always get the feeling these free books are short eg 100 pages because somebody wanted to be able to say they published a book on their resumes rather than it’s 4 star rating in amazon on a topic.

just ordered cissp study book printed and it’s 900 pages….. cisco bgp is 400 pages, etc.

    • Is it actually 100 pages?

    • Yeah, calling these ‘books’ is a stretch.

Packtpub books are fairly low value, typically just one person’s overview of the documentation with some narrow examples.

    • It is 384 pages long.

You’ve confused this with Amazon’s KDP which is exactly as you describe.

The last free Packt one I read was Pro Git which is 473 pages and written by Scott Chacon, who co-founded a little startup called GitHub which was last in the news for being acquired by Microsoft for $7.5 bn.

They may not all be masterpieces but I don’t think any of them are even close to the drivel on KDP.

      • I think if that is the 2009 version, I'm not surprised it's free as it was a tiny product, once the money rolled in from GitHub I doubt he would spent time writing.

        • 2009 version? it says will cover something about Kubernetes which released in 2014

    Awesome deal thanks OP!

  • Does anyone have the direct link to claim this book in the Packt library? Whenever a deal like this comes up, I follow the link but then I get a "deal of the day" which is a completely different book. Using the search never seems to turn up the free book in question.

I'd love to know how to figure out the link to the free book, because it never seems to work for me.
