$443 from dell using DNCPAU11. https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/alienware-34-curved-gaming-m… Would be $1 cheaper buying from Amazon if you have 10% Amazon gift card. Otherwise dell is cheaper.

    • Amazing price! I thought I snagged a deal a few weeks ago when I got one for $508 after corporate discount.

      • Thoughts as a user? Need a big a$$ monitor mainly for work.

        • +1

Don't. You'll likely find 1440 vertical pixels is severely limiting, not to mention it's a VA panel.

          • @billy77: Thanks Billy.

          • @billy77: I use a Samsung 5120x1440 ultrawide for work and absolutely love it. Definitely prefer it over using two separate monitors (had that setup in the past).
I’ve had no issues at all with the 1440 vertical resolution. I typically run three equally sized windows side-by-side, like Outlook, Excel, and either Teams or Acrobat, and it works great for productivity. The ultrawide format makes multitasking smoother and way more efficient.

          • @billy77: I love using my ultrawide for work, great for multi RDP sessions, Vmware console or OneNote and Outlook.

Woudlnt go back to dual monitors, if anything Id go larger ultrawide

I bought it primarily as a gaming monitor. Text on this is noticeably less sharp compared to a Dell 4k 27" monitor.

          • +3

@SingleMalty: Of course, this is just a 27 inch 2k but wider. Can't compare to 4k regarding to sharpness

            • @ce5himm: Oh definitely! I'm not fussed as I primarily use the laptop screen in my line of work, and only very occasionally use a bigger 2nd screen for the odd bit of Excel work.

But for anyone that's thinking about this as their primary work monitor and have been spoilt by 4k text crispiness :-) , this may not be the right monitor for you.

          • @SingleMalty: And how much was that monitor?

            • @budgie67: If you're referring to the Dell 4k 27", it was a little over $300 after the usual corporate discount (either 10% or 15% at the time, can't remember).

        • +2

Depends on your work, I use an ultrawide with the same resolution for mostly document creation without issue, but prefer my setup of 2 standard monitors in most cases.

I have found that I have to get creative when IT needs to remote into my computer though, as it scales badly on their side and makes it almost impossible for them to see anything.

        • g3223q if it still can be bought (maybe check Dell outlet) has been perfect for me, primarily work and sometimes gaming

          32" check
          4k check
          IPS check
          144hz check
          gsync check

text is super clear, running 100% (no scaling) in windows. colours amazing. fast panel.

yeah black levels aren't stellar but come on can't have everything at that price

      • Interesting, only need an ABN to join? Can you stack with Amazon GC as well?

        • Yep, just need an ABN. Not sure about stacking GC’s.

Sorry for my ignorance, but where can I get a 10% Amazon gift card? The lasttime this happened from memory was aldi.

      • Not very often, but when it happen you need to stock up. Mine was stocked up from black Friday.

    • You just saved me $50. Thank you!

Note: VA panel. That's a no-go for many people.

    • I haven't looked into monitors for a while but why is a VA panel not great? If using it for primarily spreadsheets and presentations, is it fine?

      • +8

For work, VA is perfectly fine. I use a LG 160hz utlrawide VA for work, no issues. Type C, etc.

For gaming, there's notable smearing. Some people say it's overbloated as an issue but at least for mine (which is a few year old panel) - I can ABSOLUTELY tell the difference between my 27" IPS 170hz and my VA ultrawide for smoothness/transition times. There is a notable pixel 'drag' (smear) in games/even when shifting screens across or moving between desktops for work but I don't care/notice it enough for work purposes. I've used it for a casual FPS match or two in pubg, and it wasn't game-breaking, but still noticeable.

        • Another issue with certain VA panels is that they can flicker rapidly with a changing refresh rate - e.g. if you have freesync enabled. I found it really irritating on a cheap viewsonic VA I had, and from a quick google it seems to be a somewhat common issue. This is separate to the dark smearing issue, which I also noticed. The workaround I used was to disable vrr/set a framerate cap, which is obviously not ideal.

Some of the higher end VA panels are much better in these regards, but I would be cautious of buying one unless you can try it in person or get firsthand reviews on how it behaves.

        • Depends on your work…

      • I mean worse is worse. With that logic you would just get the cheapest barely functional monitor

      • +1

I've never seen a VA panel without ghosting or inverse ghosting, usually pretty bad

    • Thanks, was looking for this.

  • VA?

    • At this price, there is no other possibility

      • There is in the current climate, but you are correct, so the question becomes 'what company's VA and what are the acutal response time measurements?'

If this is a lower binning of the Samsung/TCL tech that went into their 240Hz 32:9 VAs, then great. If it's a mild upstep from their budget 21:9 144Hz-165Hz offerings, it's a hard pass.

        Technical review data required.

    • It is VA. Probably a deal breaker for many.

  • any recommendations for a gaming monitor such as this with usb-c power delivery? can't seem to find in their current lineup for gaming series.

    Usage:
primarily plugged into windows gaming pc through display port
should support for usb-c power delivery when plugging in laptops / macbooks

    • This was exactly my use-case when I was researching into my recent purchase. Wasn't able to find anything decent in the Ultrawide format. Ended up buying a Ugreen Revodok and hiding it under the desk as a cheap compromise.

      • I see. Are you using this monitor with your setup?

I currently am using a caldigit dock which i was thinking to repurpose for this. But thought of checking if there is a single unit that does everything 😅

  • I used to crap on VA due to bad past expereiences until I got the first gen samsung g9.

Amazing quailty, no smearing AT ALL (a massive bunch of other issues with that monitor tho).

I wouldnt write off VA right away tbh. But idk how this monitor compares

For a moment I thought that was the OLED model. Nearly wet myself.

  • For best bang for buck im not sure why people are so against these types of panels. If you wanted the same size monitor in OLED you are looking at $1500

    • Black response times are bad to awful on most* VA panels, so they're a bit shit for gaming. They also tend to have black crush so despite the amazing contrast ratio they're not great for movies/tv either.

*Some are ok. I had an lg 32gk850g that had a VA with decent black response times. Trade off was washed out colours.

      • Large screens tend to be better with VA. Picture quality is lot better than IPS. 34 inches is pretty much at the large screen end.
There’s a reason people shit on IPS on tv and it’s evident as soon as you see the contrast and video quality difference.
Yes this is a high hz screen with a brand targeted to pure gaming but a lot of people will buy this as a general monitor and won’t worry about if it’s not the best to game on.

I ordered this the other week for 599 - 11% code (I was able to get refunded the difference including 11% off code). This is a really good price for what it is. It does have a couple quirks but I like it. Contrast and colours seem really good. Pretty good black uniformity too. Some slight oversaturation (especially reds I feel) otherwise you can use Win11's new Auto Color Management or graphic driver tools to clamp to sRGB. The OSD does have an sRGB preset but it looks terrible unfortunately, and you can only change RGB Gain in Game1/2/3 or Custom Colour presets. It does have some slight smearing noticeable only in the worst cases, but enjoying the ultrawide in games nonetheless. My 27" IPS became my secondary and I didn't want an IPS ultrawide because of glow and thought I'd try it out. The 1500R curve is okay and only just doable, I wouldn't want it any more curvy. It's one of the only VA 34" with HDMI 2.1 as well, meaning you can do 3440x1440 180hz at 10bit and imagine the port would be handy for new consoles. It has a Console Mode too with a few options. Don't hesitate to ask me anything :)

    • I can't edit my comment apparently, but after some testing - pixel overdrive seems to perform much better with Gsync/Freesync turned OFF, with hardly any ghosting/smearing (Only very short smear with G-SYNC ON anyway) Similar to other Dell monitors it uses a different set of overdrives. With a fixed 180Hz, the Super Fast setting is good, Extreme has some overshoot. Fixed 120hz - Extreme is usable and probably best, no overshoot.

    • Do you by any chance have a MacBook Pro and if so, how does the scaling look?

      • I do not, sorry

      • +2

i have a dell ultrasharp with same native resolution and macbook seems to work without issues. Hope that answers your question

  • +1

Does anyone know how this would compare to the Xiaomi Mi Curved 34" Monitor that was super popular on here a few years ago?

It converted me to the ultrawide side but I am a bit sick of its issues like the slow wake from sleep and inability to do PiP/PbP well.

    • I have that monitor, wonder if it's worth getting this.

    • I wonder about this too, althought they are both va panel

  • Can anyone comment about legibility of text on this screen?
