$25 is about a nice price for NZ craft beer 6 pack from PakNSave

  • Other than ASOS what other online merchants we can use this deal?

    • +1

Hallensteins - Not the best quality but may be something of interest and they sell Uppercut hair product (and mystery discount happening at the moment until 10th). Haven't tried this so not sure if will work out, but they have egift cards that can be purchased in NZ$ e.g. buy a $25 gift card, then during checkout can probably pay part gift card and part credit card (as assume people would want to spend enough to avoid delivery fee)
      https://www.hallensteins.com/gift-cards-digital (change currency to NZ$)

  • Awesome! I'm over here now and next week!

  • +1

I wonder who would be funding this promotion?

    • Agreed - this is a really strange promotion, unless American Express is just trying to increase the awareness that their cards can be used overseas. Hoping in the long run that people forget about the 3% fees.

    • AMEX

      • True, I guess the deeper question is what ozdoc asked. Why are they doing this?!?

  • Tu meke. Off to NZ next week. Registered 2 x cards. Chur bro.

Sweet as. Paid NZD$100 for petrol for a rental car. No email confirmation but got AUD$20 next day.

Went to have sushi for NZD$26, but the restaurant didn't accept Amex. Sad!

    • +1

Did you split the payments for the $100 or just one transaction and they gave you $20?

      • +1

        Just one big transaction $100

        • so if i pay the car rental in $150 in full i should get my 6 x $5 credits total $30 without having to do any multiple card splits?

  • anyone know if you can buy any visa, MC or eftpos prepaid gift cards in NZ super markets with amex to use at places where they dont accept amex?

  • What is the best use of this deal if in Australia?

    • Making a payment somewhere where (most likely online) the currency can be changed to be charged in NZD.

      • +1

      • You mean you trnasferred 50 NZD in one transaction and you got 10 AUD credit?

        • +1

          Correct

          • @powerhammer: What, so you didn't even split it into two transactions..?

Ok yes the answer is yes - I'm just surprised.

  • Spent at McDonald's, New World, Speight's and a petrol station. Any other places known to accept Amex?

    • In Aus or NZ?

Just got credit. Spent over 150 NZD buying flights, and got 30 AUD in credit.

        Awesome deal!

        • Did you split up into $25 transactions, or did you just do a flat $150+?

          • +2

@illumination: Flat $150+ NZD online. I just changed the currency to NZD.

Works best for travel websites etc.

            • @jakxon: That is awesome. Thanks for the update. I've got a $180ish transation coming up and was thinking of how to split it into 6x $25+ LOL

Also what travel website are you referring to? I'm assuming you're referring to something like Expedia?

  • +2

too many places in nz dont accept amex and dont do paywave and require a pin. time to buy a prepaid mastercard with my amex for $150 nzd i think. where can i buy these type of mc and visa prepaid cards apart from 4 square store and nz post office and which card type fee is cheapest? also can these prepaid gift cards be used with a pin? if not will they work on old terminals that dont have paywave and require a pin?

    • Haha, pretty good idea.

    • Was thinking that a good place to do this would be on something like a kiwi version of DiviPay.

      Wonder if it exists?

  • Has anyone gotten more than 30 AUD statement credit back?

  • +2

spent around ~$170NZD on iherb last night. Awaiting credit.

  • So can we safely confirm that you are getting full $30 credit if spent over $150 in a single transaction?

    • +1

      Yes, confirmed.
Source: 3 transactions, $30 credit each time.

      • Do you mind sharing which three sources?

        • I performed 3 transactions, each time spending 150 NZD, then got 30 AUD statement credit each time :)

          • @MathNerd: What I mean was which merchant?

            • +1
              • @MathNerd: So you paid through PayPal in NZD and received the statement credit?

                • @wtfnodeal: Yes, as the deal is simply to spend in NZD (doesn't matter where you send these NZD to), the payment method (or processor) doesn't matter :)

                  • @MathNerd: Hi MathNerd, can you help me with this? I am going to send $150 to another Paypal account. The system asks me to select the sending currency which I am only given the option of AUD/USD. There isn't NZD from the selections. The receiver though can receive in NZD. So is it correct that I select sending currency in AUD and recipient currency in NZD?

                    • @DealWatcher27: Hmm, strange that you can't send NZD.
How many cards are you going to try this with? Try another card and report back your result here.

                      • +1

@MathNerd: ok I these are the procedures I take
                        1) Log in Paypal Account
                        2) Select Send
                        3) Type in another Paypal account email address
                        4) Select Sending to a friend
                        5) Then it asks sending in AUD or USD

It doesn't ask which card I am sending it from

          • @MathNerd: i gather the 3 transactions were on different cards since as maximum cash back is $30 per card? btw i can confirm if you spend $150 nzd + you will get $30 in credit since i used one card to pay $202 car rental and already received my $30 credit.

  • Can also confirm that my $170ish NZD transaction triggered $30 AUD credit without being broken down! Sweet deal.
