Enough, please. After the storm with Amazon, my cards get angry already :D

So if I already have a Win10 HTPC that can play games, stream, kodi, run emulators etc. is there any benefit at all in getting this?

    • +1

No not really, not to replace an existing PC.

      • OK thanks.. one benefit would be it's small form factor but would still have to have the HTPC for gaming anyway. The cloud gaming with Geforce Now doesn't work in Australia yet? Will it ever?

Shield has hardware H265 decoding which means 4K video will play effortlessly. Your PC can only do software decoding which is inefficient and needs a beefy CPU, and still may jump and skip.

      • How does a xbox one x compare?

        • Not an xbox person so i don't know much about them.

        • different OS but xbox one x is obviously more powerful, not sure if it can be a plex client as well as server. xbox one x can read blu-ray discs while shield cannot unless a disc reader is connected.

  • Does this have live tv tuner like the vodafone tv?

Nvidia Shield is the new Eneloop.

I wish it ran on Eneloops actually

  • Note with delivery to Melb metro, this is $168.25 - ships in 24 hours.
Probably better than Kogan which is $168 + delivery (free deliv with shipster) and ships in 1 - 2 weeks

    • Mine shipped from Kogan and arrived in Melb yesterday.

    • Mine also was shipped the next day and arrived today from Kogan.

      Replacing an MIbox 3.

Is this not just an expensive Chromecast that also supports games?

  • I’m reallyafter an Apple TV for Airplay. Is there anyway I can get Airplay running on this somehow?

    • I saw mention of Airplay in Kodi. I don't have any Apple devices - so I wouldn't know if it works, or how useful it is.

Set mine up last night as a Plex server, powerful little device but good grief Google needs to test its software. It refused to connect to my wifi, 10 other devices in the house have no issues. I had to use a cable first, others report this same issue so thankfully not me? Then the Google two factor screen doesn’t easily allow you to click OK once you type the code in, I had to Google how to do it. Don’t click down to get to Next, click right twice even iwhen your view is blocked with the pop up keyboard then blindly hit OK……obviously 🙄 once I got past this nightmare then back to Google search again to figure out how to setup Plex server, FYI you will need a web browser on Mac/Pc to access the Shield to add your video library’s . Once this was done it’s very quick for movies to start/stop and skip. Pretty impressed.

  • Well, controller version still available for $229
