    What are the bargains?

Unfortunately most of the deals are not that great imo. I listed some deals that might be worth checking out, will add more when I can find the time.

Steam sales have been disappointing for some time

        • Agreed. When they instituted the refund policy, their deep discounts seem to have disappeared around the same time…

        • +3

Agreed, I get most of my games from Humble Bundle these days. Around $15ish you get two to three triple A titles and a bunch of indie games.

Steams sales have gone down hill every year.

@[Deactivated]: I miss the really good flash sales, the deep discount flash sales are why my library is 400+

        • For years now unfortunately

    hitman 2 not sale ..
they are only matching uplay prices. Origins and far cry 5 are as same prices as uplay

    • +2

I thought Hitman 2 only just released? If so, there is no way they'll put that on sale. I could be wrong though.

      • -2

when hitman came 2 years ago, they discounted after 2 weeks

        • -1

Not according to SteamDB. Price only dropped after 8 months.

          • -1

@Tacooo: your theory is rubbish. Have a look at shadow of tomb raider , how much has it changed priced?

            • -1

@D34thBringer: lol go ahead and neg me for bringing up a fact backed by stats on SteamDB.

    • +1

The game came out a week ago lad.

At Humble you can save a few dollars, they have Witcher 3 GoY Edition for $27.50 AUD Nier is a few bucks cheaper as well as AC Odyssey for $55.28

    • Good find, edited my post.

  • Good idea to also check on https://steamdb.info/ to ensure you're not getting too ripped off with the "Australia tax".

Damn thought Age of empires 2 was 75 cents

Just as a note: with the introduction of AUD pricing in the steam store, we are paying more than we would if prices were kept in USD. For example, XCOM 2 is 22.48AUD (16.32USD), as opposed to current US pricing at 14.99USD.

Highly recommend to install enhanced steam (browser add-on) to see the % difference in pricing, and to check isthereanydeal for any better deals on current games on sale (e.g., XCOM 2 collection is MUCH cheaper at wingamestore for 34.49AU as opposed to the 50.69AUD on steam)

Ugggghhhh, this is what I was worried about with the merge to AUD for Steam store purchases - the Australia tax.

Yes, to a degree, we do pay more but it also takes away conversion and (i assume) international transaction fees. I wish I had proper stats on it, but bank conversion rates were never that great. So I feel we are paying pretty similar, though yes, this is OzB and saving $1 here and there is the name of the game lol.

      • This is just wrong. So, so wrong.

Everyone should be paying the mastercard/visa rate, which is a good rate. Even a bank forex rate is not much more. The next worst option is Paypal for currency conversion. Now, lucky us, we have the worst option of all and it is being forced upon us - the pricing set by most developers on steam is WAY more than even using paypal to pay in USD (not that we can pay in USD anymore).

There will be exceptions as the game developers can manually set their prices instead of using the suggested (HUGE RIPOFF) conversion recommended by Steam (WTF were they thinking?!)

    • ….that my friend would be called regional pricing….

    • Can Royal Commission be called into looking at this?

      • I doubt it; just shop wherever is cheapest

    • We are always going to pay more than USA. What you should be comparing is the current AU price to the old AU price (as it was USD) Civ 4, for example, went from $89.95 USD to $89.95 AUD. Still higher than the $59.99USD price for USA but the switch to AUD made the game cheaper.

  • australian prices too.
