First post, I thought I'd share the monitor I just bought at Mwave. It's hard to get a 144hz 1440p for some reason in Australia but Mwave have about $70 off this Acer XF270HU right now. I know that Dell and Acer do have new monitors on the market, so hopefully this is the first of many price drops for this type of older monitor.

Specs:

* Brightness 350 cd/m²
* Response Time 4 ms

      Isn't that TN

      • yes it's TN, i was just going to post that

          yes, for gaming TN > IPS, for normal usage IPS > TN.

          at 144hz or 155hz, with freesync, i will assume people use them primarily for gaming purpose.

          response time is 1ms :)

          • @wayne2019: IPS > TN for gaming and everything.

            With TN, its cheaper for more hz.

            @wayne2019: The newer TN panels on the way will blur those lines a fair bit, but that doesn't apply to anything currently released.

          • @wayne2019: The unnecessary resolution, IPS panel and adaptive sync tech (although its freesync so its included for free so we can ignore that as a bonus) remove anything eSports 'gaming' about them. That said just because when we think gaming performance we think eSports games doesn't mean that an Ips panel with sync and a crisper resolution and smoother framerqte wouldnt be well used by singleplayer gamers. 4ms 144hz 1440p sync is good enough for casual gamers to play any title, but the commenter's point is that it's not the specs youll want for proper eSports gaming.

  • They had a free shipping deal about a week ago, so you would've only had to pay $579. I was about to get this until i realised my amd gpu probably wont reach 144fps on this

    • I did get a few things delivered free from them while PAX was on but I had to buy an Ironwolf hard drive to get the free delivery.

      • They had an offer for free shipping with $250 min spend. Not sure why you would buy a hard drive to get 'free shipping'

  • Kogan's Curved 27" QHD Freesync display goes for $449 add $20 for shipping. I picked it up for $349 during presale.

    • I saw this - how does it perform?? Are you happy??

      • I got mine a couple days ago and am quite happy so far. It's the same as the Viotek GN27D (but with a different stand), which has lots of reviews. Kogan doesn't advertise most of the features but they're all there, with pixel overdrive being the most important.

        Comparing to my LG 24GM79G (144hz TN 1080P) the response time is slightly slower playing CSGO but nowhere near as different as I expected with it being VA. It's a very small difference and with pixel overdrive on medium it feels just as good, both have similar ghosting that doesn't distract. My Kogan 144hz TN 24" (model without FreeSync and no pixel overdrive feature) felt worse.

        With it being a modern Samsung panel and not a botched implementation, the fact that it's VA shouldn't scare anyone off in this case. You can look at reviews of the Samsung CHG70 to see what the panel itself is capable of which is quite impressive for VA, and the rest is down to implementation (which Samsung probably does better, but the Kogan is certainly good enough I think considering that the Samsung is $750).

        I'll do some testing tonight with real dark games as that's where the real difference will lie between it and my LG, but for my purposes of CSGO it's absolutely capable and it's so close to my LG in response time that you should be looking at 240Hz instead if you need better performance IMO. Anything else you want to know just ask.
