1.6k Graphics Card Left at my door step. Signature was required.

Hi all,

I ordered in a GPU from Mwave and paid extra for a Saturday delivery. The delivery time frame was meant to by between 1-6pm.

The only tracking information I received from Mwave was that it had reached the courier depot, so Star Track had it.

I was given an Item number rather than a tracking number, I've attempted to contact star track multiple times and they were unable to find that item number on their system. Couldn't contact Mwave either as it was out of office hours for them.

They had left it at my front door between 9pm and 11pm (I know it was around this time as I had people leaving and coming) . One of my friends noticed it as he was leaving at 11pm, I had not signed it and they also did not knock, I was by the door the whole night and also have 2 dogs which would have noticed.

Now my issue with this is that on their site Mwave clearly states signature is required and that couriers are not authorised to leave it at a door step.

If my friend hadn't found it, it may have been stolen because I never would have noticed it.

Now, technically I can claim I never received the device because no one had signed for it.

What should I do?

You received it in the end, just leave it alone, end of story.

If it was stolen, then that would have been a different story. Or if you do feel so inclined, just let Mwave know about it so they can improve their processes.

Yeah, I'll definitely give them a ring. Honestly just so gutted at the fact that it could have been stolen.

Bit dramatic. If it was stolen then you would have got a refund anyway given the signature was required and not obtained.

looking for excuse to commit fraud?

You got your card. Let Mwave know their courier is once again being careless. Maybe ask for postage to be refunded.

So you're asking on a public forum if you should commit a morally and legally corrupt act and steal from a supplier who would have to bear the cost of your lie?

    I'd go with option (2).

    • I mean, legally speaking they were never meant to leave the parcel at my doorstep if I had not signed for it. I'm honestly just so frustrated that this happened. Don't intend on being a scumbag but can't deny that it crossed my mind.

Eh. Life's too short to get worked up over "could've beens" (good or bad). You should've gotten the card, you got your card. I'd say enjoy your gaming and don't worry about it. Your long-term cardiovascular health will thank you.

I mean, it's a graphics card soooooo :smirk:

Don't actually do that by the way OP. This isn't (tmk) something they'd just shrug off. Graphics cards tend to be expensive enough to follow up.

All ended well, honestly I'd just move on with your life. At worst just shoot them a PM

*Just looked at the price in the title. Absolutely don't think about it again. 1.6k'll absolutely be looked for.

Change is only bought by action. Doing nothing will result in this issue continuing to other customers who may have less favourable outcomes.
I say teach the courier company a lesson and get a second card and sell it to me for half price. Win-Win (for me)

    • Yeah, then OP gets arrested for fraud. Are you going to pay their legal fees?

        … Half?

  • Now, technically I can claim I never received the device because no one had signed for it.

    No, that’s illegal.

I would be contacting MWave and asking for shipping to be refunded and I would be polite but firm about it. Be prepared to be told “No” and have to have it escalated.

They had left it at my front door between 9pm and 11pm

I’d also be contacting StarTrack and asking for an expaination. Why was it delivered so late?

  • What should I do?

Call up mWave and tell them that StarTrack is risking thousands of dollars of their merchandise. But you've received it and it (presumably) works, so that's that.

  • i'd def let the company know. sure you got your package this time, but if someone doesn't give that driver a kick up the ass, someone is gonna lose a package soon, and could potentially have a huge hassle getting it replaced.

    • ^This. I also buy expensive items online occasionally and would be extremely upset if I was in the same position. Though I also like to refresh my tracking number every hour or so I can try to prevent theft in this scenario.

      • That's the thing. The only tracking number I received (to this day) still says it has been delivered to the depot. For some reason they gave me the tracking between the seller and the courier if that makes sense. I had received no email indicating it has arrived / been delivered or anything like that.

  • If you paid extra for the signature, at least get a (partial) refund for the shipping?

Just be honest. You never know, these things can go to court and you'd be lying in a court of law. All for a GTX 2080.

Didn't pay extra for signature per se, there was no option for that. Paid extra for a Saturday delivery.

Yeah I realised what I said was stupid hence edited my thread. Was just blind anger / frustration talking.

  • StarTrack (AusPost) would have likely taken a photo of where the item was left, together with the GPS location. they would have also recorded the date/time.

    • But still someone could of taken it after they took the photo with record of date/time and failed to get a signature.

Call up MWave and ask them where your item is.

When they tell you it has been delivered, simply ask who signed for it.

  • I would sue them for the potential loss you could have suffered.

  • so you received the card?

    whats the problem?

the postie obviously decided it was in a safe enough spot

Here’s a tip, if you’re worried about packages left on doorstep don’t shop online.

Auspost will regularly drop it off regardless of instructions and occasionally deliver to wrong address too, literally giving away your purchase(that’s when you have a claim)

Get a parcel locker if you don't want to have to risk deliveries being stolen.

  • I've had stuff stolen before that was meant to be signature on delivery. Ebay said they had confirmation of delivery from the courier and the courier said the seller gave them authority to leave so they left it in "a safe place" which was on top of my mailbox, which you can reach over the fence and clearly visible from the road and the foot path. I'd ring up mwave and get a refund on postage. You didn't get the service you paid for, which was signature on delivery, which is illegal under ACL. They sold you a service which they didn't provide. You should at least get a partial refund on postage. If you don't complain dodgy couriers will keep getting away with it.

While I agree with complaining to StarTrack and MWave so that they'll have some reason to improve, OP didn't buy signature on delivery, OP bought Saturday delivery (which happened). MWave bought signature on delivery, and so yes, they should get a refund on postage from StarTrack.

  • It should have gone to the post office if no one was home.

  • This is what i'd do. It might not work like this but what i think logically would happen

Firstly check on your package whether it says signature required.

If it does, Startrack would be the issue. Hypothetical, you would tell Mwave they would hound Startrack about the issue and force them to show the signature on their system.

Just get a declaration demonstrating it definitely isn't your signature and Startrack will pay out the next GFX card

If it doesn't say signature required, Mwave would probably pay yourself out for a new one.
