JOYTECH NEO S: One of the best game controllers for 'general' gaming on PC is on special at www.dooverlackies.com for $33.99 with free shipping (from SYDNEY). Insurance $2.90, which I think is optional. Express (courier I think) is offered at higher cost. There are plenty of cheaper controllers on eBay etc, but most are crap and this Joytech one isn't! You get 24 programmable actions etc etc (you can read more on the site, and a LOT more on the independent UK review (above, and also linked to from dooverlackies' site) but the big deal about this one is that it has what is called MOUSE-MIMIK technology which was never really done that well (or at all!) by other manufacturers but is a great idea which should be utilised by every manufacturer I reckon.

Guaranteed authentic Aussie stock, in-stock in Sydney now, for both PC and Mac, so no delays, shipping is done daily.

Item came out at $79.95, even in the UK was about the same price. And please be calm this time (!) and don't hassle me if you think that's not true, because that how much EB sold them for, you can ask them. Even after all this time nobody has come out with a better controller I've seen for the price (maybe any price, except for some Logitech ones, which don't have the same features but are very nice quality too) . But at under $35 it's even better. Anyway, if you can get one anywhere, you're doing well. These are very nicely built, with decent HEAVY construction, you can feel it the first time you touch it. The look-alikes do look very similar, but are of varying degrees of nastiness, and way too light and cheap-feeling. You can tell the real Joytech ones, because it feels like a weapon :) and it comes in much more expensive packaging.

It's also considerably less nerdy than one of those single-game-only type controllers, and it is the exact same shape (and form factor) as the NEO-S controller for Xbox 360. Best controller I've used for PC without a keyboard (although all the buttons are programmable so actions/keys/mouse controls can be programmed as well including MOUSE-MIMIK which is the coolest feature)

The software is crap but he actual joystick is still really good if you don't care about the "advanced" features. Cheapest I've seen this is around $50 on sale so a decent deal.

The joystick looks chunky. I remember the original xbox controller was wayy too big for my hands :)

    Is it comfortable?

    • Good question, yes it is comfortable. And I have to agree, the original Xbox controller was pretty huge. But the next generation was much better designed (and a lot smaller) and was called the "CONTROLLER S". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamepad

Come to think of it, the Neo S is more like the Xbox 360 controller, but more refined for a better fit. The real test is after hours of gameplay, when it still doesn't hurt!

The "Neo S" ("neo" being Latin for "new") was Joytech's way of improving it, so it is a seriously comfy controller. I've used everything from the Neo Geo through to Virtual Boy, the Jaguar through to whatever else, and half the people on this forum probably have too. But this is one of the controllers I've been happy to go back to again and again, and what I like is it works, unlike a heap of those controller-adapter thingies to hook your Playstation controllers up to your PC, remember them?! I wish I could forget, but we didn't have the Neo S back then, so we had no choice.

    • Really does look like an original Xbox controller crossed with a Dreamcast controller :S

  • what does "mouse mimik" actually do?
