Remember when people were flogging these off on eBay for $200+ each.

    Pepperidge Farm remembers.

    • +3

I just bought a spare of each for sentimenal storage as I thought they were disappearing… Uggghh.

      • just keep them, they will eventually be worth more in years to come

        • +4

          Would be surprised.

Most boxed consoles in average condition don't outpace inflation, and high quality condition is so valuable because of product scarcity.

There will not a any kind of supply issues with obtaining these in 20 years time due to amount of people putting them aside.

You are better off investing in Wii U games right now.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: I only wanted two new ones as I modded the other 2. Keeping originals of them new seems warm and fuzzy lol.

Remember when people were up voting deals for RRP?

      Pepperidge Farm remembers

    • Who was selling for $200? They never seemed to be out of stock on the SNES only NES. Pepperidge farm struggles to remember.

these are a hot product again after that playstation classic has a terrible list of games

    • Just curious what your list of games should have been on the PS Classic?
I found half the games were decent enough but too readily available through other means other than piracy.

      • +1

The big ones would have rights issues. Most of the titles are average and they have all dated awfully compared to a 2D focused console.

      • +2

Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo,

      • +1

twisted metal 2, res 2, parasite eve, medievil, crash, spyro, castlevania, driver, silent hill, gran turismo, jet moto, tomba, chrono cross, tomb raider, wipeout

        • +2

A few games there weren't originally released in the PAL region.
I'd totally go for Castlevania - Symphony of the Night, Silent Hill.
Out of your non-AU releases, I'd go Parasite Eve, Chrono Cross (nice selections).
To say that Resident Evil, FF7, MGS, Persona as terrible would be (IMHO) quite harsh!
I'd replace Tekken 3 with Tobal No 1 (or Tobal 2 if you were considering NTSC).
Heck, they forgot about Vib Ribbon, Bust A Groove and so many other choices. :/
I could imagine the licensing requirements for everything would be hellish to get approval.

  • Why is "AC Adaptor not included"?

    • +3

They're powered by USB, so standard USB phone chargers etc will work.

    • That's just how Nintendo have operated. They assume you have a USB charger, so they just give you the cable only.

      • +9

They should also assume I have a Switch, and sell me these games through (profanity) Virtual Console.

      • I think it's more to do with there being so many different 220-240v plugs used around the world.

The NA variants include an power adaptor which is easy for them seeing as the plugs are the same in all of NA.

      • Yeah, or if your tv has powered usb ports, you can just use them (which is what i do).

    • +1

PlayStation classic and the Neo geo mini doesn't include an AC adapter.
      Shitty trend I don't like…

      • +1

You don’t have a spare phone charger? Honestly I’ve got at least 7 spares all throughout the house. It’s not like they’re hard to come by.

    • +1

      Nintendo are cheap ****s.

    • +1

Easy to plug them into a TV with USB too.. cleaner than another plug imo.

  • +7

My nostalgia makes me want to get one of these, then I remember my RetroPie is being ignored.

    • +10

Ditto with me and the Sega Classics I own on Steam that I regularly install, play for 5 minutes and uninstall. And I think I have a folder on my computer somewhere with thousands of emu ROMs that I also regularly crack out and configure an emulator and controller for then… play for 5 minutes and forget about.

      • Are you my other personality?

        • +2

          He is everyone’s other personality

  • +7

Just to let those collectors who may be thinking of getting this from the Good Guys and are looking for a clean unmarked box. Got the SNES Classic last 20% off sale.

2 things to note. Box has the store plain white raised 4.5x1 cm rectangular electronic security tag stuck on the side. They also stick the order invoice on the box to identify the order for pickup with tape and it may also peel of some of the box art where the sticky tape was if it doesn't come of cleanly. Other than that the units are in perfect new condition.

Just buy a raspberry pi, you won't regret.

    • +2

My Rapsberry is doing nothing though.

      • Did you get a 128gb sd with a retro pi image?

        • Where can I buy that pre-configured?

      • +1

P.S. I bought one of these snes's on launch, it has not been opened.

        • The nostalgia is costing us money!

          • @FabMan: Raspberry is all you need even for the lightest nostalgia requirements.

  • +1

I don't understand how people can play these things with the crazy amount of new games that are available these days!

    • New indie games are basically nes games. See undertale, celeste.. Even donkey Kong is snes style

    • i grew up having being able to play a few games and i still like to have a reasonably small library ao i can appreciate the games more

  • +2

Nostalgia. These games are more challenging than the newer games.

  • +1

Honestly this console sucks ass cause the controller cord is like 1 metre long. What the actual F were they thinking.

    • Good thing an extension cable from ebay is about $3 each.

Sure, it'll be better if Nintendo made it longer to begin with, but it's better than nothing.

  • -4

    Still not worth the price.
    Should be under $50.

    • +3

Must be why they kept selling out.

    • +1

why $50? the games libraries are pretty top notch….

      • It doesn’t come with many games though.
If it included at least 100 games, it would probably be more worth it.

        • no, you're just spoilt. that's $5 per game not including the console and 2 controllers. The 20 games here are top notch

          • -2

@bailbondsh: Spoilt for expecting more games?

There are other consoles like this that come with more games.
            eg. Atari Flashback 8
It comes with 105 games and 2 controllers.
It is only $89 AUD, which is the RRP. So when it is on sale, it works out even better.

            • @CartoonPizza: Atari Flashack is made by a shite company and also Atari games aren't really on a par with Nintendo games.

  • +1

Both of these things are great once you load up your own ROMs. Worth it for the form factor and controllers alone.

    • How do you load the ROMs for these? Is it just an SD card or something?

      • You've got to install hacked software and load the games into the limited internal memory.

      • Through the micro USB connected to a laptop using the hakchi software. You can easily fit all of the good games for each system on there.

  • +5

FYI, NES mini only comes with one controller. SNES mini comes with two controllers.
I didn’t realise this, so thought maybe others might want to know as well.
