    It was $18 last nite.

    • Where?

    • It looks like that was a price error that has been fixed.

$39 with a case is still a good deal.

Thanks for pointing that out, Mate. I have set an alarm for 11.55am so I can remember to change the cashback rate again.

No worries, thanks for the $34 Dot! It might make my google homes behave better.

I was about to question why anyone would want a 'case' for this, but now I see it's actually more of a cover, to change what it looks like.
(not to protect it while you carry it around)

    • +1

Yeah me too..initially I though perhaps to protect it from drink spillage or something… I mean why would I move it around all the time lol

If you get a battery case. I have one for G.home and it travels around inside & outside the house.

Case is what Amazon calls it, but I have changed the title to cover as that better describes it.

Just a heads up to people wanting to play local media. While Alexa is faster at home control than Google, and can play radio stations etc. The Amazon Echo Dot ect are not network players. They are not DLNA devices and cannot be cast to like the Google products can be. There is an Amazon App for IOS and Android that allows you to stream to the device, but no official way to stream your network stored music collection directly or via PC. There is one paid app that runs a small app on PC's that somewhat gets it working from that PC.

    • Don't see the point. I use squeezebox off nas. I don't see any integration with Alexa or Google home. I want a multilingual support for five languages I'm listening to. No systems is capable of playing song so atm no point getting a voice recognition gadget

      • You can play local media via Kodi, paid apps, some basic receiver(features depend on age - very limited playlist) control via Home Assistant etc, or Receivers with Alexa built in. They are trying to force their cloud system, which is not that great for people with lossless collections. With the Alexa's having audio out I was hoping for DLNA. At least with the Google Homes you can cast to them, but then stuck with the built in speaker. From memory you can get more extensive Kodi control with Shield, but have not spent any time on that.

All Google Homes, DLNA, and Kodi installs(Shield, Android box, PC's) are picked up by Home Assistant, which then gives me transport and volume control of them all via Google voice control from anywhere.

Alexa and Google Home claim to be multilingual.

  • OK Google do I need Alexa?

    • "No you don't because you already use me", says Google
