@ackeron: Lol seen the estimated sales figures, looks like it nearly sold the same on release as the steam deck total sales. Guess your hopes were dashed.

                • -1

@Spendmore: I am interested in the long term sales.
Outselling the steam deck is not much of an achievement.

                  • @ackeron: Well it has sold 10 x as much as Wiiu in the first 48hrs, certainly not bombing.

      • +1

It’s really hard to get one in Japan for that price at the moment though.

      • If these launch models turn out to be easy to hack, maybe the language can be changed…

  • +1

Why switch double price now days 😭

    • 4% min wage inflation.

      • Prices would go up regardless of wage increases.

    • +1

      Cause the world.

    • 10 years ago the latest samsung phone released at just over a grand, now look.

      • And they're crap same with apple lol 5 year old technology being sold for extortionate prices.
But it's like the US.. Ban Huawei because they can't compete.. now Chinese tarrifs. Its all a common theme.. can't beat them you need to defeat them.

The only losers are consumers. Buy a steamdeck and run a switch emulator.

        • +1

How will a steam deck that is less powerful than the switch 2 emulate its games?

          • -4

@Spendmore: You sir have not done any research… Fast clock speeds, 16gb LDDR5 ram vs 9. 1tb nvme SSD etc
The list goes on.. OLED vs no OLED and a steam deck 2 is coming soon along with z2 processors in October. That will be about 4 switches in 1.

Remember the switch 2 is a 2021 processor.

            • @Combo64: Its widely known the NS2 will perform better than the steamdeck, as for emulation the steamdeck struggles with NS1 emulation, if it was such a viable optio n then I guess it would have been more popular.

If you know anything about emulation you would know you lose efficiency in the system when emulating.

              • -1

@Spendmore: We only mention steamdeck because it is the most stable however not the fastest.

The other handhelds are much, much faster such as offerings from OneXFly which offer OLED 144hz, HX370 processor etc. It truly is a walk in the park for handhelds to emulate and do better.

We're talking a mobile APU designed for high-performance gaming and content creation vs just a console.

                • +1

@Combo64: Can you cite any references where Switch 2 is being emulated “as a walk in the park”

                  • -1

@Randolph Duke: Sorry for my figure of speech.
I'm not here to discredit any people or teams who spend countless hours making emulators. I'm sure it takes them months to perfect and create such as existing emulators such as retroarch and having that on so many platforms and consoles.

The Nintendo switch emulator is fluid and just like you're playing a switch! So I'm sure it's not just a walk in the park to create whilst they make it look that way.

                • @Combo64: I would ise my gaming pc for content creation or a laptop, when im on a flight i want just a console, a handheld pc is just for on the move. I have a gaming pc when I am home it is quite powerful and yet emulation still feels off, boot it up, load emulator, load rom then sit right in front of a screen……nah. Also there is no way you can nominate anything close in price that is better I suspect I would be looking at a $1500 clunky handheld mini pc that would still do janky emulation.

Don't forget the NS2 software is fully optimised for its hardware.

                  • -1

@Spendmore: Ok bud.. you go has your gaming PC on a train, car, bus or at work then lol.

Nintendo has to optimise it's software because of the crappy hardware. On faster systems that's mitigated with sheer power. Why do we think Nintendo cracked the sads over Yuzu?

You need to keep in mind we're talking

                    • @Combo64: An Anbernic can run most of those lol, ill use that. Sheer power, your steam deck? Clueless.
I love how the new switch is under your skin, you cant keep away from its deals posts.

                    • @Combo64:

Sure, sheer power can overcome lack of optimisation, but that's only when there's enough power overhead that it can overcome the difference.

Even top of the range desktop PCs will sometimes struggle with poorly optimised PC ports, and that's without the additional burden of emulating a different hardware.

Handheld PC don't have such luxury, as on top of the emulation, they still have to deal with balancing act of power/heat/battery life.

People mock Switch games for running sub-native resolutions, but go to any thread about handheld PC gaming, and it's all full of discussions about how to set low/medium settings and upscaling from 540p to achieve the "golden 40" and get more than an hour of battery life.

Having devs optimising games to play to the strengths (and mitigating the weaknesses) of a single predictable hardware configuration means that the end user don't have to waste their time with doing any of that to highly varying results.

              @Combo64:

That will be about 4 switches in 1

              In price maybe…

              • @smartazz104: Well if you go a 4tb nvme that's about $500 alone.. so depends on the specs you want.

When I was checking out at Costco gold coast they said they had sold four of these today

    • Lady at JB said it had been hectic with the NS2 sales.

Costco is not going to be on most ordinary folk's mind when they think of a place to buy a Switch 2.

When I ducked out to grab my S2 this morning (around 11am) at EB, the four customers in front of me were all picking up a S2, and since I stuck around a bit to have a look at the games and S2 accessories, I found out that the five other customers behind me were also there for a S2.

Shitloads left in adelaide. Can walk into good guys, harvey and jb and get one. Have a voucher and was hoping for a better price but i'll wait till black friday

    • They're absolutely everywhere. All my local retailers I can click and collect for.

      Z2 processors are supreme.

  • How much is Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 at costco

  • Am debating if I should finally renew my Costco membership to get the controller… hmm…

    • +1

      1- renew membership
      2- buy controller
      3- get a hot dog
4- cancel membership on your way out.

      Win-win
