Be careful, if you use this with a Playstation it will explode.

    • really?

    • What about Wii U?

Haha. It'll work like a regular HDD on any device.
What's interesting, is the plain black 8TB Seagate Hub has an archival HDD, but this one packs a much better gaming HDD. The Seagate Barracuda Pro 7200rpm (ST8000DM004).

      • not gonna work in a ps4 sadly

        • +2

Nah you can't shuck this HDD for use as an internal laptop or PS4 HDD. It uses a full size 7200rpm HDD. But it's an excellent external HDD for Xbox or PC. I use the 4TB Hub, and on the Xbox, the 2 extra USB ports function just like the native Xbox USB 3.0 ports. So you can plug any Xbox peripherals into them. (Wheel, Charging cable, TV Tuner etc etc) Very handy.

          • @Ge3ks: Just wanted to ask if it's USB powered..
Not really looking for one right now as I have a 2tb portable plugged into the X currently.. but have a feeling I will need one of these 4/6/8 in the next year or so.

The JB ad states clearly that it's just USB powered which is a nice bonus. If correct.

It also wont work at all

      • This drive is seriously not compatible with the PS4..

^Both those hard-drives you linked have Archival HDDs inside them. Good for mass storage, but not good for gaming.

The Xbox Game Drive has a much better HDD inside.

Are you sure? I didn't think they made them anymore. I have been after the 10TB which is a real bonus and has a Barracuda Pro in it. Amazon won't hold their local price still long enough for me to grab one. $378 for 2 weeks, then daily changes 440, 368, 440, Back to $404 on Friday. There is a Retailer on ebay at $404, so OK with 10% or better off. But was hoping for the better Amazon number with the 12% cashback. Whatever happens, it's bound to drop $50 shortly after I eventually grab one.

Edit: The research I did showed the Barracuda is in the 8TB but it uses twice the power of a 4TB, where as the 10TB is closer to the 4TB.

  • 7,200 rpm + 8TB HDD, should have a decent transfer rate.

Is it a fact that you will get a 7200rpm drive? First reddit post I googled showed the drive was an SMR. I'd say like other enclosures, it's going to be a lottery.

    • Everyone seems to have been getting Barracuda Pro's regardless of the xbox or standard black version. There seems to have been some earlier reports of just standard Barracudas for a while. What stopped me looking at the 8TB Hub externals was that the Barracuda Pro's have a very loud clicking noise, which is a worry on longevity as I am looking to remove the drives for a server. But at this price?? BH have the Black Hubs for USD$149 as well. The 10TB are more per TB but are guaranteed to get a Pro version and Helium filled(less power as well). But at this price??

What it does show is that the Australian Tax is well and truly alive, and not helped by the "Harvey Norman Tax". I feel defiled.

      • the libs love our asses

    • The Seagate Expansion 8TB seems to be even cheaper at USD 129.95. I have not got enough time for more research, but Ozbargainer's were getting Barracuda Pro's in these a year ago.

Hub Version tho? You need those extra USB ports on Xbox.

        • Not if ripping the drive out or using on PC.

BH have the 8TB Expansion for USD$129, AUD$180. They have not been collecting GST yet.

Their website seems to be under a lot of load this weekend.

      Edit AUD $213 Shipped
      2xdrive AUD $402 Shipped

  • Amazon AU (USA Stock) have the Expansion 8TB for $198.85, xbox or black hub for $231.21, all delivered. The hub works out cheaper than Newegg if you are buying multiple, or have already used the discount.

plus 10% Cashback via Cashrewards or Shopback.

$180 for the Expansion is getting tempting.

  • I bought two of these, one was faulty on delivery, you can't run them through a powered USB hub and the transfer rate is slow, then I bought a lacie and it's running great.
