  • Seems like a great price.

Anyone know somewhere around Central Coast / North Sydney / Newcastle who can install these without charging an arm and a leg?

    • +1

      Gumtree maybe

    • I got one installed 2 years ago by Leroy's in Maitland for $80 , don't know if they are still around

    • +1

What kind of car do you have? It's easier than you think to do it yourself!

  • Crap wish there were double DIN fascia available for Hyundai Getz to put this beauty in :(

    • +21

cut a bigger hole mate, its only a getz.

  • Anyone got this unit and can give any feedback on it?

    • +4

Yes it's very very good, haven't had a fault. I bought this two years ago for like $550 from repco. It's actually made my stock car speakers sound way better than with the original headunit.

The body itself is only single din, but the screen takes up a double din.

Unfortunately there is no aux input or CD player or DAB. I use my USB input for Android auto and it's fast to connect, load and really great overall.

One downside is the reversing screen, well could be my fault. I haven't figured out the settings to turn off their line guidance. My reversing camera already displays lines so now I have two sets of lines overlapping. However since it's been like 2 years, Ive tuned my brain out of seeing that as an annoyance.

I only bought this one over the other headunits for the knob, I much prefer volume knobs over those terrible capacitive buttons.

      Hope this helps!

      • It doesn't do Android auto over bluetooth or something?
It does just have regular radio though right?

        • +1

It'll stream the audio through bluetooth for android auto (still need to plug the phone in).
So once you plug the phone in, a message comes up "bluetooth is now used for android auto".
It's annoying if you want to use android auto but want to stream music off another device.

Yes sure does have regular radio FM and AM.
So you can have android auto running and listen to AM/FM.

          • @Dandalfthedank: Awesome. Thank you

          • @Dandalfthedank: I heard that you can force the audio to use USB if you disable bluetooth, is this true? I would assume that the audio quality is better through USB than bluetooth.

Also can you help to check if it displays album art if running:
            1. Plugged Android Auto and the audio is sent over bluetooth?
            2. Plugged Android Auto and the audio is sent over USB (if possible)?
            3. Without Android Auto and the audio is sent over bluetooth?
            4. Android Auto on your phone only and audio is sent over bluetooth? I'm assuming this is the same as 3.

Sorry for asking so many questions, I can't find the answers in reviews/forums. Thanks!

            • +1

              @tukanglistrik: Hi,

I'm fairly certain the headunit isn't capable of receiving audio over USB ..

              1) When you connect your phone it will automatically connect via bluetooth for audio/calls.
              2) I think if bluetooth is turned off you will have the screen mirroring with no sound.
              3) If you're not using Android auto/carplay you can still connect via bluetooth and play music/make calls as like any other headunit.
              4) If you run the android auto app on your phone you can connect via bluetooth for audio.

Although, there are some claims of audio over usb in this thread,

      • +1

Have the same head unit, I love it.

The reversing lines you can get rid of by going Setting —> Rear camera Settings, then for each line hit the >< button to make it smaller until it disappears.

      • For the guidance line you could go the settings and adjust all the line width to zero.

      • Thanks for your help! Does it have input for steering wheel controls?

    • Great unit. Android Auto and Apple Carplay provide some degree of futureproofing since it just does what your phone tells it to do, i.e. as the android auto app updates the functionality of the head unit updates. Great audio quality, 3 sets of RCA preouts for if you run your own amps as well. only complaint is the stupid safety warning that pops up every time you start the car.

        Behold….https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidAuto/comments/7gderr/disabled_caution_screen_on_sony_xavax100/

      • +1

You can remove the warning screen. See here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-auto-g…

I have this headunit. I wish there was a second USB port though so I could connect my phone and USB drive simultaneously.

        • +1

The new firmware update from Sony makes the warning disappear by itself.

          • @Wasgood: aw hell yeah! thanks fellas. firmware time.

        • +2

          USB hub??

  • +2

does supercheap offer installation? do i have to provide all the fasica and harnesses?

    • I called my supercheap - they don't install. I called a local auto elec and he said it's 'sort of a self install type thing and best to get wherever you buy it from to install it because I would be too expensive to do it'.

      • lol and the infinite cycle continues..

It requires soldering wires and sounds hard..

        • +1

Use the ISO leads from aerpro, no soldering needed at all, literally plug and play

          • @Dandalfthedank: Finding the right plugs and leads is probably the hardest bit, then it just plugging it in. Making it look good with the correct fascia is the same deal, once you've found the right parts, it's a breeze.

          • @Dandalfthedank: EBay even cheaper for the same iso harnesses

  • +2

Bloody hell thats about $80 less than I paid for mine through the previous deal. Still very happy with mine.

To see what you need to make it fit in your car, go to https://aerpro.com/vehicles and go to your model of car, enter the Sony head unit model number and it will tell you the parts you need.

    • I'm confused..
It says Option 1 - APP9 Harness and Patch Lead
then I need double din facia
      swc harnesses
      universal iso connectors
      primary harness
      Aftermarket Headunit Antenna Adapter
      T-Harnesses
      Speaker Spacers (3)
      Vehicle Specific USB Adaptors
      OEM Video Retention
      Factory Headunit Antenna Adaptor

  • Looks good. How difficult/costly is it to install this to integrate with a standard car (e.g. my Mazda 3)? Presumably needs to be mounted/fitted somewhere as well - just in front of existing display or does it go elsewhere?

    • Depending on the age of your Mazda3, you can get a retro-fitted one by the dealer: https://www.caradvice.com.au/697535/mazda-apple-carplay-andr…

    • If you have a bl Mazda shouldn't take more than 20mins taking into account u have no skill at all.

If you have some idea shouldn't take more than 10 mins.

Experienced person shouldn't take more than 5 mins

The most expensive part to fit unit will be the double din fascia, I'm guessing around $70. Iso adaptor to suit should be around $20-30

      • +1

If you want to setup hands free and install reverse camera it would take much longer. As a complete beginner it took me 4 hours to install this into my wife’s corolla including reverse camera and handsfree.

It can be done with no skill at all relying on YouTube and google but I would give myself a few hours.

        • Yes your right much longer, I'm just answering op's question.

Add more time on top of that if your upgrading speakers, installing amps etc.

  • has anyone got this on a jeep wrangler and know if it works with the upgraded alpine sound system and also the steering wheel controls?

  • Layman question - are there still markets for these aftermarket decks? Considering that almost all the new cars in the last 8 years have their security devices and ECUs hooked up against the OEM units?

    • Yep plenty of cars still don't come with Android Auto but use a double din stereo.

I despise cars where the climate control is integrated into the entertainment system. Impossible to upgrade!

  • Anyone know if this fits in a 2012 Toyota hilux

    • +1

Yes, you'll need 10mm side trims as the Hilux's OEM radio is 200mm wide and this Sony is standard ISO (i.e. 180mm wide).

  • Guys No more click & Collect it is only for shipping at the moment.

    • still works for me, in stock at campbelltown sca

  • For me initially was appearing like everywhere but when i was select click & Collect and processing payment it was coming up with error and every time returned something went wrong and next time that location marked as out of stock, when i did not select click & Collect it went through fine.

    • Yes same but for a different item, I think there is a problem with their stock availability system on Ebay.

  • Does anyone know if you can use your car's existing reversing camera with this? I have a 2010 Mazda CX9 that has a reversing camera, but no bluetooth/hands free calling.. so I would love to buy this and have it installed, but just want to know if I need to buy an additional camera or if I can use the existing one?

    • +1

If your existing camera has its own RCA cable (think back to the yellow cable on your VCR/DVD player), then yes.

      • Not that simple. Generally factory cameras don't have RCAs and also they run on 6V. In some cases you have to hack the wiring loom and determine video output and fit a voltage converter as well.

    • There are some camera retention kits available but generally for the last facelift of the previous gen CX-9. Also, the previous gen CX-9 has an extremely retarded set-up with the clock and trip computer, where the controls are embedded in the factory head unit. Once you go aftermarket, you no longer have control of those functions. There are aftermarket interfaces out there which advertise that you retain control of these functions, but they never work properly. Also, if it's a Bose, you'll end up spending a fortune on interfaces to make it work.

My recommendation is replace the gas guzzler CX-9 instead. Especially before the transfer case shits itself, which is a common issue with that model and is a very, very costly repair. There's plenty of other 7 seater vehicles out there that this Sony unit will fall straight into without flapping about.

  • Hey all, I've got a Honda Civic 2002 sedan and based on the web site: https://aerpro.com/vehicles/honda/honda-civic-2000-2005-seda…, would I be correct to assume that I just need the APP8SP4 and APP071?

Also, any thoughts on this vs the ax5000?

    • Can't see App8sp4 but I take that loom is for steering wheel controls.

Your correct on the app071 that loom is your headunit power/speaker connections going by the pic

  • Any idea , if It can fit for Ford Territory 2006 model,

    • No. ICC is embedded with radio and A/C controls, you can't remove/replace it.

  • This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.

      • Me too… You add it to the cart on the main site, but it's pick up only with no stores having stock.

Still available on their main store with SAVE30.

But I'm not sure about the availability though..

Just a heads up. You can stack both JUMPER30 and P5OFF codes.

    Credits to DrewClifford

    • +2

      Wow that's a surprise!

    • Arrgh - see below :)

    • +1

Wow since when did they allow codes to stack? Did this slip through the system?

      • +1

I don't think the jumper30 coupon is an ebay discount - scheap are footing the bill for it, so codes do stack in this instance.

  • Thanks OP. Just bought a Pioneer Active Slim Line Subwoofer TS-WX130 for $209.30. Cheapest other price was $218 ish..

  • I've made the decision that the mrs is getting a new stereo & speakers for her little Echo for Christmas. I'm semi handy with a screwdriver and wire crimper but by no means confident winging it, would a new head unit & speakers be simple enough? Will the stock wiring be fine for ~250W 6.5"s front and back? I know I can google this but keen on your responses.

    • +2

It'll be fine - you're not working with 240v! Just match the old cable to the new ones, one or two at a time.

Find your power wires first - usually red & black - and swap then out to the new head unit. Turn your key to ACC to check it'll power on so you know it's working.

Speakers can be wired back to front without any problems, if the wire pairs aren't labelled or marked. The audiophiles would complain about polarity reversal, cross-cancellation etc, but it's not a big deal. You can twist the wires together with the power on - it won't damage anything - so you know each one is working.

Existing wiring is fine until you're driving 2000W from a separate amp, which you're not, so that's one less job.

Once the old speakers are all running, then swap out the new speakers (or speakers first, then headunit). Avoid doing both at once if you're not confident so that way there' one less troubleshooting step if there's any hiccup.

The only problems are usually with steering wheel buttons etc, which are all different on every make and model - so if you haven't got them, then yet another problem you don't need to deal with.

      Have fun!

      • The real question is why but a stereo that costs more than the car? :)

    • Pretty straight forward in an Echo. You will need 10mm side trims to fill the 200mm space. Factory wiring will be fine for speakers as the head unit only pumps out a true 20w x4 or so (advertised 55w x4 but this is never really the case).

There's only 2x plugs in factory unit, one is power/front speakers, other is rear. There's a good chance it might not even have rear speakers fitted, but I do hope the wiring is already there for you. You can use ISO adapters, or if you want to save some coin use narrow crimp terminals, or solder in. Use this as a reference, H and I not used in Echo, J will be illumination.

      • Thanks mate, can you please elaborate on the side trims? Are you saying the mounts of the new and old speakers probably won't match?

        • +1

The side trims are for the headunit - the hole in your car is slightly bigger than standard.

Use https://aerpro.com/ to find exactly what you need for your car.

          • @Nom: Ah cool yep. Threw me off as they're called fascia's on there.

The Ridge Ryder deluxe gazebo is a cracking deal with this, coming down to just short of $85 if you click and collect. You have to buy two though to get over the $200 or buy something else to push it over. Go splits with friends/family. It's currently half the regular price on eBay (they've gone back to full price on the website) so with this deal, it's down to about 1/3 its normal price. Gets good reviews on the SCA website. I doubt it'll ever be this cheap again. Just about worth its own deal, I reckon.

    • I have this gazebo - it absolutely rocks. Fully waterproof and very solid

    • Wont allow me to buy 2 gazebo's for some reason

    • Thanks for the recommendation. Bought one. How heavy is it? Can it fit into a sedan?

      • It's heavy and big. Depends on your sedan but I doubt you'll get it into a sedan without folding your back seats down. I guess you'll find out, now you've bought it! My sister bought the second one off me and she's only got a little Hyundai hatch. She'll be using the roof rack for sure.

They've removed the 50% off! Shite, was keen to get this as well. Nice pick up bigrizz, we'll keep an eye on it for next time

      • It will be a while before you'll see another stackable discount on top of an existing discount.

  • I'm pretty P**ssed off with the wonderful supercheap ebay 30% off - they have 20,010 items for sale on ebay (see this link )
    http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/supercheapauto/m.html?ssPageName=…
all of which say the 30% off over $200 in the listing…. but I can't get jumper 30 to work. At checkout when I click to pay, it thinks, then says can't complete - error.
It seems like supercheap don't worry about changing their listings to show a jacked price…. they just won't process the 30% discount code on the 19,000 items which they haven't jacked.
Their banner advert on the ebay start page shows
" *Ends 6/11. $1000 max disc. 3 txn pp. T&Cs apply" but they keep their T&Cs private! where are they?
If they said 30% off selected (jacked?) items, then that would just be a bit of sneaky subtlety - but what they are doing here is worse.
    Not happy Jan (Peter Birtles)
