    cracker deal for 4c/8t cpu + 1060 (assume full-fledge non-maxQ ?) at under 1.3k

    • +1

Just checked description appears to be Max-Q. I'll update post
EDIT: I've hit the character limit in title. Is in description

    • A stunning view: With up to NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 graphics with Max-Q Design Technology and up to 6GB GDDR5 video memory, gameplay is clear and detailed.

    • It's max Q, although due to the thermal competence of the chassis, it does get pushed and the performance gap is very minimal compared to a normal 1060. Check some youtube reviews benchmarks.

I hope no one is worried about the screen quality. I think many reviews really exaggerated how bad the screen is.

I have it and it's a perfectly fine IPS display.

    • What is your battery life like?

    • Interesting, this is one of my major concerns with pulling the trigger on this lappy…

      • It was for me as well to the point I bought a 120hz TN panel. I prefer the 60hz IPS. Could of saved $150.

    Great, thanks for this.

This will be a great desktop replacement + school laptop for my gamer kid :)

    • Lucky kid! It's a beast but I wouldn't want to carry it around in my backpack. It's hefty.

      • +2

Pfft, hefty? Maybe compared to an ultrabook. But 2.6kg isn't too bad, it's about the same as the old 15" MacBook Pro.

        • Also the power brick, stationary, text books, rations. It adds up.

    • And 2 or so hours of battery usage? I have thought about this a lot for friends, and I end up recommending a real desktop and tablet with keyboard for the portable side. There is not much in productivity that cannot be achieved with a cheap Android tablet(SD cards are cheap). 99% of what school kids need is simply word processing and maybe a little mobile browsing.

Hmm the gtx 1050ti model looks good….and i think it has the ports on the right side? Unfortunately it has no HDD and only 8gb of RAM…and i dont think ebay lets you customize it?

    • +1

If you're going to get another drive might as well upgrade to the 1tb/1060 from an extra $150.

      1060 destroys the 1050ti.

      • This is probably the best option and just sticking another 8GB stick of RAM in it.

      • But the 1tb option only has a 128GB SSD…and it doesnt look like you can upgrade to a 256gb? Not to mention the 1tb is a 5400rpm…

        Whats screen quality like btw?

        • Personally, I just have Windows and programs on my SSD. All my games are on the 1tb HDD.

Yea, it's 5400rpm but once a game loads, it's not a big deal to me.

Plus, you can upgrade both drives in the future but you can't the graphics card.

The screen is fine. Nice viewing angles, good colour.

    • You might be able to ask for the extra RAM and HDD by contacting them and they create a custom listing.
      Alternatively theres this one with an i7-8750, 16GB RAM, GTX1050TI, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD for $1439.
You could also upgrade it yourself, it has an extra hard drive bay with caddy so it and an extra memory stick slot.

Just on Dell's custom listings: I contacted them last month about an option screen upgrade but they said they only do custom listings for warranty and operating system upgrades, not hardware.

  • Anyone have suggestions about this one

It seems alright but i've been very disconnected from Computers for a while now.

I've pretty much decided on this one for my son. He is only 10, so I didn't want to spend more than around $1500 (he wants an Alienware or a HP Omen!). He is paying $1000 which he has saved and I will make up the difference for his Christmas present. This one is $1600 with the 20% off code.

My other choice is a custom-built Metabox while the Black Friday sale is still active. I can get a much better system for $1695.

Very nice laptop. Wish I had something like this when I was 10 LOL

    • Only difference between that one and the one listed is an i7 instead of i5.
Its a $160 price difference, not sure if I would go with it unless I needed the extra processing power.
I guess its good for future proofing.
