    Yes, it's really interesting.

Yes - interesting when you tell the cops that it was only a fake needle that you used to hold up the 7/11 with …..

    • +31

      Challenge accepted!

    • What's the yellow substance you are threatening them with?

"Give me all you're money or I'll give you a hit."

      • +2

The yellow substance looks like vegetable oil…

        AQIS, Vegetable oil is ok…

However, customs will probably cut it open and try to determine what the liquid is.

        • +5

vegetable oil? Its probably just water with some yellow food colouring.

        • +20

          It could be piss

  • +3

I would imagine airport screening may have an issue with these as well.

    • +11

my family died from heroin overdose. they injected the drug using needles. we need to BAN all products like this, people should not have a tiny bit of FUN and HUMOUR at my expense.

      • +29

I think we need a ban on funny toys. Toys are not funny people.

Also, laughter is only ever appropriate when its at the laugher's expense.

        • +3

Toys don't kill people…pens kill people!

          Ban all pens I say!!!

      • +11

How about kids who need daily injections to stay alive? This could be help them getting use to the idea of needles.

You are essentially saying because cars/alcohol/and pretty much anything else can kill people, therefore we should ban it all. And who is making fun at your expense, do you see people with relatives killed in car accidents going out to ban toy cars????

      • +9

Er, guys, if Tal has had a real and unpleasant experience, maybe don't joke about it. (My apologies to Lazed if you are serious)

        -> Tal

It was a member who joked about the item being used for that purpose and not the seller or the store.

I'm sure it can be used for curiosity, Halloween (eg dressing up as a doctor) and other purposes that are not related to your experience.

        • +2

You will probably find any product or service where someone has been traumatised by coming in contact with it, but should we ban them??

Laptop computers -> someone dropped one onto their cat and killed it, should we ban laptops from being listed?

Cheap car washes -> someone had their GTHO Falcon scratched while being washed and now they are deeply upset about it, should we ban them too ??

          I could go on…

        • +17

If we were to ban all objects/services where people have been traumatized by, then OzBargain would become a pretty boring place and possibly not exist, don't you think?

Furthermore, if someone is traumatized by needles, they probably wouldn't view a deal with 'needle tube' in the title, let alone continue reading the comments as soon as they see the confronting syringe image at the top.

        • +3

foundit, I dont have any issue with the item being up for sale to anyone who wants it, I didnt go on a rant about its impact on society, I simply asked an open question, how is it funny, since that was the first point made about the pen

        • +2

          Oh, k.

Could be the "unexpected humour". Surprising people who are wondering what someone is doing with a syringe (such as attempting to write with it) …

          shrug

        • Tal - what question did you ask? I can't spot one.

      • +5

Just to make things clear, did you say your "family" died from heroin overdose, like everyone? that would be a pretty bad experience to live through

        sorry for you loss

        • +2

I thought it was pretty obvious lazed was joking to make a point. Especially when read with their follow up comment about laptop computers.

      • -4

perhaps you could explain to me how this is funny? I dont disagree this kind of pen has an upside (as stated lower, gets kids used to needles), but explain how this is funny? I guess my sense of humour isnt as low as lazed's since he uses sarcasm LIKE this TO emphasise HIS point.

i hope you have a hard time getting to sleep tonight, writing such a comment about your family

    • +2

I have been traumatised by Tal's lack of humour. Ban them - ban them now.

  • +1

Honest question: What will happen if customs x-rays this parcel and thinks they are real syringes? I want to buy lots of them for gifts, but I'm worried about breaking some kind of law.

    • +6

Probably open the package to have a look. Hopefully they wont think blue ink is the new heroin.

    • +16

pens are legal in most countries….

    • +3

There's a fair chance Customs (or the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service) will open up the package to verify the contents — happens sometimes to stuff I buy from overseas, and they leave a card saying the package has been opened and inspected. They may even break one of the syringes to test what the liquid is. But I don't think you need to worry about falling foul of any law here.

    • +11

      any special reason why?
Some sort of objection to writing?

    • +13

WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

      • +5

        and the kittehs!!!

        • +5

Every time someone uses this pen, God kills a kitten :'(

      • +2

Hide your kids, Hide your wife

        and hide your husband

Cuz they’re rapin everybody out here

    • +2

You're right. It'll encourage kids to study medicine. And I fuggen hate doctors.

    • +6

Got quite a few doctor/nurse friends and they could use that! It won't improve doctor's hand writing to be more recognisable though.

  • +5

Hmm, overpriced compared to the 4c Aldi ball point pens, but hey if you get off on this sort of thing, go right ahead.

  • +1

Customs: We got some drug trafficking here.

    • +13

indeed….customs are smart enough to know that most drug traffickers pack their drugs in syringes….

  • +2

    Me like!!!! Hi' five !!!

    • +3

You do realise that there are plenty of legitimate, medical purposes for syringes, right?

        • +11

plenty of legitimat purposes for guns

I'd hazard a guess that there are far more lives saved from syringes than from guns…..

        • +3

          this i didn't know.

          Thanks for the idea :)

now to go and disconnect the brake line and feed it into the pool.!

        • plenty of legitimat purposes for guns

I'd hazard a guess that there are far more lives saved from syringes than from guns…..

But if Iraq had weapons of mass destruction…

        • +2

You are here playing the old "think of the children card" yet in the same breath you provide instructions on how these same children could make an explosion?

  • I got some syringe pens from a travel expo. The liquid was red to make it look like blood which was quite fun. But I think Australian Customs would surely open a couple pens to make sure it didn't contain any illegal stuff. Otherwise the drug lords would be starting to smuggle drugs through syringe shaped pens. :P

    • +1

It's still better than pen shaped syringes.

      • Like how diabetics use?

        • Never actually seen one of them, but from what I hear (from a comment on another deal) the side you think you're supposed to hold it from is the wrong side or something lol

  • +42

Wow, after reading the comments i am amaze at what kind of society we live in to have such negative view on a simple FAKE syringe, saying just because someone die from overdose is like saying I am offended with toys cars because so many die from car accident. And why would airport security have a problem with syringes? people buy REAL syringes all the time, you know to measure cough syrup for children, feed our pets with liquids and medications. Gee Syringes are one of the most useful invetion to modern medicine, it save millions of lives, and do you know i know a little 12 yo girl who have yo inject herself everyday for diabetes!!? And what is this use for, good gift to doctors, nurse, medical professional doctor office etc etc… Good post!!

    • +3

If I could +1000000 to this comment I would
      Huu is correct 100%

    • +4

Soon, there's a people complain about large LCD tv post because his cat got flatten by the giant screen and now he is on medication to reduce the horrific trauma. GTFO - Hi' Five!!!!

  • -4

heres hoping some degenerate buys one to hold up a 7-11, and gets pepper sprayed

    • +4

Hold a 7-11 with a syringe? Whoa, if I was in the store, I would certain get out my syringe pen and chuck it at the intruder. That would surely scare him off.

  • +1

Better ban kids toy guns then.

Oh and lookout. Im gonna get threatened by a guy with a piss filled syringe! Arghhhhhhhhhh

I am traumatised by Broden, but we can't ban him ;)

  • +2

    Drugs are bad, mmmkay?

  • would be fun. bought one :)

  • +4

    hmmmm,

    • Which is worse/better
Pregnant(COTD condoms), Stabbings(knives), Illegal drugs( this)

      Put into worse scenario

    • +14

I can, people that can't spell inappropriate correctly.

      • +6

Of course there are both morons and assholes in customs, but then on the off chance you DO lose your item, we're talking about a 76c loss. Hardly something to cry over. Though I'd recommend buying items like this from DX. Not sure on this sites policy, but DX have sent me a replacement for the one item I've had damaged by customs, and that's was a far more expensive item too.

        • +1

Of course there are both morons and assholes in customs

          Selection criteria! :p

I'm pretty stingy Ash, losing 76c would bring a tear to my eye! ;)

  • +1

So, I guess the haters of syringes, guns etc are also the ones that are against poor Megatron also then:
    http://theknightshift.blogspot.com/2007/05/megatron-is-one-b…
And people wonder why names such as the 'Nanny State' happen.
To all those whinging about everything in society, thanks for being fun pirates.

  • +1

It's amazing how many people get worked up over a 76 cent pen :)

  • +39

I honestly cant tell if people are trolling or legitimately concerned for the potential misuse of these pens. It seems remarkable that a large number of people could be so outraged by a pen shaped as a syringe, to the point where they are actually negging the deal and suggesting that these types of items ought to be banned from being shared as deal on ozbargain.

For those of you suggesting that these types of pens may be passed as weapons used to hold up a convenience store or something similar: Do you really think that people who decide to commit that crime would be on the fence about doing so until they find this item? OFCOURSE NOT. If someone wants to rob a 7/11, they could do so with a knife, rock, brick, or just about any other easily obtainable item. This deal does not in any way make the crime of holding up a convenience store (or mugging) any more doable. Not to mention the fact that syringes are not controlled substances, and if someone wanted to go that route, they could simply buy a real one.

Secondly, as some people have already mentioned, ALL products for sale have potential for misuse and misapplication. The primary example would be knives. The idea that these products, based on this potential for misuse, should be banned on ozbargain is moronic. You have to look at the INTENDED purpose of these items, which in this case, is simply a PEN. Unlike guns, which some people have been likening this product to, the intended purpose of this item is not to hurt people.

Lastly those of you arguing about exposure to children, stop being so precious. Children should not be hidden from syringes, they should be educated about them. Syringes are a remarkable product integral to thousands of medical treatments. They can be dangerous in some circumstances, and children ought be be educated about those circumstances. But this is just a HARMLESS toy, and does not create a dangerous situation.

    • +1

Thanks Ambiguous - couldn't have said it better myself :)

    • +3

      Ambiguous you're wrong.

if kids see syringes then they will want to shoot up heroin and will become prostitutes to get money and spread aids.

(relax!, i'm sending up the stupid)

    • +1

Concise and to the point. 20/20

yes, i agree you are far more awesome than i
      i bow before you

    • +2

It's either that or the "Chewbacca Defence"! ;)

      • +99999999999999

  • +2

Really, anything can be used as a weapon. A robber could threaten to poke your eye out with a stick, give you deadly paper cuts, give you lethal splinters with paddle pop sticks, staple your head with a stapler (http://tinyurl.com/4o2czqm), and lastly, the most deadly, whinge to you about shapes of pens.

    • +4

That free bible is potentially a weapon too. One day I am gonna get a paper cut on my ass.

      • Sorry if I offended by posting a weapon :(

        • +1

I cant decide whether you've sinned or not =\
cause youre sort of promoting murder :S

        • You're pathetic.

        • I dun gon' go to hell.

        • There's a couple of hells out there. Which one do i go to first?

      • +2

How about potential plutonium and lead poisoning from the ink in the bible?

  • lol, this has been around for more than 15 years…. I remember it was banned in my school

back then it was a mechanical pencil so guess where the pre-teen lead poisoning cases came from :D

  • +1

I'm thinking of buying one for my doctor >_>

  • thanks bought 4 :P

    impuse buy

    • +5

      u gun rob 7 11 bruh?

  • +1

this thread has gotten way off on a tangent from my comment, I am neither traumatised or offended by the item, i just dont see how its funny, sorry for getting you guys worked up lol

    • At some point someone thought funny meant its a toy and therefore intended for kids.

      sigh

      • -1

        that was insightful

        sigh
