[QLD] iPhone XR 64GB for $1115 @ JR Duty Free Brisbane

iPhone XR is great value phone. Great for wide angle portraits, HDR videos with stereo speakers and some new colours. Right now 10% off at JR if you are flying out of the country I think.

"I think".. is this ex-GST price or inc? Because if it is Ex-GST, then it is not a deal considering you can get it anywhere ($1229 RRP inc) and claim TRS on it.

    • There's no mention of GST on their website at all. But on their checkout screen they mention the $900 threshold so I "assume" their prices are ex-GST.

      • I am flying soon. What's a $900 threshold?

I have a few stuff total over $1500 to claim TRS from few different retailers.

          https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/touris…

Bringing goods back into Australia for which you have already claimed a TRS refund
If you are aged 18 years or over, you can bring up to AUD 900 worth of goods into Australia duty-free, or AUD 450 if you are younger than 18. Families travelling together can pool this allowance (a couple with one child can bring in a total of AUD 900 + AUD 900 + AUD 450 = AUD 2250 worth of goods into Australia without paying duty or GST). This is called your passenger concession.

If the total value of the goods you are bringing into Australia that you purchased overseas or for which you have claimed a refund under TRS is greater than your passenger concession:

you must declare all of their goods
you will need to repay the GST refund back on the goods you claimed under the TRS
duty and GST will apply to all items purchased, not just goods over the limit of your passenger concession.
Penalties can apply if you don't declare that you have goods in excess of your passenger concession.

          • @try2bhelpful: That means if I bring back only a few goods worth < $900, I wouldn't have to repay. Is that it? :)

@cart00nist: That would be my take, but I haven't done duty free for a while; however, I think the kicker is if you claim TRS then you can only claim for goods under $900. If the goods are worth more than that then you pay the GST on the total amount, including anything you bring back you bought overseas.

              • @try2bhelpful: Yeah looks like it. I will be taking actual gifts >$2500 out but will be bring back only 2 items worth $500 total. So I am assuming I shall be alright. Lets see how it goes. :D

                • @cart00nist: best of luck. Will be interested to see how you get one. Have a good trip.

@cart00nist: You should be fine. Brought $2k worth of stuff overseas. Returned with a $400 item and thats it. No issue.

Though they may tell you you can only bring back $900 worth. Just tell them not everything is coming back.

      • If you follow the process into the order, it asks for flight details and where you pick up from. This is very good indication it is Ex-GST and pick up passing customs.
