  • I have an existing camera that the video output is my rear view mirror. Can I use the same camera for this product?

    • This unit has an RCA video input (the yellow cable), so if your camera can feed to that, then yes.

Heads up SCA was refunding people saying they had "no stock". See the last thread.

    • +2

Yep - don't forget to leave negative feedback when they cancel on you in a couple of days.

  • Would love to grab this instead of a risky HK Android unit, but looks like I need to buy a crazy expensive canbus unit to use it with the stock amp? Arghhh

    • Hahah hell no. Go on eBay or Amazon and you'll find it for <$50

    • U gotta try one of these real android units, dont buy cheap though, android 8 with at least 4gb ram and it will change ur whole in car experience forever.especially for movies, music TV,live entertainment, multi format video play etc etc, so much better than these android auto thing can do.

      • +1

        real android units.

        You got a link?

        • Heaps on ebay, just search android double din and find a good feedback seller the you are good

      • Movies. In your dash. Whilst you drive?! Please get off the road.

        • +1

Not for the driver dude, good for others. Like kids, passanger etc especially good for a long trip or when you stuck in the traffic for two hours heading home.

      • Android auto is always updating and geared for driving.

Plus typical headunits have the option of sound system upgrades. You'll notice an improvement of sound with stock speakers.

I ended up putting an amp with apline r speakers and sub and it sounds (profanity) awesome.

Having used both HK Android unit and currently using this XAV-AX100 with Android Auto, I can say that at this price, it's a no brainer to pick the Sony.

      BOOTUP
Both are pretty slow to start up - Sony is slightly faster.

      TOUCHSCREEN
The AX100 touch screen is a lot more responsive than the HK unit. It's still resistive, but very much feels like a capacitive. I do occassionally find myself stabbing the screen in frustration as I think some of the on-screen buttons are too small (or my fingers are too fat).

      INTERFACE
Interface is much cleaner and easier to look at with the Sony - radio station screen for example looked messy and unorganised with the HK unit. Tactile buttons felt pretty cheap on the HK unit, too.

      ANDROID AUTO
Being able to plug your phone in and have Google Maps and Music automatically appear on your screen is a lot more convenient than browsing through apps on your HK unit.

      INSTALLATION
Finding the right ISO adapters to connect your vehicle and steering wheel controls to the head unit is less of a headache with the Sony.

      SOUND QUALITY
They're both a million times better than the stock head units I've used (Civic, Commodore), but still not as good as an Alpine or Nakamichi for the same price - I found the HK and Sony 10 band equaliser from the mid-to-right side (treble) to still sound kind of muddy even after playing around with it a lot. The Alpine and Nakamichi's had a lot more customisation.
Sound is so subjective, so I know I'm nitpicking and should just get an amp if I want even better sound.
I've connected an active sub to both and they sound the same to me - I think mainly because sound settings were on the sub.

  • Does anyone find it annoying they put the usb connection at the rear of unit. I put music onto a usb drive but would find it cumbersome fumbling for the rear usb cable each time l upgraded my music selection.

    • Grab a usb extension and run it round the front?

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-3-0-SuperSpeed-Extension-Cab…

Perhaps not blue though. Linked bc they had 0.3m

      • What l meant was opposed to having a dedicated usb connection on the front panel.

        • It's a fair point - I used to leave a USB drive the size of a wireless keyboard/mouse receiver in my head unit to watch videos if I'm in a car park waiting for someone.

I guess they figured the majority use case would be streaming music from Spotify or Google Play Music via their phone.

I definitely prefer the rear connection over the front. So much cleaner. I hate having a USB sticking out of my dash.

As Nismo suggested, get an extension and put it somewhere more accessible.

      • ok, l get it now……… cheers

        • You don't need to buy an extension cable. It comes with one. I routed mine to the glovebox.

    • Its cleaner than having wires coming out of headunit from front (when phone is plugged). I have mine connected to usb flush connector below the a/c controls.

  • Codes aren't working?!

  • Agreed, jumper20 doesn’t work but proper10 does. Thanks for the post though.

  • Unfortunately Supercheap has removed the JUMPER20 code from its page today.

    • has the rcam 2 worked out ..

      • Ordered just yesterday, has not been delivered yet.

  • Although the deal has expired and this may be a stupid question, how do you know if its compatible for your car? Ie I have a Ford Ecosport…

    • +1

from Melbourne Guy's comment in the original deal:
"To see what you need to make it fit in your car, go to https://aerpro.com/vehicles and go to your model of car, enter the Sony head unit model number and it will tell you the parts you need."

      • Wow this is a great tool to use! thx

  • Just got refunded for this deal as others have suggested would happen. I somehow made $42.27 out of the inconvenience ;)

    • yup, mine just got cancelled just 2 mins ago. spewing.

      • Yep cancelled

        • Mine hasn't been cancelled yet and I just noticed positive feedback from SCA for the item. Hopefully that means I'll get it…

          • @jtb: They also left positive feedback for me…

  • Anybody know a bit about these things and can tell me the following?

I have an aftermarket Kenwood stereo (double din) headunit in my Subaru Impreza.

How much know how and what would I need to buy to get this to work assuming it wouldn't be as easy as unplugging and plugging back in.

    • Most aftermarket stereos connec via an ISO plug so if the kenwood stereo uses an ISO plug you should be able to plug the new one straight in.

      • Interesting I'll check it out thanks hazard. My current one is a few years old now it's a KENWOOD DNX7330BT from memory.

  • +2

They don't make it easy to leave feedback for cancelled orders, you can't do it from your purchase history, you need to go to 'my account' -> feedback and leave it there. https://my.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay&CurrentPage=M…

    • +1

It's worth doing it though - they've dropped from 97.5% to 97.3% in the last couple of days with at least 15 -ve feedback from this Sony head unit alone.

I personally don't deal with ebay sellers that have less than 97% feedback score.

      • Yep worth doing. Their feedback has taken a real hammering, it's down to 97.1%. Remarkably poor for such an established chain.

  • Anyone know if this deal will return soon ?
