I've never found the air quality meter to be particularly accurate, so probably not worth spending the extra $$$ for it.
Bad air reader besides my Purifier 2 has definitely helped. I'm exposed to sick people daily so I use it to try and prevent others in the house getting sick. The filter also catches a good amount of dust and helps airflow on those hotter nights.
Oh and it definitely helps if your cat or dog has had an accident ;)

From reading the thread linked, it doesn't seem like the replacement filters are easily available? Is that an issue for anyone who has bought it?
I use Philips air purifiers throughout my apartment and am most happy with these - but they aren't as cheap. They do a great job of sucking up dust (evident on the filters) and pet fur.

eBay is good as they sell the purple version designed for the flu season. Some generic branded ones can be had for even cheaper as that style of filter is universal for a lot of purifiers.
The air reader isn't very good (tested against a stone alone reader), but the machine actually works.
I live in the middle of Bangkok, and I can guarantee it has made a different to the air quality in my home. My partner and I used to wake up with fairly sore throats, but after buying one, we noticed a different overnight.
Filter probably lasted around 9 months non-stop use on the auto mode.
Probably helps if you have allergies, but not finding it that useful in normal circumstances in Australia really.

It definitely helps with cooking odour.
Good price, had one but it always showed that the air quality in Melbourne is 1 (lowest possible), so couldn't find much use of it
