow, but at least it saves power. The ULV Core 2 Duo is about 2 or 3 times faster than an Atom N450 processor.

    • +1

I think the HP might be a better deal for some. As mentioned, the HP laptop has a weaker CPU (Celeron Dual Core T3000 1.8GHz compared with this deal which is T3500 running at 2.1GHz), smaller HDD (250GB vs 320GB) and it has 1 year warranty vs 2 years.

The pros of the HP laptop are upgradeable to 4GB ram for an extra $19, supports wireless N and it has a 6 cell battery instead of 4 (couple with the fact that it has a slightly slower CPU, the HP might have significantly better battery performance).

I would personally prefer the HP deal and upgrade to 4GB but they are both great value laptops. Good job OnLine Computer :)

  • Great price. I don't need a laptop now but might get one in 6-12 months for work purposes, but will hold off until then to maximize the tech benefit.

  • could make a nice gift :)

  • Looks tempting, but there's a complete lack of information about this anywhere.

    • +2

Some people have some unrealistic expectations but what's being offered is a decent laptop for a great price.

Celeron is the budget Intel processor but this one is dual core and I think it is ignorant to assume this laptop is a "paper weight" just because it is a Celeron.

      • +1

Its based off the CORE 2 Due line of CPU's with 800MHz FSB and 1mb cache .. its pretty darn quick for a laptop CPU and blows away any intel Atom or Intel "U" series mobiles cpu's

    • +2

This is faster than you think. The T3500 is one of the better celeron CPU's that feature a 800mhz FSB and 1mb cache. It's faster than a Core 2 Duo T6600.

    • +1

Have you used a recent Celeron? It's still going to be better than any OLD pentium.

  • kind of interested in this one http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…, is this a good deal?

    • +1

wow seems extremely good for that price

      impressed with the screen
however, 2gb is slightly below average these days, (average is 4GB), but depending on use, 4GB us unnecessary

      • +3

Whats impressive with the screen? It looks like a bog standard 1366x768 LED backlit screen.

        • +1

lol true i read 1080p HDMI as the screen @ specs

  • +1

This look like a good deal and a value for money laptop. I am wondering though if it's worth it to fork out an extra $100 (after cashback) for this one instead:
    http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

Faster CPU (Core i3 370M 2.4GHz), more and faster RAM (4GB DDR3) and also 6-cells battery cough "up to 4.5 hours".

  • looks like a great deal

well mine was by accident the rest of you are just being silly..;-)

  • Personally I would rather get this one:

    http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

    6 cell vs 4 cell
    wireless n vs g
    2.49kg vs 2.66kg

granted it has a slower CPU and a smaller HDD but for web surfing it makes little difference, besides the HDD can be upgraded if need be.

    • Don't forget the out of the box 2 year warranty… Makes a difference when forking out $69 for an additional year…

    • They both have a + and a - I went for the E1500 because HP Qty is shocking!

      • +1

        The quantity should be fine.

  • Hm, I don't get how they can offer these things for so cheap, considering Win7 alone costs $100 or so, that's 1/4 the price of the machine. So the hardware itself is only worth $300? Hard to believe.

    • +1

OEMs get qty discount from M$.

      • I know. When I said it's $100, that's not retail, that's the OEM price, and that's just for Home, not Premium.

        • +2

          If you knew, then you'd know they don't pay anywhere-near $100 ;)

        • +1

Manufacturers get Windows licenses much cheaper than consumers do. We pay $100 for an OEM Win 7 license.

From what I've heard manufacturers pay $30~40 USD per license, though that's just rumors.

        • Yeah around $50 depending on the version of Windows. If you believe the MLN rep they get if for free but that is just BS.

  • +1

Real shame that all laptops have now switched from 15.4" 16:10 displays to 15.6" 16:9 ones. Not only does it mean they're nearly 3% smaller in total area, they have much less screen height, which is important on a PC (scrolling etc). In fact the screen height is equivalent to an old 14" CRT monitor.

    • I read that as 'trolling etc'

I need height for trolling too XD

    • +1

Real shame that all laptops have now switched from 15.4" 16:10 displays to 15.6" 16:9 ones.

Not all. Dell Latitudes (at least E6xxx series still have 1280x800 or 1440x900 resolution but of course you pay a premium.

  • Anyone bought a 9 or 12 cell battery for the E1500 off eBay? Recommendation for a seller would be appreciated.

  • Can get it here with free postage:

    • I was going to say "Doh!" but it seem to be missing the 2-Yrs Global Warranty, not sure if it's just them forgetting to add it in or what? Also it's $1 more, ONE WHOLE dollar more!!! I could buy stamp with that kinda dough.
