The 128GB at 499 is also a good price! $100 cheaper than competitors

If one could get David Jones to price match this, and combine with amex 30 off 200 - good price

    • David Jones are really good at price matching real stores.

      • If you purchased two physical $200 gift cards in separate transactions, that would be essentially $340 after amex credit (for $400 in cards).

        This would bring the price down to $340 + 99 = $439.

If you had multiple cards, then you could probably get a 3rd $200 card and get better discount again.

        • You can’t pay with DJ gift cards if they price match a product. That’s their policy. Double check before doing so.

          • +1

            @ashftc: doesn't mention that… i'm about to try now

            https://www.davidjones.com/price-promise

will let you know how i go

            • @mshanann: The told me on an email when I was price matching Note 9 through head office. Goof luck mate. Hope you get it

              • @ashftc: I need to buy a Note 9. I was denied Price match by 3 OW stores.

Is there any workaround to get the Note 9 Price Matched?

                • @utsc: Just wait till tomorrow ;)

                  • @ashftc: I tried to Price Match Note 9 at OW the same day evening when the deal was posted in this forum. I was denied by OWfor various reasons including the initial seller was black listed, then I tried with another seller which was not blacklisted and OW told me it had to be AU stock.

              • +1

@ashftc: It's 'cause you can't pay with gift cards over the phone due to fraud. You can in store though

                Source: ex-DJs employee

                • @kerfuffle: Oh that’s why. Somehow store won’t price match but head office did and they want me to buy through them and get it delivered.

                  • @ashftc: How are head office supposed to deliver an iPad to you? They’re Click and Collect only. As for the store not price matching, which one was it? As long as you can prove they’re selling it for $399 and that the store you wanted to price match had stock, they should have price matched

          • @ashftc: Really? I do this all the time. I hope this isn't a new thing!

            • @stang65: Apparently I have been trying to convince them to accept Gift card but they are refusing me given policy excuse and I can't seem to find that either online. But they are adamant and will only accept Credit Card. No gift card or Paypal can be used as payment method.

              • +3

@ashftc: Just got back from David Jones Brisbane city. They price matched the $499 for 128gb wifi iPad gen 6 no issue and accepted gift cards.

Gift cards essentially worked out at 15% discount, bringing resolved iPad cost after Amex credits to $425. (I used two Amex cards to purchase 3 lots of gift cards in $200 bundles)

                $425 versus 599$ retail

        • @mshannon:

How and where did you purchased two physical $200 gift cards for essentially $340 after amex credit?

  • I’m assuming OW in Victoria won’t match this?

    • About to try in SA.

      • +2

        Done 👍

        • +1

Which store mate and did they ass the $9 delivery on top?

          • +1

@reslo: Yeah that delivery fee of $9 is a bit of a bummer.

          • @reslo: Apparently most stores except Prospect have stock.

They mentioned but either forgot or turned a blind eye to the freight charge.

    • +1

      At worst they'll match $399 + $9 shipping.

    • Why wouldn't they?? Reading https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be… - seems like they should do

    • +1

I just done one now. No issues for 128GB silver model.

    • OW price beat it for me NSW for the 128GB iPad ($499 at Bing Lee + $9 postage) x 95% = $482.60, took a phone call and about 3 minutes of my valuable time so that worked out well. OW price beat the competitor's price + postage by 5%, should work for you in Victoria with no probs, or anywhere else in Australia for that matter?

  • I recently got the 128gb cellular model from telstra for $34/mo for 2 years with 7Gb data. The deal is still there on telstra website. Talk to a customer rep to bump your plan for free upgrade to 7 😀.

    • +2

Eh, that's $816 vs $475. I guess it is cellular + monthly data, but doesn't seem worth it for me.

      • Well the 128gb + cellular mode is around 799 RRP. On top of that 7gb/mo i pay only 816 for 2 years.
Which is a good deal. But if u’re only after wifi model then the op’s deal is good. Cheers!

    • Where is this deal? Can't find it on the Telstra site

  • Does this work with 1st Gen Apple pencil?

    • +2

Yes - this is the 2018 model.

  • +1

Price matched 128gb Space Grey with Office Works… $475, store pick up.

Pretty happy with the price. I think this is the cheapest these have been.

  • Nice, just bought one for an xmas present, but store offers 7 day price match so gonna get a few bux back.

  • +4

Awesome thanks OP! Just bought one at officeworks no questions asked $379.05. Winner !

    • +1

      Please to hear.

    • Office works matched no questions asked

    • Got one for $379.05 at Officeworks Perth. Was waiting for Apple sale, but extremely unlikely they'd go that lo. So since Officeworks will probably update there price to match BingLee soon, I jumped on it now.

  • This is great, Texan Junior needs a 128GB model for school next year. Do we think there won't be a cheaper price for (official) Black Friday tomorrow?

    • +2

Buy now but don't let the Jr. open the box. If it's cheaper tomorrow return the one you bought today.

      • +1

Good point, will be for Xmas so no opening til then :)

  • OW have dropped their price to 399 now

    • +1

I just got in on time.

    • Still 427 on the website as far as I can tell.

      • My bad, please ignore/delete!

  • Thanks OP, just bought one for 379 from OW.. easy no issues

  • 32GB of storage?

    • Yeah, I bought one for mum who barely goes over 16gb. She uses is for netflix in bed.

    • Yes

  • Great price! Is 32 enough for school work? The school gives option either iPad or ChromeBook :(
I am worried iPad will be too small for typing. And ChromeBook is bulky / heavier and dying (pretty small market in Australia)

    • Should be good… My family member also using ipad and no complains

      • Yeah I guess these are good for kids and old people or non tech savy people

    • +2

      Teacher here:

Chromebook is less portable but has decent battery life and is great for when students need to use a word processor. iPad is cumbersome when used on an average student desk, unless a stand is bought/provided, and then to get the most out of word processing, you'll need to purchase Word on iOS and optimally have to purchase a touch keyboard (bluetooth) to add to the iPad. Lots of schools have moved to Google Docs, Gmail as well as Google Drive (unlimited storage) and use YouTube and other Google related programs.

iPads can also be used easily with gaming and other non-educational reasons that are very tempting for a learner.

While iPad has it's uses, I'd definitely suggest a Chromebook (if you can get a decent deal on one) for educational purposes.

      • +1

Thanks for the response. Yes, I lean toward proper laptop, plenty option such as Surface etc. The option from school is Acer ChromeBook and it is 1.4kg, it is massive for small kid.

        • My sons school, grade 5, proper laptop with Office365 ….what school would punish a kid in grade 5 with a tablet and get them to type stuff …with naplan going on-line you'd want them to develop keyboard skills.

tablets are for content consumption, laptops are for content creation.

  • bing lee just advised on chat they are all out of stock nationwide in the 128gb

    • Just get price matched with any retailer. Pretty all big names price match including Harvey Norman, Domayne, David Jones, etc.

      • Even if the store they are price matching are out of stock? Officeworks policy says it has to be in stock?

        • Sorry not sure about that. May vary

          • @ashftc: Just tried Officeworks over phone and they were happy to price match for me. Collecting from my local store tomorrow.

        • This is correct, I just got turned down in SA due to the 128G being out of stock.

          • @reslo: Try their central phone line rather than a store directly. They just did it for me and I pick up from my local store tomorrow. Got for $474.05

            • @Purley23: Just did, same response. They check the Bing Lee site for availability.

  • Can someone who is intending on opening their iPad purchase before Christmas confirm when we need to buy Applecare+ ? I've seen some reports that it is within 1 year of purchase and other times it's 60 days and I believe the period depends on the device i.e. laptops/iPhone are 30-60 days.

    https://checkcoverage.apple.com/

P.S. OfficeWorks price matched the 32GB iPad at my local store in NSW without hesitation at around 14:00 AEDT. I dare say they will adjust pricing soon so they don't have to rebate. I plan on giving it as an Christmas present to my boy and then down the track picking up a 1st gen pen to get more fun/education out of it. Can't have all the excitement in one go :)

  • Bing Lee are now out of stock of all 32G and 128G. Apparently no ETA on more stock, so this deal is over… for now.

  • +2

Got lucky and Officeworks price beat it for me (I think because the Bing Lee website is confusing and doesn't actually say sold out?). Almost got it cheaper because the guy got the price wrong but I was honest and told him it was $499.

    • Mum’s friend went to the same store and they priced beat it and even ordered one in for her because they were out of stock.

  • Liverpool store has gold in stock. Not sure how many or for how long

  • +1

Thanks for this! Managed to pick up one of few remaining 128GB's @ Officeworks Pitt St.

    • Good to know

  • +2

Just managed to get a 128GB Space Grey version from Officeworks over the phone, price matched with Bing Lee, $474.05 😊 😊

Pick up from the store 300m away from work tomorrow.

(PS. In my experience, I’ve always found an over the phone order the easiest/best way to get a price match with OW)

    • The girl that answered my call around 4pm said she couldn't add to cart so could not match. What time did you do it?

      • Around 4.30pm. Lady on the phone just asked me who they were price matching, I said Bing Lee at $499, she clicked a few keys and said no problem, she didn't mention sold out or delivery fee so neither did I! :-)

    • +1

Thank you very much, just got a 32GB Space Grey version price matched over the phone around 5:30 and have it in hand now. Going to have one very happy family member on Xmas morning!

  • I just got back from Officeworks where they price beat even though Bing Lee is sold out. They said I had to pay the $9 Bing Lee would have charged for shipping but with the extra $30 off I didn’t mind. So some Officeworks are still matching the deal.

    • My guy mentioned it then forgot! Looks like it depends on your luck of who you get.

  • +1

Hey guys, just got home from OW the time on my receipt says 4:46pm-est, i got a price match for $379.05 and the young guy checked Bing Lees website and still price matched it. He didn’t say anything to me about Bing Lee being sold out even though i knew it was sold out.

  • Yep no problem price matching at OW Pitt Street (Syd) just then around 6pm, plenty of stock of 32gb, but only space grey for 128gb. $379.05, they didn’t add shipping. Seems popular too, had 2 other people in the line price matching the same.

  • Good Guys Mile end had no issues giving my the 128G for $499. Helped I think by Bing Lees website no longer having a big button saying "Check availability". Didn't get stung for delivery either so I'm willing to forgo the few dollars saved trying to find an OW to match.

  • Hi Folks. Just picked one up from my local Officeworks. No problems with stock levels. She manually inputted the price and didn't even add P&H!

  • Failed, just tried my local officework 30 min ago, they dont want to pricematch as bing lee is sold out

  • I just phoned my local BingLee store. They didn't have any stock but were happy to take an order over the phone @ the price of $399. They are expecting stock next week. Not as good as OW, but still good!

    • People are still getting OW price match because Bing Lee website does not say "out of stock", just not allowing you to buy.

      • I tried at OW but because there was no Add to Basket button they said they could not confirm availability :(

  • +1

Just grabbed a 128Gb version from Officeworks Woolloongabba, price beat to $474.05 (last one in space grey)

  • Tried in store, and they saw Bing Lee had no stock. Wouldn't price match.

Tried calling, as soon as I said Bing Lee, they immediately said they were out of stock.

    • Oh touch luck mate

  • jesus im so bummed, i was planning to head in store when i woke up today, but they changed the price back up while i was sleeping :(
