yeah was at JB earlier today and had a few instock
just find a friend that has a card and walk straight in, no membership required.
JB yes, I think a lot of EB's only got preorder stock, I know both Melb Central and Emporium don't have stock. A lot of people were getting turned away when I picked up my preorder this morning, but the JB upstairs had stock as a coworker got hers there.
Same with EB stores in Adelaide, they told me they are waiting for their second drop sometime in July.
Whoever thought this was going to be a PS5 situation again has no idea the power of Big Daddy N.
Getting those 10% off gift cards is a problem itself usually runs out with very limited numbers for instore or staff hide them from public also leftovers are small value like $30 so zero point
Odds on finding an Officeworks employee willing to pricebeat this by 5%?
no longer match Costco now
Yeah I meant, odd ons an employee being clueless to that fact and still price beating for me.
The odds are very low.
Won't happen, my mate who used to work at Officeworks said they've cracked down on it and if they get caught, they get a pretty big telling off. I tried to price match once with a Big W Market item and it didn't work. JB is more lenient
Since when can't see it in their t&c
What is excluded from the Price Beat Guarantee?
literally MKW is the only game i want to play but aint shelling out this much for one game
buy it now or buy it in 5 years time..
..it will probably be the same price
Or wait for an OLED version that's definitely coming out
Or a limited edition version, not to mention that hardware revisions are a thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/Switch/comments/t3i3w1/what_are_the…
Can you finish the game within 90 days? If so then just get it from costco and return it before 90 days
I'm gonna rent it from my local Video Ezy.
Fantastic, thanks OP! Helps reduce the cost of the launch (plus game deals from here!)
Been catching the free Early Bird train for work the past 2 years to save for this launch, so every saved dollar counts :)
If you don't have a Costco membership, Nintendo Switch 2 Console + Mario Kart World Bundle is cheaper for $751 delivered (save $8.99 vs Costco) from MyDeal (use EOFY15 coupon) and as a new customer you can qualify for 6% uncapped TopCashback rebate or $36 from Shopback (hit the cashback cap).
Seems to be stock everywhere - I can click and collect at my local Target, BigW, JB or OW
I said months ago that the Switch 2 wouldn't sell out and the fanboys lost their mind. Here we are.
Your average Switch purchaser is a parent buying one so their kid can play Mario. If parents already have a Switch 1 that keeps the kids occupied, they're not going to be rushing out to buy a new $700 model that is functionally (not the specs, which average Joes don't care about) identical in the middle of a cost of living crises and world economic uncertainty.
Very dumb move by Nintendo. Their strength has always been affordability to target parents. Wouldn't surprise me if they eventually realises they need a cheaper console again akin to the GameBoy/DS.
The Switch 2's AUD price is one of the cheapest in the world if you compare it to USD.
However if you compare it to the original AUD price, its still almost 2x. That's not gonna be easy.
Yeah I'm not saying Australian are getting ripped off. I'm not even saying the Switch 2 is overpriced in general.
I'm saying it's the wrong product for their market.
@PainToad: I think it will be a success. Uptake just isn't going to be like the switch. It's going to be more gradual over time.
@Randolph Duke: You could be right. N64 supposedly failed because of lack of third party games and expense of the games. Wii-U supposedly failed because to the mainstream market it wasn't quite clear that it was suppose to be the successor to the Wii. Also the tablet was awkward and gimmicky and 3DS was receiving flagship games like Pokemon. Zelda was delayed also. While most of this doesn't apply the games are expensive.
The Switch 2 isn't lacking 3rd party games by the looks of things but the games are expensive. It is the only real handheld console on the market though and it is backwards compatible with the Switch. The way I see it this is just a cash grab and the price of the Switch 2 and games will drop. Look at past consoles that were expensive or had expensive games. No one buys PS5 games for $109. The PS3 was also insanely expensive when it was released and it went on to outsell the Xbox even though the Xbox had better online gaming.
3DS
Reminder that the 3DS was a massive flop at the start of its life due to being priced too high.
Nintendo was forced to reduce its price from $249.99 US to $169.99 US in only 6 months and then it bounced back. Pricing is very important for the primary market Nintendo targets.
Will history repeat itself? Too soon to say. But things aren't looking good. Seeing all over social media people posting stores with heaps of stock in the US.
@PainToad: Like I said I think it's a cash grab.
The recent trend in the past few years has been consoles getting released with their limited stock being bought up by scalpers. Look at the NES Classic and the PS5.
Nintendo are front running the scalpers by starting off with a high RRP and making sure there are enough units to meet demand. Once sales start to slow I think they will drop the price. People forget the hardware gets cheaper to make over time.
People forget the hardware gets cheaper to make over time.
Unfortunately that isn’t the case most of the time now. This is why MS made the Series S because they knew they wouldn’t be able to substantially reduce the costs of the Series X during its lifecycle.
We have got a good deal compared to the rest of the world (except Japan). It’s also interesting to compare it to previous Nintendo console prices adjusted for inflation:
N64 = $830
GameCube = $720
Wii = $644
@Saver Scott: Yeah but when all those consoles were released Nintendo had a budget handheld option as well (Gameboy, GBA and DS).
Now there is no cheaper option as an entry point to the world of Nintendo.
Also with past generations console prices went down. For many reasons, that doesn't happen anymore. So it's not like Nintendo can expand their market share when they can drop the price.
@PainToad: I think they'll keep selling the Switch 1 for a while, seeing as they had that entire Switch 1 direct a week before Switch 2's.
@Saver Scott: Don't use the adjusted inflation prices. It is to be measured at that point in time what we used to pay not adjusted to current worth
@neonlight: It still doesn’t seem as bad as people are making it out to be. In 1997, when minimum wage was $9.45, the Nintendo 64 cost $399. Minimum wage is now $24.10. People saying Nintendo Switch 2 is too expensive may have misdirected their whinging to the wrong people. Going back to 1997, the average house price was $182,000 - now it’s $976,800. There were also less taxes back then too. People also prioritised their spending differently too. Saying the Switch 2 is too expensive doesn’t make sense when Nintendo’s console prices have always relatively stayed the same.
It would make more sense if there were people saying, “I can’t afford a console right now because the bloody government is making me work more for all their taxes and wasteful spending; there’s also the bullshit prices of houses I have to cop; and I need a new mobile phone for work; and I have to get a new car and those prices went completely nuts and haven’t retuned to normal!”
Nintendo is actually the company keeping prices in line with history. Even if we compare one Japanese company to another, Sony released ModNation Racers 15 years ago and JB Hi-Fi sold it for $120.
People whinging to Nintendo to drop their prices really is invalid and/or misdirected.
@Saver Scott: The Gap is widen alot for the console's RRP $230 difference, compared to original Switch RRP. So many people feel and come to senses that Switch 2 does not justify this price hike, despite inflation and wage. Substantially a lot more than how much wage growth or even inflation in general. So I think its justified people complain about the console price.
If its less than $150 gap I have no issues but not over $200. Its outrages.
Just let Nintendo give in to discounts later. I do not believe Switch 2 will do as good as original Switch, its jsut an iteration of a product not new innovation similar to Wii and original Switch.
its another Wii U all over again, but to a less extend that wouldn't kill Nintendo's business. They have changed their model to milk more money from existing fans, by making LCD model then OLED exact same tactics here will happen. LCD version is a lame excuse. They can OLED but they decided not to.
They also rehash a lot of titles to make it seemly new versions of the old games but the core concepts and gameplay have not changed….
It's a shame really. Nintendo got greedy. Its not the company we used to know, where bring families enjoyment in gaming was the purpose not profits at number 1. Their directions have changed and that's what people don't like
If its less than $150 gap I have no issues but not over $200. Its outrages.
…
LCD version is a lame excuse. They can OLED but they decided not to.
This is the thing that gets me. On the one hand, you can complain about the Switch 2 being too expensive, which is fair enough… And then you immediately turn around to unironically complain that the S2 uses an LCD screen instead of OLED.
Going by retail price, the Switch 2 is only about 8% more expensive than the Steam Deck, while the Steam Deck OLED is almost 40% more expensive than the base model, so you can reasonably argue that an OLED screen would result in a price premium of about 30% extra.
Have you not taken even a second to consider that with today's technology and component prices, you can reasonably expect that a Switch 2 OLED would be around $900 at a minimum, and the consequences of that when so many (including yourself) are already complaining that it's too expense?
@pj1351: Your argument here on OLED is valid, however based on track record Nintendo likely will do a revision model of OLED keeping the same trend as before. If they already released an OLED of Switch v1, what is the reason they cannot do the same on Switch v2 with the same price tag? Nothing but Greed. If the cost of 699.95 RRP has OLED screen then I would think its priced fine, not when its LCD and also charging a difference of $230 at launch.
It is expensive enough already + the fact that it doesn't even come with OLED that's why precisely why its a problem
I'm looking at this as a consumer not economist like above. Fans and Gamers do not like the fact that price gone up and still LCD screen, and if its LCD screen it should be cheaper at that. Its not justified that is all. Even with componets being pricer still $230 is a big ask.
You can't compare Steam deck to Nintendo Switch 2 directly. the only thing is they are both handhelds. Nintendo has the manufacturing process and big enough to acquire components at lower prices.
That's like comparing Asus ROG AllyX to this or even Lenovo Legion etc
If you use Playstation 5 as a comparison they have emphasised they were sold at a loss, here Nintendo is not doing so and upfront asking for a high price, which is hard to swallow.
The strategy for console gaming has always been less on hardware but make profits on titles and games. In this case Nintendo is doing BOTH ripping of all fans!
No Scalpers are involved this time, straight up stealing from Nintendo themselves. Therefore I disagree buying this at launch.
Your argument here on OLED is valid, however based on track record Nintendo likely will do a revision model of OLED keeping the same trend as before.
Yes, and that will happen a few years down the track, once component prices drops while production capacity for the OLED screens increase.
If they already released an OLED of Switch v1, what is the reason they cannot do the same on Switch v2 with the same price tag?
It's literally a bigger screen, at higher resolution, and double the refresh rate. They can't just pull the screens off a S1 OLED and shove it into the S2.
I'm looking at this as a consumer not economist like above.
Being a consumer doesn't mean dropping all sense of rationality.
Sure, I wish I could have a 5090 TI equivalent GPU for the same price as what I would have to pay for an 6800 XT. Give it a few more years, and newer technology will mean that I get something closer to the power range of the 5090 TI at today's 6800 XT prices… But that's simply not going to happen today.
You can't compare Steam deck to Nintendo Switch 2 directly. the only thing is they are both handhelds. Nintendo has the manufacturing process and big enough to acquire components at lower prices.
That's like comparing Asus ROG AllyX to this or even Lenovo Legion etc
But looking at it as a consumer not economist, what would I care about the manufacturing processing and who is able to acquire components at lower prices?
I just need to look at the real-world gaming performance of the Switch 2 as a handheld gaming device compared to these other examples of handheld gaming device that cost anywhere from around the same or even double compared to the Switch 2.
@Saver Scott: Consoles and gaming in general is a cheap form of entertainment nowadays and way cheaper than it was a couple of decades ago or further back. You buy a console and have it for 5+ years, cost over it life isn’t that much, especially compared to earlier generations where there was a new big thing every few years. Also so many sales for games and ports on the switch , it’ll continue to provide countless hours of entertainment for years. I’ve been playing the golf story game I paid $2.25 for, hours of entertainment for next to nothing. Decades ago I dropped more money on my graphics card than the current switch costs to play games like oblivion. When you consider what the switch two offers and its capabilities the price seems as expected. Ozbargain obviously will want it significantly cheaper.
It’s crazy how cheap gaming has gotten over the years. Especially if you don’t care about the latest and greatest. Switch two too expensive, then it’s not for you. Tons of other options. ;)
@Ronnnie: Agreed - It is so much cheaper now. Everyone has a mobile and that has heaps of games on it that are either free or cheap enough to buy; If you have a computer, Epic give away games every week, and there are other services to access games. Steam, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, all sell digital games cheap if you’re willing to wait for a good sale. And they go on sale - my backlog is proof of that. If I was going to wish games were cheaper, it would be for board games cause they can cost a lot and rarely go on sale - they usually go out of print before that happens.
Nailed it, my son is getting old enough now to play some more graphic intensive games on PS5 but the Switch is still there for Mario Cart & Party, SSBM and Boomerang Fu which is a great niche for them to have.
It wouldn’t have sold out regardless of demand as they had months to stockpile.
Kids nowadays get addicted to mobile gacha in game spending spree for a whole lot of nothing but pixels. That or labubu (I know that because my friend is a local scalper and basically controls the market here). Plastic dolls for couple hundreds or some up to thousands with no ETA.
So the switch is decent value adjusted for inflation and the current market. At least the virtual game card family sharing seem to be decent, a feature hardly mentioned.
Sold out in the UK, USA and Japan ran a lotttery so yeah it didnt sell out here but did elsewhere. If you think this wont sell well you dont have a clue.
Nintendo: "We'll do everything we can to make 6~8 million units of the Switch 2 available for sale at launch, and 15 million units during the console's launch window."
The Switch 2 doesn't immediately run out of stock on the first day (at least in Australia).
Some people: surprise Pikachu face
@pj1351: Won't run out. Switch 2 is not a hot item in Australia. Also Kids these days are glued to iPad and Freeium games on mobile.
Switch is no longer the prime platform. For a parent to fork out $760 for a new console and one game is a luxury
Typically parent will buy a new iPad $700+ for productitiy learning and casual games at the same time. Nintendo is losing this market.
If you think this wont sell well you dont have a clue.
Calm down.
Their strength has always been affordability to target parents
Parents have been complaining about new Nintendo console prices since the SNES.
Agreed but because Nintendo was not in good shape when Wii U failed and Switch was the breakthrough, they were trying everything to get numbers up. They could not afford to price the console Switch 1 too high else it's pretty much dead in the water.
However now due to its success now they are getting greedy.
With such high price tag and games more expensive I doubt it will be a good seller to be honest.
$469.95 was the rrp with no game when first released now $699.95 that's $230 difference there
Plenty of stock no need to hurry not enough game library anyway
Costco comes with joy con wheel pair!
That’s a good price for the controller.
Silly billy.
Everyday rewards has 10x points on switch 2, that’s about 7000 points or $35 back
Yes, and for that price, the screen is not even OLED, which we know they will later release the OLED version to milk more $ from us.
Dead right they will do a Switch 2 OLED version with incremental upgrade same like Switch v1 and OLED
So first batch of Guinea pigs will get them for good and get ripped off
No it's sold out everywhere like every console they released well portable I mean.
Where did you hear it wasnt selling?
It's sold out at JB Hifi, Harvey Norman or the Gamemen.
No it hasnt sold out, does that relate to not selling? You dont know if it is selling or not like the rest of us.
Im willing to bet it will sell very well based on overseas pre sales figures.
@Spendmore: Yeh I think the console launches during COVID has muddled people’s noggins a little here. Scalpers having a field day shouldn’t be the norm
@Spendmore: It’s always been normal for consoles that actually have a high demand to sell out initially. The thing that was different with COVID was the demand continued for months/years meaning consoles stayed sold out for ages.
Spin it how you want, but the Switch 2 not selling out at launch isn’t a good sign for the console and/or the state of our economy.
@PainToad: Consoles syayed sold out for ages as there was a backlog in chip manufacturing and logistics which lasted years and led to inflation.
The economy now is feeling the effect of inflation and yeah isnt in a great state but it hasnt for years and we limp on.
Unless Nintendo had a lower per capita condole allowance for overseas markets all indications were it was hard to buy over there and pre sold out.
all indications were it was hard to buy over there and pre sold out
Mate, your fanboy is showing. This is simply not true. Stock is sitting on the shelves all over the US.
@PainToad: Im not a fan boy, dont be immature. A lot of the FB sites were filled with people struggling to secure them, there were news stories of Walmart cancelling orders, UK buyers struggling to secure orders.
Neither of us will know and can only speculate on sales but Im gairly confident it will sell well and so are industry analysts. I look forward to revisiting this conversation in a few months.
@Spendmore: I think if we see drastic Black Friday/Christmas sales it's a good indication it is struggling. Time will tell. Personally I think you'd be crazy to buy yet.
@PainToad: Yeah its an intetesting one, I suspect donkey kong may spur some sales, not sure if we will see much of a drop on black friday its too close to Christmas where they are guaranteed sales.
@PainToad: Using "selling out" as a metric in isolation is just total nonsense… And especially ironic, since people still act like Nintendo regularly creates artificial scarcity as a sale tactic (a reputation originating to Nintendo's actions back in the 80s/90s).
For all that the PS5 was "constantly sold out", that was also because they ONLY had 4.5 million units globally available to even sell during the first 2 months after its launch. And that was also during a time where protection against scalpers was immature or virtually non-existent, so demand vs supply continued to be distorted for extended periods of time.
While it's obviously too early to tell, Nintendo explicitly stated that they were targeting 6~8 million units of the Switch 2 supplied at launch. That's already somewhere between 50% to 75% additional number of units available at launch versus 2 months following launch.
And comparing launch window vs launch window? We're talking about 4.5 million units available for sale vs a production target of 15 million units.
@PainToad: Didnt take long, NS2 sold 3 million units at launch, nearly the all time sales for steam deck. Set to be highest selling nintendo console.
@Spendmore: To be fair, I don't think the 3 million claim has been officially confirmed by Nintendo yet.
On the other hand, there does seem to be signs that they're starting to run lower on allocated stock. For me (located in Melbourne's northern suburbs), EB Games is reporting no stores with stock within 600km for the MKW bundle, while JB Hi-Fi is only showing it as pre-order with collection available on 16/6.
For the standalone version of the Switch 2, both are currently only showing stock immediately available in stores >20km away, and JB only having C&C order in nearby stores for 16/6 and onwards.
For now, it looks like Big W and Target are the other way around for the standalone vs MKW bundle. Might look at how it changes over the next couple of day.
@pj1351: Multiple sources cite those figures I just didn't want to paste a load of links. I found the same here in WA with all my local EB/JB out of stock. FB is full of people either unable to get one or showing off that they did.
@Spendmore: Officially announced figures turned out to be over 3.5 million in 4 days.
A bit less spectacular compared to "3 million in 24 hours", though one could speculate that Nintendo might be deliberately conservative with the figure so that when the next milestone hits, the jump from "(over) 3.5 million" to whatever "X million", it'd look even better.
Either way, there will be a lot of coping and seething on the social medias as this news spreads.
Good joke.
Hopefully Amazon price matches the Pro controller.
HODL till black Friday?
at least 100 off black friday i'm thinking
Yup don't do it, it's not needed and not worth it atm
It's not much difference unless you into 4k gaming
Why switch 2 can be purchased nationwide with (seemingly) plenty of stocks in retailers, while japanese players have to play a lottery and be a winner to be qulified to get one in Nintendo's domestic market.
https://www.ign.com/articles/as-nintendo-switch-2-launches-i…
Every country except Japan has inflated pricing. The Switch 2 in Japan is also only single-language, so if you don't mind the Japanese only Operating System you can pick up a non-bundle Switch 2 there for the equivalent of $540 AUD and save a bit of money.
Sold out pre order across the US.
I will check back in June 2026.
@Spendmore: Not everyone is interested in the Switch 2. I hope the Switch 2 bombs worse than the Wii U.
@ackeron: Here you are posting on a NS2 deal it must be living in your head lol.I hope you grow up one day for your own sake.
There is stock available everywhere. I'd suggest grabbing some 10% off JB/EB vouchers (Ultimate cards) from Coles and getting the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle for $700 essentially.
