I receieved this deal through an email; it doesn't seem to be listed on their normal pricing page, and assume it was meant for the eyes of ex-users only. It seems like you book a plan in advance and it becomes available on the 20th. I don't know if there are a limited number of slots available at this price.

I am using Speedify instead now because I acquired it cheaply via Humble Bundke, but PureVPN was better because it has a larger range of countries to choose from.

Bought one of these 5 yr license deals before from stack social. The account is marked as 'free account's as the account type and speed is very slow for me and I am using NBN 50 (I am not tech savvy either this 'free' account is throttled or all of their servers are slow). Good for browsing not recommended for torrents or streaming
Also happy to be proven wrong but don't think you can get dedicated IP with 'free account', has to be premium account to buy a dedicated steaming ip)

they gave the log to FBI…..

    • They gave the FBI the IP log of who accessed their services.

They don't keep logs of user activity and what the user does on their system. Therefore under their promise they didn't breach anything.

      • +1

This guy thinks that VPNs that reveal their users identity aren't breaking any promises. He just uses a VPN to slow his traffic down so it works out well.

        • +1

If you read their agreement on their site properly it actually isnt breaking it. You are just assuming. Please find the clause it breaks before assuming.

Actually VPN's original purpose wasn't to hide identities. It was to offer a secure channel to transmit data.

Really for all intents and purpose it does it fine for most users. However if you wanted to do something unsavory and need to total anonymity then PureVPN maybe not for you. Actually no VPN service provider is good for you since you don't have 100% visibility of what they do store or don't until it hits the news. Lol.

Best to go TOR if you want that anonymity…

          • @lplau: TOR exit nodes are apparently high priority for the NSA, and the NSA keeps all encrypted data they intercept indefinitely, until they can decrypt it (while decrypted or unencrypted data is deleted if found not to be useful).

But it's still one of the best anonymising methods out there (I use VPNs for bypassing geolocked content, so anonymity is not a priority for me).

A log correlating the actual IP of a user to their VPN exit point at a particular point in time is clearly a log. This is what they provided to the Feds, and this is what anyone using a VPN wouldn't want to have happen.

Also VPN's were never meant to "hide identities" - it happens by extension if the service is secure. The service is insecure due to them holding logs of users, and in that sense it fails the original purpose for which 99% (if not all) of users take it up for.

      • They gave the FBI the IP log of who accessed their services.

They don't keep logs of user activity and what the user does on their system.

I would presume the FBI already knows what the user was doing, and wants to track them. And it was obviously something naughty or the FBI wouldn't have enquired about it. With the IP address, and their own knowledge of what people were doing, it's easy to put 2 and 2 together.

    • Interesting thing I read that if a VPN restricts how many simultaneous connections you can make, then it is keeping logs (otherwise it couldn't limit your access to a set number of devices).

Most of the VPNs that claim they "keep no logs" mean they must keep logs to limit simultaneous connections, then delete them when the connection(s) are closed (but technically they keep logs at least temporarily).

I have 5 year subscription, tried to use it in china, most of the times didn't work. Puffin browser worked better than this lol

    • Works fine for me a couple of years ago, from beijing connecting to singapore (?) server. It does disconnect every hour or so tho.

    • Are you saying puffin comes with free VPN? What benefit of puffin pro over free version?

      • +1

Puffin proxies all the traffic through a few servers, (the traffic between Puffin browser and the servers is encrypted), both to enable the viewing of Flash content, (servers transcode it), and for data savings.

From Australia this is usually Singapore or the USA.

It's an easy way to access government blocked sites, (eg. TPB), you can get Puffin for Windows.

I use it all the time in Incognito mode, picked up Puffin Pro on Android from accumulated Opinion Rewards.

  • Up until my subscription ran out a few weeks ago, I was a happy purevpn user. Only issue I had was trying to watch college basketball when it would work, and then about 20mins later it would kick me out and then I would have to reconnect. Torrent and streaming speeds were fine

  • If I am going to Watch streaming video it is still worth buying lifetime deal?

Been using for years, pretty flaky and the app is awful. Often crashes and takes ages to load even on brand new high end machines.

They never seem to improve it

Also the mobile app has never worked for me

    • Been using for years, pretty flaky and the app is awful

It's probably easier to just install OpenVPN and download their openvpn profiles so you don't have to use the app

  • +1

I used them for a few years and their servers were always flakey with poor speeds.

Switched to ExpressVPN and haven't had issues since.

  • I bought this deal last year after being on a 2 year plan with pure vpn.5 people can be logged on at any one time, so you can share it with multiple trusted friends, it has a useful Android app. I really like the Windows extension onto Firefox and Chrome just click onto Germany or Denmark etc then within seconds you can surf your favourite torrent sites or click on UK and start watching BBC. it does slow your connection but no worse than any other VPN. I've never had any issues with PURE VPN but i have had issues with other VPN'S that i subscribed to, so that's why i stay with PURE VPN.

  • I booked the service but i didn't get notified.
Visited the link today and I was able to activate the service.
I couldn't find the Firefox add-onn and the ios app though
