Great deal! Worth noting that Boost has full Telstra 3G/4G coverage (albeit with a speed limit of a measly 100mbps) unlike other MVNO's such as Aldi/Woolworths who use Telstra Wholesale (where coverage in general is limited to be similar to Optus/Voda).

    • Interestingly if you order a SIM from boost, the email receipt comes from the email address [email protected] . That made me wonder whether Telstra actually owned Boost, and perhaps was another brand for selling lower-priced Telstra-network prepaid SIMs (similar to Belong) - but from a quick Google looks like Boost are not owned by Telstra, they're an MNVO, albeit with full coverage.

Is this half price for buying the actual sim card only? the plan pricing remains the same?

    • Yes

  • +2

    Are subsequent recharges full price?

    • Yes

  • I'm on boost and I find mobile data pretty slow. When on the train home from Melbourne CBD to Clifton Hill, I can't even open Hotmail in my browser. When the network is congested the service is terrible imo

  • i think for sims the half price deals only cover $30 and $40

Next Wednesday at Coles you can pick up the $50 sim that has 32+23GB bonus data for $20 and you'll also get a bonus 11GB if you activate before 25th Feb'19.

      Source?

Just say I've read it as it was being printed, so obviously can't put up the info as the catalogue hasn't gone out for distribution yet.

  • If you port from Telstra you need a different SIM to the one included in the starter kits (as per https://boost.com.au/blog/2017/10/30/bring-number-telstra/) - how does this affect the credit included in these starter packs? Do you have to port to a non-Telstra service to be able to use the starter pack 'included' credit?

    • Are there the same issues for porting from Boost to Telstra?

        No

    For Cashrewards:

SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering.

This is so damn expensive and it gets to the Top Deal section; am stunned.

If $3 after cashback for 35GB data on full Telstra network is expensive i think we'd love you to share some better offers, seriously!

      • I concur. Most of the year I'm pretty content with Optus and Vodafone networks, and usually pay around $1/month. But around Christmas and early January with more travel & visiting family, some of whom live in areas which bad reception, I'm willing to increase the budget from ~$1/month to $3/month in order to use the Telstra network. So if you can do better than $3/month on the Telstra network, then please do share.

        • Do you port between providers month-to-month @nickj?

          Thanks!

  • When does the sim have to be activated by? I can't find the info in the T&Cs (other than that you have to recharge by 25 Feb to get the bonus data)

    • If you want the cashback, which you most probably do as it takes the cost down from $15 to $3 after cashback, then you need to activate within 30 days of ordering.

      • Oh sorry I meant for the sim to not expire - my plan doesn't finish for a few months so I was thinking of buying this in advance…

        • I bought a SIM the last time they ran this offer a week or two ago, and that SIM pack says "Expiry date: 19 may 2020". So I would presume you'd get similar, around 18 months until expiry.

But if you're not getting the cashback, maybe wait? E.g. $20 for the $50 pack at Coles that's hinted at above sounds reasonable, and it's only $5 more, and you don't have to faff about with cashbacks, and you get more data.

Obviously it depends on what networks are suitable for you, but for me personally I would not be buying inventory of this if I couldn't use the cashback (i.e. at $15). $5 or less for a starter pack is where I start to get interested in buying inventory for my stash, and if it's $1 or less it's usually an automatic buy. But I have the luxury of holding 12 months of inventory in my stash at any given moment, and getting good reception on all 3 networks, which means I can afford to be picky and wait for the best offers.

          • @nickj: Ahh definitely something to consider. Thank you!

  • If you have to recharge by 25 Feb 2019 for data rollover does that imply that you can delay activation to 28 days prior to that date ie 29 Jan 2019?
Boost fine print -" Bonus Data for new Boost Anytime Plus™ customers only who activate or swap to Boost Anytime Plus from 15 November 2018. First recharge by 25 February 2019".

    • You could, but you wouldn't get the cashback. Buy two, activate one now, port away and then port back again to activate the second sim in late Jan?

  • To clarify - Does this (boost, not cashrewards) pricing relate to the initial purchase / month only… or to subsequent recharges as well? If it’s only the first month, are people buying multiple sims?

    • It's first month only, and you have to activate within 30 days to get the cashback.

Interestingly though, it doesn't say you need to stay on the same recharge level to get the bonus data. So I'm hoping I can recharge at $20 per month and still get the 12gb bonus data (15gb total). If it works, it's a pretty good deal for 6 months.

  • Woolies is having the same deal

    • What is the woolworths deal? Cashreward is only applicable if buying from Boost website right?

  • It's still active until Monday now. Just put in my order.

  • Anyone have success with CashRewards?

My purchase didn’t track even though I used the CashRewards browser extension on PC. CashRewards said they’ve asked Boost to verify & I now have to wait 30-90 days.

The $30 SIM (which I bought) is no longer eligible for CashRewards. I think someone doesn’t want to pay.
