Still rocking my Xiaomi 34" ultrawide after 4 years with similar spec. Always wanted one of these though but was hard to justify at over a grand back then.

    • +2

How good are they! I've got 4 of these and they've never let me down.

      • Yep, was a OzBargain fav and got mine through Gearbite, is a great monitor!

    • do you have the ozbargain link to this? I'm in the market for a gaming monitor and not keen to spend more than a grand, will start looking out for these

    • yeah, Mi 34" is solid as, also using a dell 24" UltraSharp portrait as side monitor for emails and comics.

    • Until they go on the blink! Mine packed it in a month or so ago. Backlight on but nothing as far as display.

    • Wouldn't believe it, after posting this, 1 of them has gone fully pixelated lol, god dammit.

  • Or HP omen 34c g2 on ebay pretty much at same price. Same VA Incase anyone ask.

  • Is this good for productivity + rare occasion of gaming? I've heard O-LED has risk of burn in for productivity so this VA might be good for it??

    • -2

Overkill, you don't need 180Hz and all the other gaming-specific features

      • Good luck finding a decent VA ultrawide for this price point for office use

        • -2

There's half a dozen 34" VA WQHD 180Hz monitors (brand new) out there between $300-$400AUD, what makes this Alienware better than something like this fast-VA Philips monitor?

          • +1

            @CrispyChrispy: replied below but

"Also most I've found under or around this price are 300 nits or below the Alienware is 400… they all low but that 100 is a big damn difference.
Saying that I have a Gigabyte G34WQC2 at 450nits and find it decent and at $429 right now would be what I would buy again."

      • Yeah but I can't find an UltraWide this cheap other than this. (they are usually 700+)
I know this will lack productivity features such as Thunderbolt and PD charging but can sacrifice this if it's good

This is a 34" curved IPS for $199
Get a cheap monitor arm for about $50 and you'll have a decent screen for productivity.

            @teddiebear: 10 yo model.

And I would never go out to get a new screen now that only runs 60hz, even if it is for productivity.

I have dual 34" ultrawides for office productivity, one is 240hz (OLED) and the other is a 100hz VA. Anything greater than 80hz makes for a smoother Word/Excel/Outlook experience over 60hz.

          • @teddiebear: now we comparing "refurb" etc if we talking "refurb" or used that changes everything…

Also most I've found under or around this price are 300 nits or below the Alienware is 400… they all low but that 100 is a big damn difference.
Saying that I have a Gigabyte G34WQC2 at 450nits and find it decent and at $429 right now would be what I would buy again.

There actually are a few deals on right now compared to last week so does help but simple things like peak brightness makes a big difference

        • There's a bunch of ultrawides with similar if not identical specs under $400 AUD brand new out there, where you are looking?

          • +1

@CrispyChrispy: True. A simple google search brings up tons of 34" monitors under $400 new. Most have similar specs, maybe 15hz difference.
Some even have a business cashback or gift cards when purchased.
This prime sale has crap offers this year! Most items can be had for the exact same price throughout the year with various/random sales. Same as 'black friday'. It's a joke now imho.

          • @CrispyChrispy: Mate your link says refurb….. 2nd one shows 300nits peak brightness

I pointed out another the gigabyte similar specs myself

$443 on Dell official website if using AFFCB11%:

  • Got excited for a sec lol

    • Cold water helps in this situation.

  • -1

Man this alienware doesn't even have an rgb on the back

    • +3

I think you need to educate yourself on 'Mindfulness' instead.

    • +2

Because this is neither of those. It's 3440 x 1440 , which is vastly more pixels than 1080p.

    • Not everyone needs 4k 300Hz 1ms

    • 3440 x 1440 is great to split a screen into 2 for document reading / writing and working with some code side by side etc… what I use mine for mainly

      • -1

i do same with spreadheets as well… but since swithching to 2160 vertical… holy crap i can't go back.

  • -1

Currently cheaper on dell.com for $444.47 with Coupon DNCPAU11%

  • What’s the best version of these, these days? I have a first gen X34, looking to upgrade. I like that gentle curve (1800R). Is OLED burn-in that big an issue? Are we no longer striving for 240hz?

  • -1

Can't see any mention of HDR10 on the specs for this, even on Dell's site or the manual. So I assume it doesn't support HDR10.
