amaysim NBN Sold to Southern Phone

We'd like to say a big thanks for being an amaysim home internet customer.
We've made some changes and as of 26 October, amaysim no longer sells home internet. We've decided to focus on our amazingly simple mobile and energy services instead. That's good news for you as Southern Phone (who are awesome at home internet) will become your new service provider.
Since forming in 2002, Southern Phone has been offering a great customer experience and has grown to be one of the most successful providers of fixed line, VOIP, mobile and internet services in regional Australia. It's a great move.
As a bonus, Southern Phone are giving you 50% OFF your first and fourth month!

Amaysim exits broadband market after 18 months

I signed-up to this deal Get Free NBN for a Year When You Switch Your Energy to Amaysim 6 months ago. Now that they no longer offer NBN I would assume they can't honour the rest of this deal.

Does anyone have any experience with Southern Phone?

Do you think it's possible to get amaysim to honour the rest of the deal?

  • I know their mobile plans are expensive, and they used to try to flog overpriced refurbished iphones. hope their nbn is better.

  • See changes-to-amaysim-home-internet which states:

"Will anything change regarding my plan details once I’ve been switched across?

The good news is that nothing will change regarding the speed, performance or price of your existing home internet plan and your plan details will remain as is once you’re switched across to Southern Phone."

Therefore, you should get the same speed, performance, and price (FREE).

  • The free NBN is part of your energy contract which still exists, so no change.

  • I'm with Amaysim NBN. I didn't get any such notice about them ceasing operation and 'selling' their operations to Southern Phone!

  • My NBN service migrated across this morning but still not working. So much for no downtime.

  • I was with AusBBS who Amaysim own and their NBN services have also been sold to Southern Phone. They're also being transferred during this month. Just wondering jackofspade or anybody else that's received an Amaysim transfer notification if you were advised of your termination rights either in the notice or at at any stage before they moved you over? Also if they didn't advise you of those rights did Southern ask your permission to move you over? My AusBBS notification was we've decided you're going to Southern, they're wonderful, automatic transfer, AusBBS "promise" how Southern will handle my service and any concerns call Southern. Just wondering if they're the same, no mention of termination rights.

  • The questions regarding the content of the Amaysim transfer notifications I mentioned in my previous comment probably aren't as relevant to jackofspade's package deal energy/free internet service as they are to the normal paid data/phone services. Before those services are transferred Amaysim is obligated to advise you of your termination rights and if they don't Southern Phone is obligated to ask for your consent to take over the service. I'm only mentioning termination rights because for some reason they were left off my AusBBS transfer notification. If you've already been transferred and aren't happy and Amaysim didn't advise you of your termination rights before the transfer and Southern Phone didn't ask for your consent to take over the service I'd suggest you check out this information for yourself. If you're in the process of being transferred and don't know what I'm talking about I'd suggest you check it out too so you can make an informed decision. I was still wondering why they left the termination rights off my notification and then I wrote informed decision, and, and, no, I've gone blank. It'll come to me.

    • Amaysim plans are month to month (no contract) so you can cancel or churn to another ISP anytime you want.

  • Thanks for that jackofspade. Different then to AusBBS that had contracts as well as month to month. Last contact I had with ACMA they were having a look at the AusBBS transfer process (I did mention to them I'd expect Amaysim is the same) but I wouldn't expect them to be too fussed about notifying consumers of their rights so just wanted to get it out there that these companies have those obligations before they transfer a service and that's regardless of whether it's month to month or under contract. Thanks again.

  • We were officially notified of being migrated across to Southern on 26/11 and now our speeds are noticeably slower (<25%)and we have dropouts every hour or so. I contacted support and have to provide Speedtest data before they’ll do anything (if anything).
Very disappointed. Now my 6 google minis are useless and 5 xiaomi lights are no longer smart.

  • I hope this helps someone…..
I noticed that the 5ghz wifi signal had disappeared called netcom 2077. I didn’t think much of it at first. Just went around reconfiguring everything to the 2.4ghz called netcom 3584 to try and reconnect. Bit of a poor signal around the house but better than nothing. Then I noticed a wifi signal called SPC wifi 5gz .. hmm SPC ? Fruit, beans? No it’s Southern Phone Company. The silly gits had renamed my wifi without telling me. They must have decided it was “secret telco business”.
    FFS!
Anyway we’re back online with both signals for now. At least they hadn’t changed out passwords. Dropouts seem to still come at regular intervals. But hopefully one signal will help compensate for the dropout of the other. Fingers crossed.

  • Was moved over last week and only experienced a half hour downtime, but upload speed was 1/4 the speed it was before. Thankfully upload speed remained almost the same. A friend had severely reduced upload speed. We can't sign into or up to their portal because neither of the account numbers given work. The public IP assigned no longer traces back to us, so we can't ping our own IP, nor can we connect remotely to our server. I thought it might be just slow in updating the name servers, but it's been over a week now and we still can't connect. Rebooting the router and getting another public IP just comes up with the same problem. They are also not responding to any inquiries. Obviously Southern Phone took on more than they can handle. And as a previous customer of Amaysim, I feel like we were just dumped on a trash heap. Also, to top it off, our internet has been out for the last hour, for no reason, just dead on its ass. I had to use my phone to post this. What a mess!

  • Did anyone else get an email from amaysim advising an increase on the energy rates?
The increase is about 27%. That's ridiculous!
